Art…I always start with either nothing or something a simple shape or a boring image…all it takes for me to start making art is the “spark”. i get the sparks from a extra shape or line in a drawing or filter on a image in photoshop then from there my art Snowballs Into what you see now.

enjoy.

Family Portrait

Five generations of my Nikon cameras.

The story behind them is under the cut…

What can I say?  I’m ride or die for Nikon.

The D70s was my very first DSLR, bought back in 2006.  I ended up buying it from some shady ebay seller, splitting the payment across two different credit cards because it was the only way I could go digital.  I have a deep nostalgic attachment to this camera and the old days of shooting concerts with it.

The D200, I bought used about four years later.  And I spent the next eight years shooting the hell out of it.  This thing was my workhorse and has traveled all across the US and has gone abroad, too.  Still holds up well, after all that work, and before getting the D850, I used it as my backup body.

I bought the D500 new, which was leaps and bounds better than the old D200.  It’s become my dedicated wildlife/action camera.  It’s a crop sensor, but that gives it a little added reach on the long lenses and it’s great for shooting birds and wildlife at a distance.

And then the D850 is my primary body for landscape work and basically anything else that doesn’t require a super fast shooting rate (the D500 still tops out there with 10FPS).  It’s my first full-frame sensor and just a stunning camera all around.

The F100 is a 35mm film camera, which I break out when I’m feeling nostalgic for the good old days.  I use it sparingly, as film is expensive these days and developing even more.

I’m about to thin the herd and pass on the D70s to a friend, so they can expand their own photography.  And I’m considering sending the D200 off for an IR conversion.

I wanted to take a picture of them all together before I give the D70s away.  To me, this really captures the progression of my photography journey and it makes me smile.
