I feel like to understand Yamamoto as a character, you must first try to understand the way he views his girls. Thinking about this also makes me sick.
To add on to this, I feel that the idea that “Yamamoto didn’t say anything about the murder he thought Rui committed because he was looking out for her” is… not entirely right. It just doesn’t fit when you consider his lack of remorse and grief in doing something as terrible as what he did and involved Rui in doing. While I do think he holds a small bit of favoritism for her, I don’t believe he was looking out for her. He was looking out for himself, his dream.
He views Mystery Kiss as more of an item or a symbol of his goal, rather than a group of individuals. He wants this group to succeed but only on the most surface level. He cares about the whole and not the parts making it up to the point that he was willing to get criminals involved for the group to be able to debut on time without the real Yuki. This death that obviously affected Rui was nothing but a minor setback for Yamamoto because he never cared for these girls as individuals anyway.
Yano is one of the most bizarre characters I’ve ever seen and I’m living for it. He wears a full suit with a vest and tie, but also wears sneakers and rides a scooter. He’s a feared yakuza, but he also raps everything he says. What a fantastic antagonist.
So the voting for Crunchyroll Anime Awards are (still) open, and I must say how disappointed I am for this year AotY. Where is Fruit Basket? or Kobayashi san? Tokyo Revengers? Fumetsu no Anata e?
