like the thing about dean is that he is the product of extremesocial isolation, for his whole life. their dad moved them from place to place, never staying anywhere for more than a few months, and often for less time than that. the few people who were constants in their lives were hunters, and kept at a certain distance because of john’s paranoia. dean dropped out of high school and didn’t go to college, obviously, but he’s also never had a stable job, which is how a lot of adults who are past school age get most of their socialization. hunting ishis job, and he hunts alone or with family. the only people he really interacted with and built relationships long term with pre-canon were… sam and john. i mean no wonder he talks like a movie script. no wonder he wrecked things with cassie after a couple of weeks. no wonder he sold his soul to a demon for one more year with sam. he’s literally never like. really had relationships outside his family. that’s the big difference between him and sam: sam has.sam went to college, he lived in a stable community where he could practice having relationships with other people for four entire years. he developed some emotional regulation and social skills that dean never managed. but dean has for most of his life had only two types of relationships: his blood related family who were bound to him with unbreakable ties, and randos he would never see again. that’s gonna mess a guy up for sure
