Learning the age of the Earth or the distance to the stars or how life evolves… what difference does that make?

Well, part of it depends on how big a universe you’re willing to live in. Some of us like it small. That’s fine. Understandable. But I like it big. And when I take all of these into my heart and my mind, I’m uplifted by it. And when I have that feeling, I want to know that it’s real, that it’s not just something happening inside my own head! Because it matters what’s true, and our imagination is nothing compared with nature’s awesome reality.

Do you have the original picture from this? I’ve been looking for it everywhere.

Certainly!

Alice: Madness Returns Calendar Templates

Hello everyone!  I realize I’ve been absent for quite some time.  During that time, however, I’ve made myself a calendar - from AMR art, of course!  And I thought maybe some other people would enjoy it too.  Over the next few days, I’ll be posting the remaining images, as well as some supplementary stuff - what I did to label the images by month, and some of the actual calendar grid pages.

Basically, with a little bit of assembly, a photo editing program, a printer, and some paper, you’re all set to make a calendar.

To be clear: the way I created my calendar was very DIY.  I’ll list the kinds of paper I used and how I put it together (because I think it looks gorgeous, despite being held together by an old 3-ring binder), but this is by no means a definitive guide.

So, to the images!

All of these pictures are sized to fit 8.5 x 11" paper (including the black stripe on the bottom).  I did quite a bit of stretching and cropping to get these images to this size, so if you have paper with slightly different dimensions, I guarantee you can re-size the images on your computer without making them look warped.  You may notice that some pictures look sharper than others, and you would be right.  The top right picture with the cat, for instance, was simply low res to begin with.  I tried to find the best quality versions of each image, but in some cases that still wasn’t very impressive.  I did my best to sharpen them.  Someone with better photoshop skills than I might be able to tweak them some more.

The black bar at the bottom of each image is for the binding rings.  Like I said, my method wasn’t exactly high-tech; I used a 3-hole puncher at the bottom of each page.  Again, if this bothers you, you can stretch the picture without making it look too different.

I put the name of each month in the bottom center of the image, in the Supernatural font, on top of an image from the AMR art book.  An example:

I’ll post this image in a blank .png form in a following post.

Other fonts I can recommend arehere (“The Last Font I’m Wasting on You” and “Anywhere” are the ones I use for the tarot cards).

Obviously, I do not own any of these images.  I just put them in photoshop, edited them, and re-sized them.  The edited images are usually much more vibrant than the originals, and more balanced, so they stand on their own.  My favorite image is the ship in the bottle - my printer and paper went above and beyond my expectations, and the final product looks just like the image - for once.

More images to follow soon, as well as supplemental stuff and things!

…since a lot of people have been asking me about buying the deck.

I’ve also gotten a few messages suggesting cards: the Hatter as the Emperor, the Red Queen as the Empress, the Mock Turtle as the Hermit, and the Caterpillar as Justice.  These are definitely under consideration!  I’m trying to read a lot of sources before making decisions about the cards, because every tarot site has a slightly different meanings..  Thanks very much for the suggestions!

I’m going away for the week, and there is little to no internet where I’ll be.  So no cards for a while!  I’ll be back Sunday.

On another note, I'm shocked at the response this blog has gotten - we’ve almost hit 100 followers.  Thank you all for your interest and support!

What size cards do you like the best?  Just give me an estimate (about how tall, about how wide).  I’d like to get a consensus.

If you’re interested in getting specific, the width-to-height ratio of these cards is 1 to 1.334, or 3 to 4.

?

leelahel answered your question: Should I make Dinah the Star? Dinah Alices cat…

Yes! I am in love with this tarot. Are you planning on selling it when it is finished?

Thanks!  I’m not sure; I’ll have to see what can be done legally.  Personally I’d be happy if I could just charge for materials, ink, and shipping, and just break even, or make a few dollars profit.

When the end gets closer, I’ll start doing research about legalities.  Who knows, I might even contact the people who hold the copyrights or something.

So the bottom line is that yes, I’d love to.  And even if I don’t officially sell it, I’m sure I’ll be able to ship off a few copies without a problem.

Should I make Dinah the Star?

Dinah – Alice’s cat who, as it turns out, was not the source of the fire, and who in fact saved Alice’s life.

I’m thinking this could be interpreted as Dinah “showing her the way.”  The Star card for the most part is about giving hope and a glimpse into the future; inspiration.  I’m not sure if that’s too stretched, or if it could work.  If not, who or what else could be The Star?

I’m milking all I can from alice.wikia, google images, and The Art of Alice: Madness Returns, but that will only last so long, and at a certain point, I’ll have to… *sigh* start taking screenshots in the game to get the pictures I want.  For instance, there are no good, high-resolution images of a Memory that I’ve been able to find (specifically a house-shaped memory).  And I need a front-on shot of the fiery door where Alice has her revelations about the fire.

I’m surprised that this blog has a few followers already, so hi and thanks!

When all is said and done, I unfortunately won’t be able to manufacture and sell the deck (as it’s all copyrighted – I wish I could just charge for the materials and shipping, so people could have them but I wouldn’t be making profit off the copyrighted materials…), but I’ll probably post guides and where-to-buys of the best ways to print out the deck yourself.  I’ll have to do some research, as I’ve never attempted it, but I know you can buy card paper and suchlike.  But that’s a long way off…  Once I’ve got a good few cards done, possibly the entire Major Arcana, I’ll make download links for the full-resolution images.

[Flags used are @i-love-my-trans-body‘sgay man flag, and the sappho lesbian flag by lydiandragon, if I am correct?]

So ^O^ I saw these flags and thought, they would look absolutely stunning together! And I was correct!!!! Their color palettes compliment each other amazingly. For the first design, I broke up the two flags with a white stripe, symbolizing our similar experiences, solidarity, and friendship. The interlocked mars and venus symbols are colored the last stripe color of the flags. The second design has no white stripe, and instead, the symbols are colored white, mostly because it looked nice x)! I also decided to make the symbols hand drawn and a little wonky, to show the genuine compassion and care gay men and lesbians should have for each other.

You can use these designs for anything, but please make sure to credit the original flag creators as well! Also please tag me if you DO do anything with them, I would be so happy ^.^
