I imagine most people have seen examples of insects trapped in amber, like the mosquito from the movie Jurassic Park. This is a “bee-like” insect trapped in opal from Java, Indonesia. There was another ant or other insect found earlier this year from the same deposit. However, this is the first “bee-like” insect found, as far as I am aware…and I feel my greatest discovery of my career so far. I’m blessed to have been able to acquire this piece…it took a great deal of effort and being at the right place at the right time. Thanks to Arjuna Irsutti for the excellent photograph. I have already had a lab certify that it is 100% natural jelly opal with no treatments. Next stop is an entomologist to help me accurately identify the insect.
