Чернобыльский Спас/The Chernobyl Savior

Thought I might share two photos of copies of the Chernobyl Savior icon (one printed on canvas made in Moscow framed inkiot, the other a small print from Ukraine). A very unique orthodox icon in its own right, reflecting more modern, industrialised and globalised worries, and probably the first instance of regular people- nurses, firefighters, doctors, pilots, soldiers and volunteers- joining in the depiction of host of saints due to their sacrifice. Created by artist Vladimir Goretsky in cooperation with Yuri Andreev (CNPP engineer) and blessed in 2003. Of interest is the presence of Wormwood (star/angel), associated with tragedy:
“And the name of the star is called Wormwood:
and the third part of the waters became wormwood;
and many men died of the waters,
because they were made bitter.”
(The Book of Revelation 8:11)
and the The Partisan’s Tree, in the shape of both cross and tryzub, Ukrainian coat of arms, the tree serving as a hanging spot during WWII, now unfortunately collapsed and rotting away. Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant visible in the desolate background.

“The Nine Angelic Orders - A Prayer of St. Basil the Great:

O Existing One, Master, Lord God! Thou art praised by

Angels,

Archangels,

Thrones,

Dominions,

Principalities,

Authorities,

Powers,

and many-eyed Cherubim.

Rounded about Thee stand the Seraphim, one with six wings and the other with six wings. With two they cover their faces, with two they cover their feet, and with two they fly, crying to one another with unceasing voices and ever-resounding  praises.”

For those looking to find some books on Orthodoxy to read, just a reminder that archive.org has a massive collection of all kinds of books that are free and legal to access (including audio files and various videos). Some books require you to make a free account and ‘check’ the pdf out for a limited time. Others let you download them into EPUB or PDF format for unlimited access. All you need to do is put in some basic search terms like “The Orthodox Church”, “Orthodox Christianity”, “Orthodox Christian Theology”. I’d also recommend putting in specific book titles. E.g. they have copies of “The Orthodox Way”, “The Orthodox Church” “For the Life of the World” - which are all recommended by OCA.
