Pakui Hardware, Extrakorporal, The Seventh Continent, 16th Istanbul Biennial, 2019

The works of artist duo Pakui Hardware comprises a sculptural installation – a continuation of their project Extrakorporal – that focuses on organs grown and cultivated outside of human bodies, within the practices of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Certain animal species, such as sea urchins and jellyfish, themselves have this regenerative potential. The duo investigate these possibilities through new sculptures made of glass, artificial fur, textiles, leather, silicone, metal and plastics. Their interest lies not only in the regenerative potential of these practices, but also in the biocapitalism that profits from the medical augmentation and modification of the human form.

Pakui Hardware, Underbelly, solo show at MdbK Leipzig, Germany, 2019

Underbelly is an entirely new immersive installation inspired by and developed for the luminous spaces of MdBK Leipzig. In it, the viewer enters a sort of an oversized belly – soft and open for inspection. Transparent quasi-familiar objects are impressed in the fabric of the giant belly – they too resemble enlarged organisms. They voluntarily expose themselves for examination, opening their interiors for the viewer’s eye. Invasive medicine of the past is substituted here by (un)conscious and enthusiastic self exhibition and health’s data philanthropy. Our underbellies are now uncovered for everyone.

Exhibition is on view from August 10 to November 03, 2019.

THRIVERS is the first solo show of Pakui Hardware duo in Czech Republic. Conceived specially for Polansky gallery space, the installation presents a setting for unresolved figures that merge human limbs with diverse bodies of extremophiles. Thriving under harsh environmental conditions such as extreme cold, heat, acidity or radiation, extremophiles are massaging us for the upcoming future scenarios.

Materials: glass, leather, silicone, chia seeds, metal stands, led lamps, polyurethane filter foam, propeller ceiling ventilator
