DIY ideas that’ll impress your guests!

#1 Glowing Beverages

Did you know that tonic water naturally glows under black light? All you need to do is to install black lights around your home. Another decorative glowing trick is to break open a highlighter pen, put the tip inside a bowl of water to allow the highlighter ink to mix in. Then pour the water into any type of container you want to “light up”. DO NOT DRINK HIGHLIGHTER INK.

#2 Sterro Hack

If you don’t have a sound system to play dance tunes, simply make one by cutting a notch in a toilet paper roll and slipping your phone inside. Another idea is to drop your phone into a glass or bowl for the same effect, it’s an amazing way to amplify sound… not to mention it’s ultra clever.

#3 Chill Beverages With Berries

You can avoid diluting drinks and “pretty” them up by replacing ice cubes with frozen berries. It’s not only attractive and colorful, but will lend drinks an extra yummy flavor.

#4 DIY Potpourri

Unlike the synthetic store-bought stuff, this is completely natural and won’t make your place smell like a doctor’s office. Just throw some fruit into a slow cooker, and then add bay leaves cloves and cinnamon. What type of fruit? Lemons, apples, oranges will all work stellar!

#5 Trick Wine Opener

If you can’t find the corkscrew, but have an power drill… no problem! Also doesn’t uncorking wine this way look more suave than the other trick of beating the back of the bottle with the heel of your shoe?

#6 DIY Disco Lights

Transform your Xmas lights into a disco celebration by cutting a hole in the bottom of some Solos and placing them over the bulbs like lampshades!

#7 Preserve Good Scotch

Here’s a solution for when you’ve got a super expensive and special scotch tucked away at the bar, but a friend would like to have some. It would be awkward to say “no”, but you can polish the rim of his glass with a napkin and bit of scotch on it. The glass will smell of strong scotch, as you pour him a watered down version.

18th Birthday Party Ideas - My Personal Tips!

18th Birthday Party Ideas

If you’re thinking about “18th Birthday Party Ideas” then you’re in for a treat! I am a personal party planner and have been so for many years. I have planned hundreds of 18th birthdays and over the years have realized that there is a reason that some turn out good and others turn out bad! You see its hard to find 18th bday party ideas, especially on the internet. So I have put together this article to give you a brief taste of some of the best ideas that my clients choose.

So let’s get straight into: 18th birthday party ideas – my personal tips.

Have a huge 18th birthday party for family and friends.

Worldwide this is one of the most popular things to do on your 18th and can be the very best way to celebrate the start of adulthood. Regardless of whether or not you celebrate your birthday in a hired venue or in the comfort of your own home having a birthday party is a very easy and fun filled way to really enjoy your 18th.

To really spice up an ordinary 18th birthday party; try having a “themed party”. There is nothing more fun than seeing every one dressed up in your favourite theme, from an “angels and devils” theme to a “pimps and hoes” theme! At the end of the day a theme party brings character to your 18th.

Go to the best nightclub in your city / town.

Even if you go with just a hand full of friends “hitting the town for a night out” if only for your 18th will not only be worth it but immensely memorable. If you can’t bring the party home then take the party out with you! Make sure you wear the best clothes you have and become the centre of attention for that one night.

Go shopping!

More for the girls this one, but my word if you can afford it then do it! Nothing more marks an 18th than the latest Channel shoes or Armani watch (budget depending of course). If you can ask mummy or daddy to spoil you, at least once in your life, then this is the perfect shopping spree to do so, so don’t mess up your chances

Treat yourself to a relaxing spa and makeover.

Now you guys may think that this only applies to us girls but there you’d be wrong. Not only does a makeover apply to boys also but some boys would just as much benefit from them as girls do! A makeover is more than the pedicures and manicures, it’s a chance for you to enhance your child look and bring about a more adult appearance. Even if you just get a haircut this is definitely one of my personal favourites on what you should do for your 18th birthday.

Doing something is better than doing nothing!

It is always important to do something on your 18th. Too often I am approached by 18 year olds parents who plan their child’s 18th not as a surprise but as their child doesn’t want to do anything for it. This couldn’t be more of a mistake! It is better to do something that you fairly fond of like going cinema or bowling on your 18th then be stuck at home watching the a “re-run” of “pets do the funniest things”! The thing is after the birthday person always never regrets that they celebrated their 18th the way they did. This is no coincidence!

Now the thing to remember here is your turning 18 is a once in a lifetime experience so don’t waste it doing something you don’t enjoy. You should really try your best to make it unforgettable, with any budget.

8 Steps for Planning a Birthday Party

Planning a Birthday PartyKids aren’t the only ones who love birthday parties – adults love them,

too! But maybe you’ve never planned a party. Where do you start? Is it

ok to just blow up some balloons and hand out noisemakers? Do you need

to provide entertainment? Below you’ll find 8 simple steps that will

get you on your way to planning a fabulous birthday bash.

Budget

Into every party plan, a little budgeting must fall. Be realistic about

what you can spend and then stick to it. It’s also helpful to decide

what the most important factors are. Are you set on a big, extravagant

cake? Will you be hiring entertainment? Will you need lots of

decorations? Budget the largest chunk of change to whatever you feel

are the “must-haves” and then adjust the remainder of your budget

accordingly. Don’t forget to budget for your gift, as well.

Pick a Theme, Any Theme
When it comes to choosing a theme for an adult’s birthday party, pretty

much anything goes! From surprise parties or casino nights to Hollywood

glamour or “over the hill”, there are lots of themes you can make

uniquely your own. But remember – the party is in honor of someone

special, so stay away from anything that would be embarrassing or in

bad taste.

Who’s Who
Who will you invite to the birthday party? Just a few close friends?

Friends and co-workers? Family? Everyone the guest of honor has ever

known? Will it be “girls only” or “boys only”? Unless it’s a surprise

party, work with the guest of honor (and your budget) to try to

determine how many guests will be invited to the shindig.

The When & Where
Once you have a rough idea of how many people may be attending, you’ll

need to decide where to have the birthday party. Will your home be

large enough? Will you need to rent tables and chairs to accommodate

everyone? Or will you need to have the party at a restaurant or hall?

Decide what location will suit your needs, then set a date and time.

Send Invitations
Once you’ve determined a location, date and time, it’s time to send the

invitations. Try to send them 4-6 weeks ahead of time so that the

guests have plenty of time to purchase a gift and make travel and/or

childcare arrangements. The invitations can range from formal and

traditional to casual and fun. Many people even choose to simply print

their own – especially if they’re on a budget.

On the Menu
What kind of food will you serve? Whether you’re serving finger-type

foods or having the event catered, now is the time to plan what will be

served to eat. When planning drinks, be sure to have caffeine and

alcohol-free options available, too. This is also the time to select

what type of cake you’ll serve.

Fun, Fun, Fun
While some themes (like a casino night) will require you to have games

planned out, other themes may offer more flexibility. Many parties are

fine with just music and mingling, but it’s a good idea to have some

fun activities planned in case your guests need help getting in the

party mood. Activities such as charades and karaoke will usually liven

things up and get your guests loosened up.

Décor & More
No matter what theme you choose for the birthday party, you’ll need

decorations…a banner and streamers at the very least. Party supply

stores offer inexpensive decorations for a variety of party themes, so

it shouldn’t be difficult to find what you need. And besides the

decorations, you’ll want to make sure you have enough cups, plates,

napkins, eating utensils, etc. Stock up now so you’re not caught short

during the party!

With a little planning, even the most inexperienced host can pull off a

fun and fabulous birthday party that grownups will adore.
