(pun intended). as the night went on, things got really interesting… really fast.

a/n: hey y'all! back with another pete oneshot, but this time the reader is the daughter of none other than stephen strange! i thought this would be an interesting dynamic to insert the reader into, considering the events of spider-man: no way home. IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED NO WAY HOME, DO NOT READ THIS!!!!

… . .

You paced back and forth in front of your bed, with several different outfits laid out. It really shouldn’t be this hard, should it? I mean, it was just Pete. But that’s exactly it, you thought to yourself. IT’S PETE.

He randomly asked last week, after 6 months of being friends, if you wanted to go on a date with him. Since when did he have *those* kinds of feelings for you? It didn’t make any sense, but then again, a lot didn’t make sense about Peter.

Your life was already crazy enough being the daughter of one of the most powerful sorcerers ever. Especially one who used to be a doctor. He was very protective over you, even more so since Mom died. He couldn’t save her, so your protection was his only priority. So the fact that he said YES?

He must like this Parker guy. He acted like he knew Peter already, but swears that he doesn’t know him. You found their interactions with one another hilarious, since Peter constantly looked terrified and on edge when he was around Dad. I would be too if I was talking with one of the heroes who defeated Thanos. Peter accidentally called him ‘Stephen’ one time, and I thought Dad was going to choke him.

“Y/N! Are you ready yet?”

You snapped out of your thoughts when you heard your dad’s voice. There was no way Peter was here already, he’s twenty minutes early!

You paced around even faster, trying to decide between your red T-shirt and blue jeans, versus the blue long-sleeve dress. WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT! Ugh, whatever. Red t-shirt it is.

“Working on it!” You wiggled your hips into your dress, rushing to get ready. You mentally smacked yourself for getting distracted by your thoughts, struggling to put your black ballet flats on.

“Mr. Parker is here so hurry up!”

Mr. Parker? Really, Dad?

You slung a portal open quickly to your dad, who was in the Sanctum’s kitchen grabbing Peter a water and some money for your date.

“Dad, seriously? I’m working on it!” You gave him your toughest glare, knowing that it wouldn’t make a big effect.

He stared back at you, concerned. “Why are your cheeks so flushed? Are you sick?”

“What do you mean?”

Dad reached his hand foreward to feel your forehead, as if checking your temperature. You annoying obliged, blushing even harder knowing that he was oblivious as to why you were flushed.

“Daaaaad, stop.”

“I’m just checking, honey. Why are you so tense? Are you nervous? And I told you to stop making portals when you need to talk to me, we live in the same Sanctum.”

“I know, Dad. I’m fine. Just tell Pete to give me five minutes.”

He looked at you questionably, walking back out of the kitchen with Peter’s water in his hand. Rolling your eyes, you pulled your head back in from the portal and closed it. You didn’t use sorcery often, since your dad did most of the protecting, alongside Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme. Wong still made you practice though, making sure your skills didn’t diminish over time.

After finally getting ready, you walked downstairs to find Peter talking with Dad. You made eye contact and smiled softly at him, and he smiled back at you. This moment of eye contact made Dad turn his head and look at you with the same confused look as before. You ignored his gaze and made your way to Peter’s side. You smiled at him reassuringly, as he looked at your with noticeable worry in his facial expression.

“So Dad, we’’ll be back-”

“I’ll just stop you there, honey. I want Peter here to tell me what he has planned for the night.”

You sealed your lips, knowing it was for your own good to not mess up this moment for Peter. He became fidgeting and widened his eyes, before turning to look at you, and back at Dad; Dad of course was waiting impatiently for Peter’s response.

“Oh! Haha, soooo, we are going to dinner-”

“Where?”

“Um- there’s a nice place in Queens that we are going to, and then we are going for ice cream-”

“What time approximately?”

“UH- I assume around 7:30?” Peter said nervously.

Dad crossed his arms and lifted his eyebrows. “Sound a little less confident, why don’t ya?”

Peter straightened his posture and restated, “We will be getting ice cream at 7:30 and I will have her back to the Sanctum at 8:00… Sir.”

Dad smirked and uncrossed his arms. “Ah, there we go! Thanks, Pete. We already talked about how I expect you to take GREAT care of my baby girl, right?” He threw his arm around Peter’s shoulder and turned both of them to face you. You, of course, were completely horrified.

“Don’t tell me you forgot what we talked about, Parker?”

“OH NO, sir. I didn’t forget. 8:00 on the dot!” Peter said, scratching the inside of his palms with his fingernails and laughing sheepishly.

“Alrighty then Dad! We should get going before we’re late,” you said, shoving Peter out the door, blowing your dad a kiss. “Love you, bye!”

You stepped outside onto the sidewalk, with Peter standing right next to you. You turned to him and he looked at you with a huge goofy smile. “I’m sorry Pete, he’s a bit protective. And over the top. And dramatic. And-”

“It’s okay, Y/N. My Aunt May would’ve been the same way with me. Don’t worry about it. Are you ready?” He held out his arm for you to grab.

You blushed fiercely, never having stood that close to Pete before but you didn’t feel awkward about it. Something about it felt natural as you laced your arm through his to walk with him. It was comfortable. Stable. Like you had been doing it for years. That was always the feeling you got when you were around Peter; like you had known him longer than the 6 months you remember. Wayyyy longer.

… . .

NO WAY!! PETER!”

“What!! It didn’t really like it, and I used to do it all the time when I ate Aunt May’s food!”

“I can’t believe you,” you said, shoving Peter slightly while laughing so hard you can barely breathe.

“You would think that after only asking for no mushrooms that they would leave them out!”

“You expect too much of them! Besides, that waiter was soooo lost in your eyes while you ordered,” you said, walking towards the ice cream parlor.

“What?! No, she wasn’t. She was just being nice.” Peter opened the door for you to the parlor, and you walked into line.

“Oh, you are so oblivious.”

“To what?”

“The signals that girls give boys when they like them! The longing stares, 'accidental’ nudges, ya know.”

“No, I don’t know.”

You stared at him, waiting for him to say he was kidding but he was being completely serious. He stared are you curiously.

“Are you jealous, Y/N?”

You were taken back by the question at first, and quickly became defensive. “Jealous? Of what? The fact that the waiter OBVIOUSLY thought you were cute?”

“And you don’t think I’m cute?”

“I didn’t say that-”

“So you do think I’m cute?”

“What? No!! I’m just saying-”

Youuuuu think I’m cuuuuute.”

He is painfully adorable, but you can’t give in to him. You blush and turn away from him, punching him in the arm.

“Ow!” Peter said, as you giggled at his 'pain’.

You both ordered your ice cream, and sat down at a booth together to eat, immediately feeling full after finishing.

“Bluuuuugh. I’m so full,” you said, slumping your chin into your hand.

“You and me both,” Peter replied. “You ready to head back?”

“Yeah, what time is it?” you asked, realizing you had yet to check your phone since leaving the Sanctum.

Peter looked at his watch to check the time and his eyes widened in horror. “7:55 p.m.”

And you were 20 minutes away from the Sanctum.

… . .

You and Peter ran full speed down the sidewalk, hand in hand, trying to not let the ice cream make its encore performance. After 6 blocks of straight running, you finally hit a red light at a crosswalk.

You both stopped, huffing and puffing to catch your breath. You leaned against the lightpost, looking up into the sky. Peter followed your gaze and stared for a moment as well.

That was you and Peter’s first mistake. In the split second that you both were not paying attention, someone snatched your purse right from your hand, and took off down the opposing sidewalk, away from the Sanctum that was 4 blocks away.

“HEY!” You shouted, knocking Peter over while taking off towards the culprit. Peter noticed why you were running and immediately sprinted to catch up with you. The man in a black hoodie turned down an alleyway, and you stupidly followed him with Peter on your tail.

He had caught up with you to be running alongside you before shooting past you to grab the man.

“STOP! GIVE IT BACK TO HER!” Peter yelled, as he grabbed the man by the hoodie and threw him against a wall. You stood back and watched as Peter, who seemed like a completely normal high schooler, lifted a full grown man above his head by the neckline of his shirt.

“You really should watch who you snatch things from,” Peter said confidently. More confident than you’ve ever heard him say anything.

The man managed to wrangle free of his grasp, and pushed Peter before landing a punch to Peter’s gut. Peter recoiled, bending over, before fighting back faster than you could even follow. Every kick, punch, and trick he threw at him landed with perfect accuracy. He could basically predict what the man was going to try before he tried it.

Out from under Peter’s white dress shirt, shone red and blue vibrant fabric that had black lines all over it.

No.

There’s no way.

He turned to look at you, and said, “I’ve got this. Go back to the Sanctum.”

You stared at him, knowing this was a moment for you to help. You walked up to him and hit your wrists together, forming solid orange shields on your hands.

“I’m not going anywhere. Although,” you said, pulling down his collar to see the suit shining through, confirming your suspicions, “I’m sure if you need it, Spider-Man.”

Peter looked at your with a mix of 50 different emotions before refocusing on the problem at hand. And it had become even bigger problem, as four large men appeared from the shadows of the alley.

You and Peter stood side by side, while Peter tore off his shirt and pulled his mask down over his face. You conjured a weapon, glowing bright orange, hoping that the constant training from Wong would prove useful right now.

Both sides charged.

… . .

You grabbed your phone out from underneath the man’s leg, found your lost shoe and tried to flatten your now wild hair. You knew you looked a mess, but there was no time to fix it now. It was 8:02 and you were both dead meat.

Peter threw his clothes back on, grabbed you by the waist, and was about to thwick and web before you stopped him. He looked at you with confusion.

“Let me make this a lot faster and less strenuous on the stomach,” you said, opening a portal that was one block away from the Sanctum. However, right before you stepped through, you felt another portal open from behind you.

“Shit,” you whispered under your breath.

Behind you and Peter was your dad, standing in his full gear and cloak, with a look of pure anger.

“I felt like I was very clear with you, Parker.”

Dad started to walk towards Peter, as Peter backed up, but you jumped in between them.

“Dad, stop. It’s not his fault.”

“Oh, it’s not? Even though I gave him very simple instructions to follow? And-”

It was at the moment that he noticed how much of a mess you two looked.

“What on Ear- WHAT HAPPENED.”

“Mr. Strange-”

“It’s DOCTOR, and I DON’T want to hear it from you.”Dad said, seething each word through his teeth.

Peter quickly kept his mouth shut, and laced his fingers together.

“Look behind you Dad.”

He turned around, observing the five men splayed out in the alleyway, covered in linger orange sparks and spiderwebs. He paced around the men, performing a memory wipe spell on them, as you explained what happened.

“Peter saved me.”

“It seems as though it was not just him. You also protected yourself. You know you are not supposed to be performing spells outside the Sanctum yet.”

“I know Dad, bu-”

“Let me finish. This was a special circumstance and I realize that. I am very proud of you for using your training from Wong to protect yourself, but you need to be careful in New York at night. We’ve had this conversation, and you are still in trouble.”

“I know, Dad. But please, don’t punish-”

“Peter. Thank you for protecting my daughter. I took your ability to take care of her for granted and I owe you a debt for keeping her safe tonight. Also, nice webbing. Do you make it yourself?”

Peter was stunned. Not only did you now know he was theSpider-Man, but Dad figured it out quicker than you did.

“Uhh-um-uh yes, yes sir. I do.”

Dad finally cracked a smile and patted Peter on the back. “Again, son. Thank you. You are welcome to the Sanctum any time, Pete. Darling?”

You walked past Peter, brushing your hand up against his and feeling the slightest bit of warmth from it. It made the hairs on your arm stand up in a good way. You walked through the portal with Dad following.

Waving goodbye, you realized how many emotions must be going through his head. I mean, you could barely process your own right now.

Dad closed the portal, and turned to you.

“You-”

“I know, Dad. I’m sorry. I’ll get cleaned up and head to bed,” you said, knowing that there would be punishment awaiting you in the morning. “I love you, Dad.”

“I love you too darling. And, we’ll get your another dress. It seems as though red and blue might also be your colors.”
