part one

You pulled your coat tighter around your body as you trailed behind your parents at a snail’s pace, reluctant to be here. You hadn’t gone with your mom and dad to the church service because you felt that it would have been inappropriate under previous circumstances. However, your mom and dad had convinced you to go to the churchyard with them.

That was where you saw him, his cheeks were red from the chilling wind and there were tear streaks on his cheeks. You guessed that Peter had been out here for a while. You bit your lip as you watched him with his Aunt, and you longed to share your condolences with Peter but he wouldn’t want to hear it from you.

“I think you should go and say something, Y/N,” your mom nudged her arm against yours and you glanced at her with a sigh.

“We’re not friends anymore, mom, come on. Let’s go,” you glanced at Peter one more time before you turned and walked away.

It felt like you were walking away from Peter Parker forever, but that was what you wanted wasn’t it? You once told Peter that you never wanted to see him or Spider-Man ever again.

10 Years Later…

You fidgeted with your red floor length dress as you walked into the huge roof top bar where the Hardy’s were holding their charity function.

“Right, we put in an appearance to be polite and then we’re out of here,” your dad groaned as he rubbed his temples.

You rolled your eyes, your parents thought that the Hardy’s were snobby and entitled but you liked them well enough, especially Felicia. Speaking of Felicia, the beautiful blonde woman came sauntering towards you in one of her usual slinky black dresses and diamonds around her neck.

“Y/N!” she grinned as she greeted you with a flute of sparkling pink champagne, which was very on-brand of her, “how are you?” you smiled as you took the champagne.

“I’m good thank you, how are you?”

She shrugged as you walked to the balcony which had an amazing view of the city below, “these parties are exhausting but it’s for a good cause so I can cope with them,” she grinned as she took a sip of her champagne.

You laughed as you leaned your hip against the balcony railing, you wouldn’t mind having a huge party nearly every weekend, “you always say that, but out of everyone you always seem to have the best time.”

Felicia smirked at your words, “true, at least I didn’t have to organise it this time, Jameson from The Daily Bugle organised it, he’s got one of his photographers to document it. In fact, here’s Jameson’s photographer now.”

Your mouth went dry as you stared at the tall handsome man who was making his way outside, he wore that black suit so well, like he was made for it. With his artfully tousled hair and his bright brown eyes, he looked like an absolute dream. Over the past ten years he had only seemed to grow more handsome.

Felicia smirked at him as he walked closer to the pair of you and she gestured between you and Peter, “Parker, this is…” she trailed off when she noticed Peter staring at you with polite shock etched on his face.

“Y/N.”

“Hi, Peter,” you smiled as you took a huge gulp of your champagne.

“You guys know each other?” Felicia asked as she looked between the two of you and raised an eyebrow.

Peter nodded, running a hand through his hair, “we went to high school together.”

“Well, well,” Felicia smirked, “I’ll leave you two to catch up, I’m gonna go and see where Flash has got to,” she waved at the both of you before she walked back into the party.

Peter smiled at you, “hey.”

“Hi,” you flushed, the atmosphere suddenly feeling very tense.

“Look, Y/N,” he began with a sigh and you glanced at the gorgeous man who was biting his lip and looking very guilty. You knew at once what he was going to say.

“Peter, don’t you dare.”

Peter looked at you with wide, shocked eyes, “what?”

“Are you about to apologise?”

“Well, yeah,” Peter chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.

You shook your head as you placed your hand on his arm, “you don’t have to apologise.”

The man frowned, “but I hurt you.”

He had hurt you, you weren’t about to disagree with that but you deemed it time to put the past behind you, “you did, but Peter, we were kids and I handled it the wrong way, a knee-jerk reaction I guess. I know it’s been a long time but please, can we start again?”

Peter grinned, looking very relieved as he tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear, “of course, Y/N. How have you been?”

Over Peter’s short break from work you learned that he went to college in the city – where he met Felicia – and he’d gone on to work as a photographer for The Daily Bugle. It seemed like the perfect job for him, in high school he was hardly seen without a camera. In turn, he learned that you had been living in the South of France before recently moving back to the city because you missed your family. It felt great to have Peter back in your life and you had the best time catching up with him but something gnawed at your conscience.

“Peter, I’m so sorry about what happened to Gwen,” you smiled sadly as you took a sip of your champagne.

Peter nodded as he raked a hand through his hair and he looked up at you with those big brown eyes, “I saw your folks at the funeral.”

The guilt in your heart only seemed to increase, “I came to the churchyard but I didn’t let you see me, that’s why I didn’t come to the funeral because I didn’t want to upset you by being there.”

Peter shook his head, “it would have been good to see you, Y/N.”

“Parker!” a shout came from inside of the bar, interrupting the conversation between you and Peter.

“Fuck! That’s my cue, I should go. I’ll see you later, Y/N,” he pressed a fleeting kiss to your cheek before he ran into the party to appease his boss.

You walked into the bar and met Felicia with a grin and she wrapped an arm around your shoulders, “y’know, you and Peter would make a pretty cute couple,” you scoffed at your friend’s words but you couldn’t stop your cheeks from heating up.

At the end of the night, you said goodbye to Felicia, promising that you’d meet up with her again soon, and you walked over to where Peter was sitting at an empty table, going through his photographs of the night. You didn’t notice his disgruntled expression until you sat opposite him.

“Hey, that isn’t the face of an award winning photographer,” you laughed.

Peter looked up at you with a dead pan look, “ha, ha. That was so funny I forgot to laugh,” he sighed, “I’m gonna have to hail a cab, I’ve missed my last fucking train.”

Your eyes bugged out, was he crazy? “you can’t! A cab is gonna cost the money you made tonight.”

Peter rolled his eyes with the ghost of a smirk on his lips, “well, I guess that I could swing home.”

That was an even worse idea, “have you been drinking?” you quirked an eyebrow and folded your arms. Peter nodded with a sheepish look on his face, “yeah, you’re not swinging home,” you hesitated as you came up with an idea, though it might have been the worst idea you’d had all night, “come on, you can stay the night at my place.”

Peter’s eyes widened as he began to stutter and stammer, you were sure that he was going to refuse but his reply surprised you, “are you sure?” he asked and you ruffled his hair, it felt soft beneath your fingertips.

“Positive, come on.”

Butterflies swarmed in your stomach as you set up the spare bed, making sure that Peter would be as comfortable as possible. It was strange, before tonight you thought that you’d never see Peter Parker again and now he was sleeping in your spare bed. With a nervous smile, you turned back to Peter and gestured at the set of drawers.

“There should be some clothes in there that should fit.”

“Thanks, Y/N.”

“You’re welcome, let me know if you need anything,” you smiled and Peter nodded, his brown eyes sparkling.

“Night, Y/N.”

“Goodnight, Pete,” you grinned as you got yourself off to bed.

After a good night’s rest, you decided to make your favourite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes with maple syrup and rashers of bacon. Just as you were serving up the pancakes, Peter came padding into the kitchen, his hair sticking up in different directions and he was bleary eyed, he looked adorable.

“Morning, Pete, did you sleep alright?” you smiled as you made a pot of coffee.

Peter shot you a sleepy smile that made you flush, “I had an amazing sleep, thank you, your spare bed is so comfortable. Thank you for letting me stay.”

“No problem, want some breakfast?” you smiled, placing a plate of pancakes and maple syrup on the table and he groaned.

“They look so good.”

“Dig in,” you pushed the plate towards him and he shot you a grateful smile, there was a comfortable silence as you both ate your breakfast and drank your coffee.

Peter broke the silence about ten minutes later, “you know we should go and get dinner together sometime.”

You felt your cheeks heat up and you had to tell yourself that he wasn’t asking you out, it was just going to be you two grabbing some food together. You were not about to get your hopes up and make the same mistake as you did in high school, “sure thing.”

Peter shot you a winning smile as he stood up from the kitchen table with his empty plate, placing it in the sink, “thank you for breakfast,” he was so close to you that you could see the syrup shining on his lips and your stomach did somersaults.

“Sure,” you trailed off when his warm hand cupped your cheek and you wanted to lean into it but instead you looked up at him, blinking rapidly, “what are you doing?” you murmured.

“Well, I was thinking of kissing you.”

You swallowed and licked your lips, noticing his eyes following the movement of your tongue, you felt like a love struck teenager all over again, “do you really think that’s a good idea, regarding our previous history?” you asked and he smiled, his thumb rubbing along your jaw.

“Things are different now.”

You knew he was right, things were different and you wanted to kiss him, really you did but you were still reluctant, “what if I don’t want you to kiss me?”

Immediately he let his hand drop from your cheek and he took a step back, “if you don’t want me to kiss you, then I won’t Y/N, of course I won’t,” he smiled.

You missed his touch and his warmth at once and you bit your lip as you looked at him, weighing up all the pros and cons in your head, “oh, what the hell,” you sighed, wrapping your arms around his neck, delving your fingers into his hair.

Peter leaned down to kiss you and you sighed against his lips as you tasted the sticky maple syrup and your hands came to rest on his chest. This could turn out to be the worst mistake that you’d ever make but as Peter deepened the kiss, you were surprised to find that you just didn’t care. All you could focus on was Peter’s lips against yours.

Chapter Four - Welcome to new, New York

Your first few weeks in the new, New York was pretty uneventful, you had yet to find yourself a job, you didn’t want any old shitty job, you wanted to be happy in your work. And, plus, you could afford to wait for a job that you’d actually like. You’d recently had an interview with a local newspaper called, ‘The Daily Bugle,’ to be one of their writers. The guy in charge, J. Jonah Jameson was kind of a crank but he didn’t ask too many questions, thankfully.

What would you have said if he had questioned you anyway? You couldn’t exactly say, ‘hey buddy, don’t mind me, I think I just zipped in from another universe,’ that was one sure way to get yourself locked up in the psych ward.

It was too late for you to enrol in university but you’d started going to night classes for criminal psychology, which had been your major when you lived in the old New York. You’d made some new friends who felt like family already, in such a short amount of time and you’d never had that before.

On a less positive note, you hadn’t seen Peter since he helped you move into your apartment, he hadn’t text or called, and to be honest, you didn’t want to bother him.

You shivered in the cold wind as you walked down the street, you should have put a jacket on but it really would have ruined your outfit. Betty was standing outside the bar, smoking a cigarette, and you rolled your eyes with a smile. Ever since you met her she was always saying that she was going to quit. That seemed to go out of the window every time she drank.

“Hey, Y/N!” Betty grinned as you walked up to her, “you look cute!” she pulled you into a hug, smelling like cigarette smoke and that mint gum she was always chewing.

“Thank you! You do too,” you smiled at her before turning your attention to the bar behind her, “so this is a dive bar, huh?” you asked with a raised eyebrow, you didn’t have to go into a dive bar to know that it wasn’t your scene.

Betty nodded, her eyes widening, “you’ve never been to a dive bar before?” when you shook your head she gasped dramatically, “so, let me get this straight, you’ve never been to a bar with a disgusting sticky floor and spent all night playing pool and drinking shit beer?”

“Yeah, I’ve definitely never been to one,” you fought hard to supress your shudder but you were unsuccessful.

Betty laughed at the expression on your face as she put out her cigarette, “well, sweetie, I’m afraid being friends with me is going to change that,” she wrapped an arm around your shoulders and steered you into the bar.

Betty was right, the floor was horribly sticky and the music was loud enough to shake the walls. But, that wasn’t what drew your attention, what did draw your attention was the handsome boy with fluffy brown hair nursing a pint of beer with a lost look in his puppy dog brown eyes. He looked so sad.

“Peter?” you called out as you walked up to him and he looked up with a raised brow, “Peter hey,” you smiled and gave him a little wave.

Peter gave you a polite nod as he took a sip of his beer, “Y/N, how are you?” he asked with the ghost of a smile on his face.

“I’m good, how are you?” you asked, twisting the ring on your finger, something you did when you were feeling nervous. You had been imagining what it would be like to see him again, you just didn’t know it would be this nerve wracking.

“I’m good.”

“Y/N, how good to see you again.” Felicia Hardy sneered as she slipped in the seat next to Peter and you had this nagging feeling that you were intruding.

You looked between her and Peter, he looked somewhat uncomfortable as the beautiful woman wrapped an arm around his bicep. Her long red nails tapped against Peter’s skin as she smirked at you.

“I’ll see you later, Peter,” you sighed and turned back to Betty without waiting for a reply.

“I saw that longing look, Y/N and I wouldn’t go there if I were you, I went to high school with Peter and he hasn’t dated anyone since Gwen.”

“Who’s Gwen?” you asked, waving at Flash who’d already set the pool table up.

“His girlfriend, she died a few years ago and Peter blames himself, though I don’t know why. They were disgustingly in love, they definitely would have married young and have had five kids or something. But, he hasn’t dated anyone since she died so I wouldn’t waste your time unless you want your heart broken.”

Your heart hurt on Peter’s behalf, you had no idea that he had suffered so much at such a young age. You glanced back at Peter to find that Felicia quite literally had her claws into him. They must have a solely physical arrangement.

“Why the long face, Y/N? It’s Friday night,” Flash chuckled as he held out a pool cue and you took it with a smile.

Before you could reply, Betty beat you to it, “we just saw Peter Parker.”

Flash nodded as he leaned across the pool table to take his first shot, “Parker’s a good guy.”

Betty sighed and bumped her arm against yours, “she’s got a crush on him.”

Flash’s eyes flickered over to you so fast that you were kind of embarrassed, “yeah, I wouldn’t go there if I were you.”

“Yeah I told her.”

“I wish you would stop talking about me as if I’m not here,” you sighed, “and I do not have a crush on him!” you protested, rolling your eyes at Betty’s disbelieving look, “I don’t!”

You tried to have a good night with your friends and you did for the most part. However, the talk of Gwen and Peter had put a damper on things, you couldn’t believe how much he’d been through, losing someone so important to him. You decided to leave a little earlier than planned, rejecting your friend’s offers to come with you, you still wanted them to have a good night. You knew that Betty was going to end up in bed with Flash, even though she’d said a million times that she wouldn’t go there again.

You hadn’t drunk all that much so you put your warm pyjamas on, got yourself a hot chocolate and sat out on your balcony with a blanket to watch New York’s nightlife. You were out on the balcony for twenty minutes before a figure in red and blue zipped across the skyline. Your heart soared and you smiled as the hero came to land on your balcony.

“Hey, Spidey,” you grinned as you took a sip of your hot chocolate.

“It’s, Y/N right?” his voice was muffled by his mask but you could still hear the smile in his voice.

You laughed, “yes, do you remember the names of all the women you save?”

“The pretty ones certainly make a lasting impression,” you flushed at his words, “shit, I’m sorry that was a real dick thing to say.

You shrugged and shook your head, “it’s okay. I realise that I never thanked you for saving my life.”

“You don’t need to thank me,” Spider-Man waved away your thanks.

“I do, I’d be dead if it wasn’t for you, so thank you,” you smiled.

“You’re welcome,” he nodded before he fiddled with his fingers, “so um, how are you feeling?”

You smiled, it was so sweet that he seemed to care, “much better, though I do have a wicked scar so I certainly won’t be wearing a bathing suit for a while. Thank you for asking though,” you hesitated as you looked up at the masked hero, “what are you doing here, Spider-Man?” you were merely curious.

“I was just in the neighbourhood but I probably should go,” he glanced over his shoulder.

It was a strange sensation but you didn’t want to see him go, “wait! I didn’t mean it like that, you can stay for a while.”

“I know, I know, don’t worry but I really do have to go. I’ll see you around, Y/N,” he zipped away on his webs before you could return his farewell. You were left staring after the superhero with a frown on your face.

——————————-

Monday morning came far too quickly for Peter Parker, he could hardly keep his eyes open as he walked into the elevator, draining half of his coffee in one. He had an assignment to finish for the newspaper last night so he worked quite late into the night and he’d done a round of fighting crime. He just wanted to go back to bed and sleep for about five years.

“Oh hold the door!” he heard a woman call out as the elevator doors began to close and he pressed the button to keep them open.

The woman ran into the elevator and on further inspection, Peter realised that it was Y/N in formal attire. What was she doing here? Y/N looked up at him with a grin, “thank you so much…” she trailed off “Peter, hey!” she laughed nervously, “I promise I’m not following you.”

Peter smirked, “dang it, I was so hoping,” he smiled and Y/N laughed, looking more relaxed, “what are you doing here if you don’t mind me asking?”

“It’s my first day, I’m really excited,” she looked so happy, that Peter had to smile.

“Great,” he muttered.

“What did you say?” Y/N looked up at him with a frown, she looked so pretty when she did that, somehow.

“Nothing, nothing,” he shook his head with a sigh. He’d done a good job of staying away from her up until a week ago when he decided to drop her a visit as Spider-Man, and now they were going to be working in the same place. Would he never escape her? He didn’t want anyone else to get hurt.

As they got up into the office, Jameson popped his head out of his own office and nodded at Y/N, “Y/L/N, Parker, you’re on babysittin’ duty today,” he nodded over at Y/N who scoffed but Jameson didn’t seem to hear it as he retreated back into his office.

“What a lovely man,” Y/N laughed as she bit her lip and glanced at Peter, “I’m sorry that you have to be lumbered with me.”

Peter shrugged, he didn’t mind, “it’s cool, just uh grab a desk I guess. Jameson give you an assignment?” he asked, raking a hand through his hair.

Y/N nodded with a smile, “yeah, I won’t need to bother you for anything, Peter,” Peter’s chest clenched with guilt at her words and he was about to apologise before Y/N walked behind his desk and gasped, “did you take those photographs?”

Peter followed her gaze and smiled as he looked down at the polaroid’s of Spider-Man that were scattered across his desk, “uh yeah, I did.”

“They’re really good, Peter,” Y/N smiled, “I met him again, the other week,” she nodded at the photographs.

“Oh yeah?” Peter asked casually, “what did you think of him?”

“I think he’s great, a real hero,” Y/N grinned at him as she walked over to a free desk, and Peter couldn’t help but feel smug.

A couple of hours into the day, Peter glanced up when someone walked into the office and he saw with the upmost surprise that it was Aunt May and she was carrying a brown paper bag. Peter stood up from his desk and walked around to meet his Aunt, “what are you doing here?” he asked, giving her a hug.

“You forgot your lunch sweetheart,” she smiled and placed the bag on his desk.

Peter laughed, “what would I do without you?”

“Oh you’d die of hunger,” she laughed and glanced around the room, her eyes landing on Y/N, “hello, Y/N!”

Y/N beamed as she stood up, “hi, Mrs Parker, it’s good to see you.”

“It’s good to see you too darling,” she grinned before she glanced between Peter and Y/N, Peter could almost see the cogs turning in her head, “would you like to come for dinner at the weekend, Y/N?”

Y/N grinned at the same time as Peter sighed, he loved his Aunt so much but he wished that she wouldn’t meddle, Y/N’s smile fell slightly as she glanced at Peter before looking at Aunt May, “I’m sorry Mrs Parker, I’ve got plans this weekend.”

“Oh that’s a shame, maybe another time then.”

“Yeah, maybe,” she forced a smile as she sat back down in her desk chair.

As soon as Aunt May laughed, Eddie Brock snickered over at Peter, “bro, you’re just so adorable with your Aunt bringing you a packed lunch and all.”

Peter usually ignored Eddie but today he glared at him, “or maybe I’ve just got someone who cares about me, though I wouldn’t expect you to know what that’s like,” he replied savagely before he glanced over at Y/N who seemed determined not to look at him.

Chapter Two - Across The Universe

You woke up on that sunny Tuesday morning with apprehension in your stomach, and for a second, you couldn’t understand or remember why you were feeling this way. As soon as you remembered, a smile broke out on your face, the feeling of apprehension turning to glee. The feeling of glee soon turned to worry as you realised that you didn’t know the code to your parents safe but you were sure that you’d figure it out.

You went downstairs for breakfast and your parents hardly glanced up at you as you made some toast, “not working today then, Y/N?” your dad asked and you rolled your eyes.

You’d barely had a day off all week, you were sure that you warranted a day off, “no, I’m today and tomorrow,” you said as you slathered some butter on your toast. You were never going back to that shitty little job.

“What time are you guys setting off?” you asked, they were going on their annual holiday break today.

“We’re leaving here at half three, Sam is staying with his friends while we’re gone,” your mom replied and you nodded, feeling an ache in your heart. You were going to miss your baby brother so much. But, you had to go.

Later on, you were quietly packing your things and you decided to leave a message for Peter, knowing that you would never speak to him again hurt too much. With a sigh, you fogged up the mirror and wrote a message, “hey, Peter. I’m just letting you know that it’s today I’m leaving, so I guess this is goodbye,” the message was a bit more emo than you had intended it to be.

At half three, like clockwork, your parents knocked on your door and opened it a sliver, “we’re going to the airport, we’ll drop Sam at his friend’s on the way.”

You nodded, feeling surprisingly unaffected even though this was probably the last time that you’d see them, if everything went according to plan, “have a good time.”

All of a sudden, the door burst open and Sam came running in to give you a tight hug, “bye, sis!”

You smiled as you kissed the top of his head, it felt like you were betraying him, you’d make him understand one day, “bye, Sammie, I love you, you know that right?”

Sam pulled away from you and gave you a weird look, “I know, I love you too but we’ll see each other in two weeks, won’t we?”

You forced a smile as you nodded, trying to ignore the pain in your chest, “yeah, see you in two weeks kiddo.”

After your parents had been gone for about an hour you spent some time trying to figure out the code to your mom and dad’s safe. They had too much money than they knew what to do with, and you were about to rectify it. Finally, you figured out the code, it was Sam’s birthday. Of course the code was Sam’s birthday, you wondered why your parents loved him more than they loved you. Maybe, it was because they’d adopted Sam, they’d chosen him whereas, they had got stuck with you.

Just as you had expected, there were stacks and stacks of cash in there, you knew that they had cash stashed away but you didn’t realise they had this much. You took enough money to keep you going for a little while, well until you got a job anyway. As you went back to your room, you spied Peter’s message on your bathroom mirror and your heart sank.

“no, please Y/N! Don’t do this, please come and meet me in one hour? By the pond in the park, I can help. Please let me help.”

“I’m sorry, Peter,” you sighed as you grabbed your bags and left your old life behind.

You were nearly across the bridge when the rain started and it quickly grew torrential, and you had a good job keeping the car steady. For just one second you took your eyes off the road to look at a car that was driving far too close. When you looked back at the road, it was much too late, you were going to crash!

You felt the impact of the crash and you felt a searing pain through your stomach, the last thing that you remembered before everything went black was a strange orange flash. You woke up to the sound of your driver’s side window being smashed, you managed to open your eyes and you briefly thought it was odd that the weather was so good. It didn’t even look like it had been raining, from what you could see there were no puddles on the pavement.

“Hey! Are you okay?” you heard a muffled voice, a man’s voice and you realised that someone in a red and suit was holding your head up.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” you slurred and tried to move but you cried out as you felt a searing pain in your stomach and you looked down to find a pool of blood on your white shirt.

The stranger reached through the smashed window to unlock the car, “I need to get you to the hospital!” he opened the door and carefully lifted you into his arms, “try and stay awake for me!”

You felt very tired as he carried you down the street, “who are you?” you asked as you looked up at him.

“I’m Spider-Man.”

You thought that was a funny name and as you yawned, you felt even more tired, “I’m very tired, Mr Spider-Man.”

Spider-Man looked down at you, you couldn’t see the concern on his face but you could hear it in his voice, “no, no! You need to stay with me, you need to stay awake!” his voice grew quieter and more muffled until everything went black again.

Hours later, you woke up to a blinding bright light and you realised that you were in a bed. Wincing, you sat up in the bed, feeling much stronger than before, you ran your hands over your stomach and felt the padding of the bandages. Looking around the room, you noticed that you were in a hospital room.

Before you could even begin to recall what happened, the door opened and in walked an older nurse with a kind face, “you’re awake honey! How are you feeling?”

“Much better, thank you,” you smiled, “somebody saved me, someone called Spider-Man, or maybe it was just a dream,” you laughed at the name but immediately regretted it as pain shot through your stomach.

The nurse smiled, “yeah, he tends to save people,” she laughed and nodded over to the corner of your room, “seems he brought your bags back, or somebody did if it wasn’t Spider-Man.”

You glanced over and with a great sense of relief, you saw that your suitcase and bags were sitting there. You were so glad that you still had all of your things, and more importantly, your savings and the money that you’d stolen from your parents safe.

“What’s your name, sweetheart?”

“Y/N,” you smiled, you were glad that she wasn’t pestering you for answers about what happened.

“I’m May Parker, I’ll be looking after you while you’re here, you had major surgery, Y/N. I’m sorry to say that you almost died on the table while the doctors were operating, so the hospital will have to keep you in observation for a few days, okay?”

“Okay, thank you,” you smiled at May, it wasn’t like you had anywhere to go at the moment anyway.

“You’re welcome,” May smiled back, “we tried calling your parents from your phone when you were brought in but we didn’t get an answer.”

“They’re out of the country,” you forced a smile, you were glad that your parents were away for two weeks.

May nodded with a concerned look on her face, “try and get some sleep, darling.”

By day three, you were starting to get really bored, you wrote a lot, you used to love writing and now, you had no excuse not to do it. A knock on the door made you jump and you frowned, May never knocked, she was a lovely person but she was quite firm.

“Come in,” you called out though it came out as more of a question.

In walked a very handsome boy with fluffy dark hair, “who are you?” you narrowed your eyes, he looked to be the same age as you.

He smiled and put two tables on your bedside table, “I’m Peter Parker, May’s nephew. I like to help out sometimes,” you smiled, that was really nice of him.

“I’m Y/N, or sometimes I go by MJ.”

Peter took it upon himself to sit in the chair by your bed, “pretty name.”

You felt the heat rise to your cheeks, that was exactly what your Peter had said. There was something about Peter that was familiar but you couldn’t put your finger on it, “have we met? Something about you seems so familiar.”

Peter’s brown eyes widened just a fraction, “no,” he laughed nervously, “I’m pretty sure that I’d remember meeting you,” he bit his lip, “so, what happened?”

You sighed, sitting up to take the pain medication, you normally wouldn’t be telling a perfect stranger but you had no one to talk to, “I was driving across the bridge and it was pouring down with rain, it was difficult to keep the car steady as it was. I took my eyes off the road for one second and I crashed.”

“It was raining?” Peter asked frowning when you nodded, “it hasn’t rained here for about two weeks, we’d be happy for a bit of rain to be honest.”

To say that you were confused was an understatement, “Peter, the rain was torrential, that’s why I crashed. The car skidded,” you sighed, “anyway, Spider-Man saved me, he was pretty great.”

Peter laughed as he ran a hand through your hair, “I’m sure he’d be happy to know that you’re okay. Where are your parents?”

You scoffed a little as you looked at Peter with a raised eyebrow, “nosy, aren’t you?”

Instead of looking offended, Peter only laughed as he held up his hands “guilty as charged, Aunt May always says that,” he shrugged, “no, I just assumed that as soon as your parents heard about this, they’d be running in to see if you were alright.”

“Your Aunt tried to call them from my phone when I was brought in, they’re out of the country.”

Realisation dawned on Peter’s face, “you were trying to get away from them weren’t you?”

Were you that transparent? It seemed that Peter could read you like a book, “please, don’t tell your Aunt about this.”

Peter smiled, “I won’t tell anyone, I promise.”

——————————–

Peter laughed at his Aunt as he walked down the corridors of the hospital, she was standing outside Y/N’s room with a smirk on her face, she was standing with a couple of her colleagues. He knew exactly what his Aunt was going to say.

“Back again, sweetheart?” Aunt May laughed and Peter rolled his eyes with a smile.

“No offense, all that MJ has for company is you so I just thought I’d come and see her,” Peter shrugged like it was no big deal, because it was no big deal. Peter thought that Y/N must be going crazy cooped up in that hospital room on her own.

“MJ?” May smirked as she raised an eyebrow, “given her a nickname already? Oh, that’s so sweet.”

“Ha ha, no, she told me when I first met her that she goes by Y/N, or MJ. I didn’t give her that nickname, now if you’ll excuse me?” he laughed as he walked into Y/N’s room.

“Hey MJ,” Peter smiled as he walked in and the girl sat up and smiled at him as she put her pad and pen on the bedside table.

“Peter! I told you that you didn’t have to keep coming to see me,” she smiled, “but I’m glad you’re here.”

Peter flushed as he shrugged it off, “I remember how boring it was to be in a hospital room on your own, I broke my arm when I was ten, it was the most boring week of my life,” he smiled and got a book out of his bag and put it on her bedside table, “thought you could do with some reading material too.”

Y/N smiled and looked at the book, “The Three Musketeers?”

Peter nodded as he sat on the chair that was by her bed, “yeah, it’s one of my favourites, have you ever read it?”

Y/N shook her head, “no, I’ve never even heard of it.” Peter frowned, how had she never heard of it? “how was your day, Peter?” MJ asked with a smile.

Peter laughed as he ran a hand through his hair, “my licence finally came in the mail, not that I’ll be driving through this hell city any time soon.”

MJ smirked at him teasingly, “can I see your picture?”

Peter shook his head quickly, “absolutely not, it’s completely awful, I look like a serial killer!”

She rolled her eyes and whined, “please, Peter? Mine’s awful too, they’re always awful, I’ll show you mine if you show me yours?” she was already getting out of bed and walking over to her bag.

Peter sighed, “fine, fine,” he laughed when they exchanged driving licences, MJ looked far too happy with this.

“Aw, Peter! You look so cute!” Peter flushed as he grinned at her before he looked down at Y/N’s driving licence.

He smiled at the picture, hers wasn’t awful at all, she looked pretty and fresh faced, not much different to how she looked now, it was when he looked at her name that he frowned, “Y/N Y/L/N, that’s your name?”

“Yeah, why?” Y/N asked and Peter could hear the confusion in her voice.

“No reason,” he muttered but he looked at her date of birth, the date of birth was the same, it was just the address that gave him pause. The address on the driver’s licence was on the same road as Peter’s, it was the house next door. But, no one had lived there for years.

Peter left earlier that day, mainly because he had to finish an assignment for college but he had to speak to his Aunt before he left.

“Aunt May,” he caught her in the corridor and she looked at him with concern.

“Is everything alright sweetheart? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

Peter laughed a little, “yeah, um, Y/N wanted to look at my driver’s licence photo so she let me have a look at hers. Aunt May her name is Y/N Y/L/N.”

Aunt May sighed, “yes, I know. I saw her date of birth as well.”

Peter was feeling conflicted, “should we tell her?”

“Absolutely not, if we tell her she’s got the same name and the same date of birth as a girl who went missing fifteen years ago she’ll have more questions than we’ve got answers for.”

Chapter One - The Writing in The Glass

You shivered as you walked down the street in the freezing cold, your manager at the shitty little restaurant that you’d been working in since graduation made you do an extra shift. As a result, you’d missed your bus and you hated getting the subway, you felt really unsafe when you did decide to get the subway. You couldn’t wait until your car was out of the shop, it had to go in for a service the other day. So, walking seemed the lesser of the two evils. You had to look on the bright side though, it had stopped raining about ten minutes ago.

A wave of cold water washed over you, making you gasp as you glared at the car which had just drenched you by driving through a lake sized puddle, “jerks!” you yelled after the car, knowing that it was futile. As you wrung the water out of your hair you sped up your pace, wanting to get home as soon as possible.

As you got to the porch of your house, you sighed as you spied your parents through the window, sitting in the living room. Your stomach filled with dread and it was almost laughable. What person would ever dread seeing their parents? If more people had parents like yours then you were sure that they’d understand. You reluctantly made your way up the porch steps and into the warm toasty house. You glanced at the fireplace in the living room, and sure enough it was blazing away.

“You’re late, Y/N,” you heard your dad say, and you rolled your eyes, you didn’t realise that you had a curfew at the age of 22.

“My manager made me do an extra shift and I missed my bus, you know that I begrudge getting the subway,” you replied, hovering in the doorway of the living room. Your little brother, Sam smiled at you, it felt like he was the only person in the world who loved you.

“We’re going for late dinner tonight,” your mom said without even looking up from her laptop.

You knew that ‘we’ meant her and your dad, so you grinned over at Sam, “want to get some pizza, squirt?”

Sam bit his lip and looked at your dad, “Sam’s coming with us, I trust that you can sort your own dinner out?” your dad sneered at you.

Even though you were used to your parents dismissing you like you were nothing, you still felt a stinging in your chest but you tried not to let it show on your face. You wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing you upset.

“I think I can manage,” you scoffed before shaking your head and turning around and running up the stairs, taking two at the time, you wanted to get away from your parents as quickly as possible. You hated living here, you thought college was your ticket out of here but NYU was the only school who had accepted you and you couldn’t afford to move out. You had even had to take a GAP year after graduating from University so you could work in your spare time.

You were hoping to do a Master’s degree in Philadelphia so you could finally get away from your parents and out of New York. New York just wasn’t home. You threw your bag onto your bed as you walked into your en suite to start your shower. As the water was heating up, you sat on the edge of your bed, and looked at the framed photograph on your nightstand.

It was a photograph of you when you were a kid at the fairground with cotton candy all around your face, you only partly remembered that day but one thing you did remember was how happy you were. You’d gone to the fairground with your parents and your dad had bought you the biggest bag of cotton candy that you’d ever seen, even though he knew you’d get it all over your face. Your dad must have been a different person back then.

Another memory that was your favourite was when your dad gave you a nickname because you having a rough time in elementary school and the nickname made you feel like you were someone else, if only for a little while. The weird thing was that in both of those memories, you couldn’t remember your dad’s face, maybe you just couldn’t imagine him being a good father.

You took the photograph out of the frame and smiled as you turned it over and read the inscription, ‘to my MJ, love Dad xxx’ MJ was your nickname, though he never called you that anymore. With a sigh, you put the photograph down and walked into your bathroom, the mirror was all fogged up from the steam of your shower so you wrote on the glass.

‘I don’t belong here,’ you thought it would make you feel seeing it written out, it didn’t, really.

You spent so much time in the scalding hot shower, and it was only when you heard the front door slam closed that you got out, and wrapped a warm fluffy towel around your wet body. You screamed in surprise as you looked up at the mirror to find there was a message on the glass, a message that you certainly hadn’t written.

Um, hi? Is this like in Harry Potter where he writes in Tom Riddle’s diary and the diary writes back to him?”

You frowned, more curious than scared. What the hell was Harry Potter? And, how was someone writing on your bathroom mirror? This had to be some impossible joke, this was impossible. In a weird sort of trance, you rubbed out the message and wrote on a fogged part of the glass.

“What in the world is Harry Potter?” a moment later you watched in disbelief as you watched the writing go across the mirror.

“You’ve never heard of Harry Potter? That’s sad :( it’s the series where a kid finds out he’s a wizard and he goes to a magic school, does it not ring a bell?”

You laughed at the reply as you wracked your brain, you were very sure that you had never heard of Harry Potter, “nope, I’ve never heard of it! Hey, you’re not a ghost, are you? I mean I can see your replies being written across my mirror so the most logical explanation is that you’re a ghost.”

You eagerly awaited the reply, your mood had improved drastically in the past couple of minutes. The reply was taking a little longer, it seemed that this stranger was taking their time curating their response, “I am not a ghost, thank you very much!! My name is Peter! Maybe you’re the ghost, after all, you did write the first message!”

You laughed as you dragged a comb through your wet hair, the person you were speaking to – if there was anybody even there – was a boy, “I’m not a ghost either! I’m Y/N, how old are you?”

“Y/N? That’s a real pretty name, I’m 22. How old are you?”

Your cheeks heated up at the compliment but you refused to acknowledge it, “me too.”

Later on that evening, you made yourself some dinner and put on a shitty horror movie, all the while thinking about Peter, it was impossible to be conversing with someone through a mirror. Maybe, maybe you had finally cracked, were you so lonely that you had imagined the whole thing? Was Peter merely a figment of your imagination.

That night you were having a hard time falling asleep so once again, you walked into your bathroom, breathed on your mirror to fog it up and wrote a message to Peter, “Peter? Are you awake?”

About half an hour later, a message was scrawled back across your mirror, “yeah, Y/N. What’s up?”

You bit your lip, if somebody was impossibly on the other side of the mirror, you didn’t want to overload all your feelings and insecurities but you had to tell someone, “nothing, it’s just I’m sorry about before with my whole ‘woe is me’ act, my parents are complete assholes,” calling them assholes was putting it lightly but you didn’t want to go into full detail.

“Don’t even worry about it Y/N! I’m sorry that they’re being assholes, that shouldn’t be their job. Look, I know that this is completely crazy and I don’t even know if you’re there, I could be talking to myself but if you ever need to talk to someone, I’m just a message away.”

You smiled, you wanted Peter to be real, “thanks, Peter. I just can’t wait to get out of here,” you sighed and sat back, now that you thought about it, you could run away without a trace, all you had to do was wait until your car was out of the garage and you had to wait about a month and a half before your parents left the country to go on holiday. But, you could run away, you had to run away.

———————————–

May Parker looked up in surprise as her nephew walked through the door, Peter smiled at her as he walked over to the fridge to grab a soda. Aunt May narrowed her eyes at him, confusion etched on her face.

“What?” Peter asked as he ran a hand through his hair.

Aunt May shrugged before she turned back round to the stove, “I wasn’t expecting you for dinner tonight. I thought you had a date.”

Peter sighed, the guilt curling in his stomach like a monster, “I thought that I was ready to date but I’m not, flirting is all well and good but I’m not ready for something real,” the memory of losing Gwen still killed him, knowing that he hadn’t been strong enough to save her was the worst kind of torment.

Aunt May nodded understandingly as she kissed his forehead and brushed his hair back, Peter was very grateful that she knew what he was going through and she knew exactly how he felt, “take your time, you loved Gwen so much, there’s no rush to move on, sweetheart,” she smiled, “meatloaf okay for dinner?”

Peter nodded with a smile, “yeah, sure,” at least it wasn’t spaghetti again. He made his way up the stairs and threw his bag on his bed with a sigh. Peter wanted to speak to her, he wanted to speak to Y/N like he had done for the past month. He wanted to know whether she was real or not, she was his friend. But, there was no way to see her.

Peter walked into the bathroom, fogged up the glass so he could write to her, “you there, Y/N?” as he awaited her reply, he decided to get changed into his comfy clothes, wincing as he brushed against a bruise on his body. He’d received multiple cuts and bruises, along with a gun shot from a crazy guy called ‘Kraven the Hunter.’ Just when he thought super villains couldn’t get any crazier, they always seemed to surpass themselves.

A couple of hours later, Y/N replied, “hey, Pete! I’m so sorry, I had to work overtime if I want to move out of my parent’s place!”

Peter smiled as he rubbed out the message and wrote back, “no worries! You really work long hours at this restaurant. Where is it? I want to come and see you, if that’s okay?” he bit his lip, hoping he wasn’t being too forward.

“I’d love that, Peter! I work in the newish French restaurant and bar just across from the park by the library.”

Peter frowned, there wasn’t a library across the park and there certainly wasn’t a French restaurant, “Y/N… there isn’t a French restaurant there, aren’t they just those fancy apartments.”

Y/N’s reply came back quickly, scrawled messily across the mirror, “uh, yeah there definitely is! I’ve been working there for over a year, Peter.”

Peter frowned, he’d have to go and have another look, he’d lived in the city for the whole of his life so he was sure he’d notice if a French restaurant popped up right where the fancy apartments were.

“Tell me about your day, Peter?”

“Well, I was meant to go out on a date this evening but I had to cancel at the last minute,” he paused in his writing, this wasn’t the first time he’d contemplated telling Y/N about what had happened to Gwen, but he just couldn’t, “I sent some more photographs to The Daily Bugle, the same old stuff really,” he was leaving out the bit where he stopped a bank robbery but he couldn’t ever tell anyone that he was Spider-Man. People got hurt when they knew, Gwen had been proof of that.

Before Y/N could write a reply, Aunt May shouted up, “Peter, sweetheart! Dinner’s ready!”

“I’m sorry, Y/N, I have to go, I’ll talk to you later!”

As he was leaving the bathroom, he glanced over his shoulder and grinned at the reply that he saw across his mirror, “speak to you later, Peter! Xoxo’

The rain incessantly pounded against your window pane, the weather has been rubbish all day but it couldn’t dampen your spirits. You were living your best life right now, you knew that for sure, you had just moved into your first apartment with the boy that you had dated since high school, and you were still going strong. Peter Parker was the love of your life, you had never been more certain of anything, you were going to marry him one day.

As you were chopping some garlic, the radio station started to play your favourite song. You grinned as the warm upbeat song filled your small kitchen, almost making you forget about the horrid weather outside. You began moving to the music and singing to the lyrics as it played from the crackly radio.

‘Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are gone
And the bright days are here
My sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true, I love you.’

You were so busy dancing and singing to the song that you didn’t hear the door open and close, and you didn’t hear the footsteps of your boyfriend echoing through the apartment. Peter paused in the doorway of the kitchen and pulled off his mask, grinning as he watched you dance and heard your angelic voice singing. He was so in love with you. He thought of the ring that he’d hidden in his underwear drawer.

Before you could tip the chopped garlic into the saucepan you felt something sticky attach itself to your hand and you squeaked in surprise as you were pulled backwards and into the soaking wet arms of your boyfriend. You smiled as you looked into Peter’s handsome face and cupped his jaw.

“Jesus, Peter. What have I told you about doing that?” you laughed.

Peter grinned as he stroked your hair, “I’m sorry, baby. I just couldn’t help myself, I was watching you dance,” with an embarrassed sort of scoff, you looked away with your cheeks burning, “hey,” Peter whispered, cupping your chin as he kissed you gently before he started swaying on the spot with you in his arms.

‘Sunny, thank you for the smile upon your face
Sunny, thank you for the gleam that shows its grace
You’re my spark of nature’s fire
You’re my sweet complete desire
Sunny one so true, I love you’

He sang softly into your ear and you grinned as you wrapped your arms around his neck, your fingers delving into his soft hair, “what are you doing?” you whispered and you heard him chuckle.

“What does it look like? I’m dancing with my best girl,” you could hear the smile in his voice as you rested your head against his firm chest.

“In the middle of our tiny apartment?” you laughed.

Peter pulled back to look at your face, bringing one hand up to your cheek, “it doesn’t matter where we are, Y/N. It only matters that we’re together.”

You leaned into his touch as you swooned at his words, with butterflies fluttering in your stomach, you stood up on your tiptoes to kiss him gently. He sighed into the kiss as he took both hands off of your waist to cup your cheeks as he kissed you back, “I love you, Peter.”

Peter smiled as he pressed his forehead against yours, “I love you too, my Y/N, you have my whole heart.”

You smiled, stroking your fingers through his hair, Peter leaned into your touch as he pulled you closer, “come cuddle with me in bed.”

“I’d love to, but I’m making dinner.”

Peter pouted at your words as he kissed your forehead, his lips against your forehead as he spoke, “please, angel? We can get take out or we can cook together, please come and cuddle with me?”

You sighed as Peter pulled back from you to give you the puppy dog eyes and you felt your resolve weakening before it finally broke. You narrowed your eyes at him as you sighed with exasperation as you walked over to the stove to turn the gas off. When Peter realised what you were doing he whooped with delight as he picked you up. You laughed as you wrapped your legs around his waist and he took you into the bedroom.

You perched on the end of your bed as you watched Peter get undressed and he looked at you with a satisfied smirk on his face that made you want to throw a pillow at him. Peter hissed and winced as he took his suit off, leaving him in his underwear. You gasped as you saw the bruises all over his body and you got to your feet and walked over to him.

“Oh baby,” you touched his bruises lightly and you heard him inhale sharply, “I’m sorry,” you bit your lip as you took your hands away.

“I’m okay,” you heard Peter say but you wouldn’t look at him, you couldn’t look away from his bruises. You knew being Spider – Man had an occupational hazard but you still hated it when he got hurt, “hey,” Peter tilted your chin up so you looked at him, “I’m fine, I promise,” he pulled on your bottom lip with his thumb and kissed you gently.

He grinned at you when he pulled away and opened his drawers to get dressed while you stole one of his shirts to wear. Peter smirked when he turned around to look at you, “god, you always look so good in my clothes, Y/N,” he jumped onto the bed and patted the space next to him.

You rolled your eyes with a laugh as you crawled onto the bed and snuggled up with him, leaning your head against his chest. Peter kissed the top of your head as he wrapped his arms around you, his gentle fingers playing with the ends of your hair, “so, how was your day?”

You sighed as you tucked your head beneath his chin, “just had a load of college work to do, I really don’t want to fall behind,” you were currently doing a Master’s degree in university.

“Anything I can help with sweetheart?” you smiled as you sat up to look at his gorgeous face, gazing at the golden flecks in his eyes.

“You’ve already got enough on your plate, honey, thank you for the offer though,” you kissed his cheek as you laid back down. The room was silent for a while, all you could hear was the pounding of the rain and the beating of Peter’s heart, it was very peaceful, you could stay like this forever.

It was Peter who broke the silence and his voice almost sounded timid, “Y/N? I’ve got something that I need to do.”

With a confused frown, you looked up at him, “okay, what is it?”

Peter’s cheeks were red as he smiled down at you, “can you close your eyes?”

You complied as you shut your eyes, now even more confused. What could he possibly have to do? Worry swirled in your gut, you hoped it wasn’t anything bad, you felt him get off the bed and shuffle around the room for a couple of moments, you so wanted to peek at what he was doing. You felt the bed dip as he got back onto it and you heard a soft snapping noise.

“Okay, you can open your eyes.”

You opened your eyes to look at Peter’s nervous face and then you looked at what he was holding and your breath escaped your lungs as you looked at the diamond ring in the palm of his hand. He laughed nervously as he ran a hand through his hair.

“I wanted to do this in a more romantic way but as soon as I saw you dancing in the kitchen, I knew I had to do it today. Y/N Y/L/N, I’ve been in love with you since the 9th grade and I still can’t believe that you love me back. Will you make me the happiest man in the world? Will you marry me?”

You gasped as the tears stung at your eyes, you wanted to say yes but you had somehow forgotten how to talk, a couple of moments went by without an answer and Peter was starting to look nervous, “Y/N?” Peter prompted, his voice breaking a little.

Finally, you snapped out of it and found your voice, “yes Peter! Of course I’ll marry you!” you laughed as you held out your hand and Peter slid the ring on kissing your knuckles.

“I’m sorry, I had a real plan. I was going to take you to a fancy restaurant, roses, champagne the whole works but I just couldn’t wait,” he looked sheepish.

“I wouldn’t have wanted this any other way, Peter, this is perfect, intimate. Just me and you, like it should be,” you looked down at the dazzling ring with a grin on your face, “the ring is beautiful,” you took it off your finger to look at it properly and you saw an inscription on the inside of the band, ‘for my, Y/N.’

Tears sprang to your eyes as you leaned down and kissed him deeply, “I love you Peter.”

Peter grinned as he pressed his forehead against yours, “I love you too, Y/N. So much.”

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are gone
And the bright days are here
My sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true, I love you

I love you
I love you
I love you

God, I wish that you had thought this through

Before I went and fell in love with you

The knock on your window startled you as you were packing your things into a cardboard box, a smile spread across your face when you saw that it was Spider – Man. A few months ago the superhero had fallen into your garden, dressed in red and blue, and missing his mask. He had been hurt and he needed help. Obviously, you weren’t a doctor but you patched him up as best you could and sent him on his way, but every time he was in the neighbourhood he came to see you.

You put the box down and walked over to your window, opening it with a grin, “hi, Peter,” you stood aside to let him climb through the window.

“Hey, Y/N,” he grinned as he pulled off his mask to reveal his handsome face, you blushed as he pulled you into a hug, “how are you?” he smiled, leaning against the wall.

You tried to stop your eyes from ogling him but it was hard when he was smiling at you like that with his hair all messy, “I’m good, how about you? Are you hurt?”

You walked closer to him, looking for any sign that he was hurt, Peter shook his head with a small smile as he brushed his knuckles against your cheek, “just some bruised ribs, I’m okay.”

You smiled, looking away from his eyes to look at his mouth and you looked back at his eyes, “make sure you put some ice on it.”

“Of course, Doctor Y/N,” he smiled, kissing your cheek as he pulled away from you and went to sit on your bed.

You touched the place where he’d kissed you to find that it was warm, you wanted him, you wanted to kiss him properly but you couldn’t. You couldn’t ruin your friendship so you had to wait until he made the first move. He’d been coming to see you all this time, surely he had to harbour more than friendly feelings for you. How you wished that could be true.

He looked around at the boxes with interest, “are you moving or something?” he asked as you sat next to him.

You sighed and nodded your head, your family was moving upstate to Midtown for your dad’s new job, it was too far for him to commute. You didn’t want to move, you’d miss your school and your friends, you didn’t want to have to start afresh, “yeah, upstate,” you sighed, you’d really miss Peter too.

Instead of matching your glum energy, Peter smiled brightly, “I think you’ll love it upstate, it’s cool! And we’ll still be able to hang out, I’ll come and see you in your new place, if that’s okay of course,” he added quickly before he mumbled, “don’t wanna be a stalker or anything.”

You laughed with a nod, delighted that he still wanted to see you, you bit your lip as you gained the courage for what you knew you had to say, “why don’t you take my number?” you blushed, “then, you won’t have to search for the new place,” you laughed and shifted on the bed, you knee touching his.

The only reason why you knew Peter was because he kept coming to see you, you wouldn’t have known him any other way.

Your heart dropped when Peter gave you a pained smile, “a number comes with too many promises.”

“Like what, Peter?” you bit your lip as you watched the conflict play across Peter’s face.

“Promises that I can’t keep, look, Y/N,” he sighed sitting up and tucking your hair behind your ear, “I like you a lot, but I’m not looking for anything right now, not with the whole Spider-Man thing. Please, understand,” he pressed his warm lips against your cheek again.

Peter’s words were still ringing in your ears as you watched him climb back through the window later on that night. You watched him swing away on his webs with a heavy heart until he was nothing but a speck in the distance.

About a month later you were looking down the hallways of your new school with a confused look on your face. It was your first day and you were very, very lost, you were too anxious to ask anyone for their help. You were about to go wandering again when you noticed a very familiar looking boy taking photographs just in front of you. Happiness and perhaps a little bit of astonishment filled your body.

“Peter?” you called out, grinning when he put his camera down with a raised eyebrow, you couldn’t believe that he was actually here.

“Y/N!” he said with a shocked smile as you ran up to him and threw your arms around him, feeling his chuckle rumble in his chest. God, you loved his laugh, “what are you doing here?” he asked as he pulled away from you.

“I told you I was moving upstate, it’s my first day at this school,” you smiled.

“Wow, it, it’s so good to see you,” he smiled, almost looking dumbfounded.

You melted at his words, “look, Peter. I,” you blushed, hesitating as he looked at you with those gorgeous brown eyes. You wanted to tell him how you felt, you needed to tell him how you felt. You laughed nervously when Peter raised an eyebrow, “you see, the thing is,” you trailed off when a beautiful girl with white blonde hair walked up to Peter.

“Hey, you, who’s this?” she asked, looking at you with a kind smile.

Your eyes flickered over to Peter who was looking at you with an unreadable expression on his face, “Gwen, this is my friend, Y/N, it’s her first day. Y/N, this is my girlfriend, Gwen.”

Your heart dropped and sank to your stomach like a stone, quickly you managed to recover with a strained smile as Gwen spoke to you, “it’s nice to meet you, Y/N. How are you liking Midtown so far?” Gwen smiled and you watched her link her fingers through Peter’s with a sick feeling in your stomach.

“It’s nice to meet you too,” you forced a smile, fighting back the tears in your eyes, “I like it, though I’d like it more if I could find my class. Speaking of, I’d better find it,” you glanced up at the happy couple and pushed past them without waiting for an answer. You walked with your head down, finally letting the tears streak down your cheeks.

Peter cornered you at the end of the day while you were putting your books into your locker, “Y/N,” he started with a guilty look on his face.

“Leave me alone, Peter,” you sniffed as you slammed your locker door shut.

“Y/N, please!” he grabbed your arm gently as you tried to walk away from him.

You whirled round to look at him and scoffed when you saw that he looked like a wounded puppy, “don’t you dare look at me like that!” you hissed. Is this what it felt like to have your heart broken? “I feel like such an idiot, I thought you liked me. I tried not to look too much into it. But, I wanted to be sure,” you didn’t want him to see you cry but it was too late, “you kissed me Peter. Twice.”

“On the cheek. It was a friendly kiss, I do like you as a friend, you’re my friend, Y/N,” he sighed, running his hands through his hair.

Anger rose in your chest, mingling with the sadness, “then why did you lie? You told me that you weren’t looking for anything. But, you were, just not with me,” your bottom lip wobbled, “you should have told me, Peter. You should have told me the truth, you can’t have been blind to my affections for you, not after all these months.”

“I’m so sorry, I never meant to hurt you,” he reached out for you but you backed away.

“That’s okay, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be,” you wiped your tears and your voice broke, “she’s beautiful, Peter. Gwen, really is beautiful.”

Peter nodded as he looked away from you, with a sigh you shook your head as you walked down the corridor, pausing to glance over your shoulder, “Peter?” with a hopeful sort of look, Peter looked up at you, “I don’t want to see you, or Spider-Man for that matter,” you looked away as a wave of sadness washed over you.

And that was how you left him, staring after you in that deserted corridor. So much for a first day.

Chapter I

The last Saturday of summer had always been reserved for a family night, though your younger sister, Lisa managed to get out of it because she didn’t come back from summer camp until tomorrow. Usually, you resented family night, opting to sneak out afterwards to go to Flash Thompson’s last party of the summer. However, you didn’t feel like it this year because you knew that your ex-boyfriend, Max would be there.

About three weeks ago you had discovered that Max had been unfaithful to you so you broke up with him, and the only person you had told was your mom. Initially, you had been heartbroken, you’d been together for three years, but now you felt a bit better about the whole situation because the sadness had turned to anger. You would rather be angry than heartbroken; you didn’t want to mope around for any longer.

You smiled at your mom, Maria as you walked into the glorious smelling kitchen, there were notes of garlic and herbs in the air, “smells amazing, mom.”

Maria grinned at you as she kissed your hair, “thank you baby, you look like you’re feeling better.”

You shrugged as you snagged a handful of grated cheese, ignoring the way she tutted at you, “yeah, I’m okay. Max is a huge jerk.”

Maria laughed and was about to reply, when the back door banged open and your twin brother Frankie walked in, spattered with mud and carrying a football, he’d spent most of his summer playing soccer. He was going to be the Captain of the football team this year, senior year.

“Hey, mom, is it cool if Peter comes to dinner tonight?” he asked as he got a bottle of grape soda from the fridge.

Maria smiled, “of course darling, I really like Peter.”

You scoffed and leaned against the kitchen counter, “only because Peter keeps him out of trouble because he’s such a loser.”

Frankie and Peter had been friends for years, and it was the most unlikely pairing because Frankie was popular and on the football team, while Peter was in the decathlon team, but it seemed like Frankie didn’t really care about the status quo, not like you did.

“Y/N!” your mom said sternly as she frowned at you.

Frankie narrowed his eyes as he glared at you, it was remarkable how much he looked like your dad when he did that, “oh dear, I’m terribly sorry, Y/N,” he started sarcastically, “I forgot that unfortunately we can’t be all as popular as you and Max. Where is he anyway? I haven’t seen the little shit in ages.”

“We broke up.”

Frankie’s face fell and he looked apologetic – an expression he rarely wore – “what happened?”

You raised an eyebrow and shrugged, “he cheated on me so I dumped him.”

Frankie cursed beneath his breath, the angry look fixed on his face again, “he’s not playing on the team this year I’m going to kill him!”

“Who are we killing?” your godfather, Billy Russo laughed as he walked into the kitchen with your dad, Frank.

Your mom sighed as she turned round with her hands on her hips, fixing all four of you with a stern look, “we have a perfectly good living room! Why don’t you all go in there instead of distracting me?” she laughed as she shooed all four of you out into the hallway.

Frankie looked at Billy and your dad, “we’re killing Y/N’s ex-boyfriend, Max.”

There was a look of immense relief on Frank’s face, “thank god you’ve got rid of that tool! You’re much better without him sweetheart,” he smiled as he wrapped and arm around your shoulders and kissed your forehead.

“Thanks, dad,” you laughed.

“Frankie, if you don’t get a shower before Peter comes then you’re not joining us for dinner!” your mom shouted from inside the kitchen.

You smirked at your brother, “she’s right, you do pong a little,” you laughed when Frankie gave you the finger and traipsed up the stairs, bouncing his muddy ball onto the carpet as he went. Mom was going to kill him.

You were helping Maria set the dining room table when the doorbell rang, making you jump slightly, “can you get that for me love? It’ll be Peter,” she smiled as she lit some vanilla scented candles, you sighed and nodded, “be nice, Y/N,” she warned you.

“Of course,” you mumbled beneath your breath, it’s not like you hated Peter or anything, you just didn’t know him and you had no desire to get to know him.

You pulled open the door and acknowledged the curly haired boy with a nod of your head, he smiled at you as he hitched his bag higher onto his shoulder, “hey Y/N.”

“Hi Peter, come on in,” you stepped aside to let him in and he smiled at you gratefully, “Frankie’s upstairs, you can go on up.”

“Thanks,” he smiled and looked through to the kitchen, “hi Mr and Mrs Castle, Mr Russo,” he waved politely and all three adults beamed.

“Hey Pete,” your dad grinned, it was clear that everyone loved Peter.

Dinner was great that night, everyone was getting on and the conversation was flowing freely as you all sampled your mom’s delicious food. Billy was talking about his security company, Anvil and Peter seemed really interested, it looked like he was hanging onto Billy’s every word. You wouldn’t have thought that Peter would be interested in something like Anvil.

There was a short lull in the conversation where Frankie caught your eye with a smirk on his face and you raised an eyebrow at him questioningly as you sipped your soda, he looked over at your mom and gestured to his food, “the food is great mom but it could really do with some more salt,” he joked.

You let out a surprised laugh while Peter gasped and Billy snorted into his food, your dad had to look away to keep himself from laughing.

Maria narrowed her eyes at her son, if looks could kill then Frankie would be six feet under, “oh, tu maiale ingrato,” she tried to sound stern but you could hear the laughter in her voice.

Frankie gasped, “I have no idea what you’ve just said but it sounded very offensive,” your brother wasn’t really interested in learning Italian, “seriously, what did you just call me?”

“An ungrateful pig,” you and Peter said in unison and you glanced up at Peter in surprise to see a faint blush painted across his cheeks.

“I didn’t know that you knew Italian,” you remarked as you shovelled in a forkful of pasta.

“I didn’t expect you to know something like that,” he mumbled, his eyes widening a second later as he glanced over at your dad nervously, “I just mean, we don’t really talk all that much so how could you have known?” he laughed nervously and you smirked at his shyness.

Your mom quickly changed the subject, throwing a meaningful look at you “are you guys sneaking off to Flash’s party tonight?”

You choked on your soda as you exchanged panicked looks with Peter and Frankie, “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” at your blatant lie, Billy snickered around his beer but managed to pass it off as a cough.

Your dad only chuckled as he leaned back in his chair, “you think we don’t know? We weren’t born yesterday, Y/N. We left you to it because we trust you and sneaking out is a normal teenage thing.”

You smiled at your dad before shaking your head, “I won’t be going but I’ve told Flash that he needs to save me some cake,” you laughed.

Peter frowned over at you, “I don’t mean to be nosy but why aren’t you going, Y/N? Won’t Max be there?”

“We broke up, Peter.”

Peter’s face drained of colour as he bit his lip and ran his fingers through his hair, “sorry, Y/N,” he mumbled.

“Don’t worry about it,” you replied with a smile.

Frankie snickered as he looked between you and Peter, shaking his head when you gave him a questioning look, “don’t worry about her, Pete, she’s been shut up in her room for most of the summer,” he smirked, to which you rolled your eyes, tempted to give him the finger.

“I’ll have you know that I’ve been working on a project that hopefully will help Tony Stark and The Avengers.”

Peter perked up, looking delighted, “I’m sure he’ll be grateful for the help, Y/N,” he grinned at you and you couldn’t help but smile back.

Later on, when Frankie and Peter were leaving for Flash’s party, Frankie glanced at you from over his shoulder, “are you sure that you don’t want to come?” he asked, his eyes full of concern.

Forcing a smile, you shook your head, though you were mostly alright with the breakup, you still didn’t want to see Max flirting with everyone in sight. Because, you knew that he would be, “no thanks, don’t forget the cake,” you warned with a laugh.

“I’ll make sure he doesn’t,” Peter smirked at Frankie.

“Thanks, Peter,” you laughed and Frankie held up his hands in mock surrender.

“Never thought I’d see the day when you guys are ganging up on me together,” he chuckled, “if I happen to see Max, I’m going to kick his ass.”

“You’re the real MVP, Frankie,” you laughed as he bade you goodbye with a lazy salute, before walking out the front door with Peter. They didn’t have to sneak out this year.

You decided to go to bed early that night because your mom and dad ended up snuggled on the sofa with a bottle of red wine, and Billy had a date. Over the past few weeks, you had got out of the habit of constantly checking your phone, but tonight you just couldn’t help it. Nothing. You weren’t completely sure what you were looking for. Closure, perhaps? An explanation?

With a sigh, you walked into your bedroom and threw your phone onto your bed, you were just going to go straight to bed but you decided to work some more on your project. The formula needed to be refined before you presented it to Mr Stark. When you were struggling to keep your eyes open, you finally climbed into your warm bed and fell into a dreamless sleep within seconds.

On your last day of freedom, you woke up bright and early, feeling refreshed and made your way downstairs. You were filled with delight when you walked into the kitchen and saw cupcakes from Flash’s party on the counter, you didn’t see the way your parents were eyeing you with worry. You picked up a cupcake and laughed at the Spider-Man frosting.

“God, Flash is so obsessed,” you smiled as you turned to face your parents, your smile dropped when you saw the horrified looks on their faces, “what? What’s wrong?” you asked, feeling worry fill your chest.

“Y/N,” your mom sighed, before hesitating as if she was trying to gather her thoughts, “when was the last time you saw or heard from Max?”

You sighed, putting the cupcake down, confused as to why she was bringing this up, “I saw him a few days ago at the grocery store. Why?”

“Sweetheart,” your dad started as he reached out for you, “he was found this morning off a trail in the woods.”

“Found?” you frowned, you didn’t like the sound of that at all.

Frank sighed as he exchanged a worried look with Maria, “I’ll try and put this as delicately as I can, Y/N. Max was found in the woods with his wrists slashed, it looks like he’s been there for a day or two at the most, it seems like he did it to himself. It’s not public knowledge yet but his parents gave us a call earlier this morning, they wanted you to know. I’m so sorry darling.”

For a second, you felt nothing, and then your brain finally registered his words and you felt faint, tears springing to your eyes.

“Y/N, sweetie, are you okay?” your mom’s voice sounded as though it was underwater.

“I’m going to be sick,” you managed to say before you ran out of the room and emptied the contents of your stomach into the toilet. Tears streamed down your face, Max was dead? It was hard to believe that he’d killed himself.

You didn’t know how deal with your feelings, you should be troubled and sad, maybe, the reality hadn’t sunken in yet. You jumped when you felt a gentle, cool hand on your back, you didn’t even hear anyone come into the bathroom. You turned around and saw with embarrassment that it was Peter, he had a look of concern on his face and he was holding a glass of water. His hair was curly and his eyes were sleepy as he rubbed them with one hand.

“Thank you,” you mumbled as he handed it to you.

“Are you sick?” he asked and you shook your head.

“No, I’ll be fine, you don’t have to worry about me.”

Peter shrugged with a small smile, “I don’t mind,” he sat next to you as you drained the glass of water like it was the sweetest thing you’d ever tasted, “wanna talk about it?”

You scoffed a little, “no, but I’m sure that you’ll find out in a couple of days anyway. Max was found dead in the woods, he killed himself,” you whispered, it sounded so awful to say out loud.

Peter’s eyes widened and he looked horrified but he seemed to snap out of it pretty quickly so he could comfort you, “Y/N, I’m so sorry. How are you feeling?”

You were grateful that he didn’t ask you if you were okay, because of course you weren’t. You shrugged, “I should be heartbroken, I should be sobbing on this floor right now but I hardly feel anything, like I’m numb.”

Peter nodded, it looked like he knew what you were talking about, “everybody deals with grief differently but I was the same way after my Uncle died.”

“How long did it take for reality to set in?”

Peter bit his lip, “a couple of days,” he hesitated, running his fingers through his hair, “look, I know this is probably the longest conversation we’ve ever had but you can talk to me about this if you need to. Anytime.”

“Thank you, Peter,” you smiled at him.

“Everything alright, guys?” Frankie said from the doorway as he looked between you and Peter with an unreadable expression on his face.

You forced a smile, “yeah! You guys are going to the beach today, right?”

Frankie nodded, running a hand through his hair, “we really should get going, Pete.”

Peter bit his lip as he looked at you and you smiled, “I’ll be fine, go.”

Peter nodded as he got to his feet, “remember what I said, Y/N?” he bit his lip as he looked at you almost shyly.

“Of course, thanks Pete,” you nodded, ignoring the suspicious look on Frankie’s face.

I think I’m going to take advantage of the fact that I publish this to tell some curiosities about him:

(Creo que voy a aprovechar que publico ésto para contar algunas curiosidades sobre él:)

. He is a big fan of the supernatural, mainly aliens and all the conspiracies or theories related to these topics. (His obsession is such for these issues, that he begins to monitor the daily routines of his neighbors in the apartment to look for evidence of reptilians or aliens …which does not end up being to Don’s liking, who has already tired of warning him that he will throw him out if he continues with his particular hobby xd)

.He is good with some instruments and likes to compose songs … but he always leaves them unfinished (he is very lazy even with his own hobbies)

(Es bueno con algunos instrumentos y le gusta componer canciones… aunque nunca las termina. Es muy vago hasta con sus propios pasatiempos.

. He is very lazy, irresponsible, childish but mostly clumsy at work.

it is advisable to keep it away from fragile objects… and the fire… NEVER let his cook X"D

(Es realmente holgazán, irresponsable, infantil; pero sobretodo muy torpe en el trabajo.

Es recomendable mantenerlo lejos de las cosas frágiles ….y del fuego ….NUNCA hay que dejarlo cocinar X"D)

.The only thing his can make perfectly without ending up burning half a room is pancakes

(Lo único que puede preparar sin terminar quemando media habitación son los pancakes)

♥️pocky day! 11/11♥️

- If Sarah “otaku” tried to play the “pocky game” with Y/N I think she would feel that she is fulfilling one of her romantic manga fantasies … at least as long as the illusion lasts X"D

-(Si la Sarah “otaku” intentara jugar al “juego de los pocky” con Y/N, creo que sentiría que está cumpliendo una de sus fantasías románticas de manga … al menos mientras dure la ilusión X"D)

- Now, with Peter emo … maybe the game will end in a draw where they both lose by not following some simple rules xd

-(Ahora, con Peter emo … tal vez el juego termine en un empate donde ambos pierden al no seguir algunas reglas simples xd )
