Two quick and simple remedies for easing Asthma symptoms!

1. Oregano tea, this quick to make and refreshing tea has many health benefits but it’s particular strength is it’s relaxant and anti-inflammatory properties. The anti inflammatory effect helps to soothe the inflamed passages in the lungs and is especially helpful for sufferers who experience sudden inflammation through influences such as allergens, pollen for example.

How to make:

  • Take 2 teaspoons of freshly picked and washed Oregano leaves tightly packed, or 1 teaspoon of dry Oregano leaves and add into your cup
  • Pour over freshly boiled water
  • Let it steep for 5-10 minutes (longer is stronger but more bitter)
  • Add honey or lemon to taste and drink!

2. Turmeric powder, this powder is also very high in anti-inflammatory properties and is great for helping to keep general Asthma symptoms at bay. It can be drunk in teas, taken in pill capsules made by yourself, or simply added to a variety of meals such as Curries & Noodle dishes.

To get the most out of Turmeric it is best taken fairly regularly, I take one      500 MG capsule a day during Summer time to help keep lung inflammation at bay (Summer is when I suffer most with my Asthma due to pollens etc)

For those who would prefer a Turmeric tea -

  • 2 Tea spoons dried Turmeric powder
  • 50 ML raw Honey
  • 1 Tea spoon of freshly ground Black Pepper
  • 1 Tea spoon of Lime or Lemon juice
  • Add the ingredients to a Mortar and work it into a consistent paste
  • Boil enough water to fill ¾ of a cup and put the paste at the bottom of the cup, stirring as you pour in the water
  • Drink when cool

Quick bonus tip - There are many teas out there that can also help relieve Asthma symptoms such as Ginger & Redbush/Rooibos tea, the trick is finding what works for you and what you prefer most!

Caution - remember to always be aware of any allergies you have and to take care with trying any new ingredients in your diet, if you have allergies to any spices similar to Turmeric then it is best to check with your doctor before adding it in any form to your diet. Same for Oregano, those who are allergic to similar herbs such as Lavender & Marjoram may be at risk.

If pregnant or breast feeding don’t take any extra Turmeric supplements on top of any in your diet, same goes for Diabetics as it can lower blood sugar levels a lot.

Lastly, if you find Oregano tea does help a lot, you might like to consider growing your own plants as it is an easy and cost effective way to keep it at hand at all times rather than buying expensive shop bought teas!
