Back To That Night

Pin reminisces over the first day he met Y/N after realising he wants to spend the rest of his life with them.

Based on ‘In Love With Your Soul’ by The Collection

***************************

Pin was nervous, more so than usual whenever he was around you. He jiggled his leg in a constant rhythm as his hand crept to the breast pocket of his shirt for the fiftieth time since he’d sat down. He checked his watch. You should be there in about five minutes, you were never late. Dates with Pin were your favourite time. You just had no idea how significant this one would be.

Sure enough, on the dot there was a knock on the door and Pin all but leapt up from the table, hurrying over to open it. You stood on the doorstep, a massive smile on your face despite the pouring rain outside. Pin ushered you inside and took your soaking wet jacket from your shoulders.

“I’m not late, am I?” You asked. “Sorry, I decided to walk here instead of riding and then I got caught in the storm.” You held your hands up, shaking your head. “Absolute nightmare.”

“No, you’re fine. You’re actually perfect.” Pin replied with a grin.

You turned and saw the beautiful set-up in front of you. Pin hadn’t held back. He’d been so busy lately with duties at the castle and you’d been busy with your new job at the stables, this was the first time in ages you’d been able to spend time together and he wanted it to be special. He’d made your favourite dinner and cleaned the place top to bottom.

“Pin.” You gasped. “This looks so good. What’s the occasion?”

“Just an excuse to spend time with my favourite person.” He told you. A half-truth. “Shall we?”

You both sat down at the table and you couldn’t help but laugh lightly. Pin raised an eyebrow in question. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. Just the chaos of getting here, it sort of reminded me of the first night we met.”

It was like you had read his mind completely. Pin grinned like an idiot, reaching over to take your hand which was resting on the tabletop. “Yeah, I was thinking about that too. The rain, the drama, it takes me right back to that night.”

“I’m still so glad it happened. Otherwise we might not be here right now.”

It was true. Pin had never stopped being grateful for that night. It was like fate had put you right where you needed to be.

***

You’d only just moved onto the island and you barely knew anyone yet. Your father had worked at a stables on the mainland and now had business with Holloway. You were yet to find out about the rivalry with Bright Fields, the place that would become your second home. However, on that September night, it was just you and your horse, Faith.

You’d wanted to go riding and familiarise yourself with the area but you hadn’t anticipated the harsh weather to come. When you first rode out, it was just some light drizzle but before long, it turned into a torrential downpour. Since you didn’t properly know the island yet, you got turned about and promptly lost your way.

This is bad, Faith.” You spoke to the mare as you led her along the beach. The rain was even worse here being so close to the sea. Your clothes were soaked through and you were shivering. If you weren’t able to find shelter soon, you worried you might catch hypothermia or something.

And then, as if the universe had heard your thoughts, you saw the twinkling lights of a house on top of the hill. Of course, there was no way of knowing who you might find up there but at that point, you weren’t in a position to be fussy. You led Faith up the hill towards the lights. It was the best decision you ever made.

“It’s OK, girl.” You reassured her as you made your way up the path. “Hopefully whoever lives here can help us out of the storm.”

You reached the top to find a ramshackle little house with a few shipping containers outside, along with a bunch of tools and some hay. Apparently whoever lived here also kept horses. You left Faith to graze while you went to the door and knocked a couple of times.

You heard footsteps inside and then the door was opening and a young boy, about the same age as you, was peering out. You must have looked a state in your bedraggled clothes but you gave him your best smile nonetheless.

“Hi.” You said to him. “I’m so sorry to bother you. I’m new to the island and me and my horse…” You motioned to Faith. “We got a little lost. I hate to ask only it’s raining and it’s getting dark. Do you think I could use your phone?”

The boy smiled and shook his head. “You do seem to be in quite the situation.” Even in your rain-soaked state, he couldn’t help but note the twinkle in your eyes, there was something about you. He just didn’t know what it was yet. “Come in. I’m Pin, by the way.”

“Pin.” You repeated with a nod. “I think you might just be my hero. Thank you. I’m Y/N.” You stepped inside, glad to finally be out of the rain. You expected him to shut the door but he made to go outside.

“I can put your horse in the stable along with mine, save her being out in the rain. What’s her name?”

“Faith.” You told him. “Are you sure? I hate to impose.”

“It’s no problem.” He assured you. “Elvis will be glad of the company.”

Just go careful, she can be a little skittish around new people.”

“Don’t worry, I’m good with horses.” He stepped outside and slowly made his way over to Faith. You were struck by his gentleness as he carefully took her reins and led her around the back to where his barn was. A minute later, he reappeared and closed the door. “Phone’s through here.”

You made a call to your parents, letting them know you were safe and where you were. Your father confirmed he would drive over to get you, which left you waiting out the minutes with Pin.

“So,” you made conversation as you both sat at the table. The moonlight illuminated your face and something about it made Pin’s breath catch in his throat. “You ride too?”

“Yeah.” Pin nodded. “I’ve been riding since I was a kid.”

Me too.” You replied. “Something about it, there’s just something so...”

“Freeing?” Pin suggested and your eyes lit up.

Exactly. I can’t imagine my life without horses. Especially Faith.”

Have you enrolled at a stables yet?” He asked you.

Not yet.” You answered. “But my dad has a new job at Holloway, that’s why we moved here, so I guess I’ll be starting there.”

Holloway have a competitive application process, you know.”

You shrugged. “I like my chances.”

Pin shook his head. “You shouldn’t go to Holloway. You should go to Bright Fields.

Bright Fields?”

“It’s the other island stables. Not as prestigious as Holloway, but a nicer atmosphere. And it’s where I work.”

You chuckled. “Hoping to see me more often?” You joked but you didn’t miss a faint blush creep up on him.

“I wouldn’t hate it.” He admitted.

You smiled before glancing up at the clock on the wall. Pin was avoiding it. He was enjoying your company and the ticking hand felt like it was going too fast. Your eyes strayed to a family photo on the wall.

Are those your parents?” You asked, nodding towards the picture. He followed your gaze.

Yeah.” He replied. “My dad just went out to grab some essentials. He should be back soon.”

And your mum?”

Pin shifted in his seat, his face falling slightly.“She left us when I was five.”

“Oh.” Your face softened. “I’m sorry. That’s…that’s rough.”

“It was a long time ago. And I’ve got my dad.” He said but you could see the pain in his eyes. You sighed lightly and leaned forward.

“You know, in my experience, when people we love leave us, we look for reasons to blame ourselves. But we shouldn’t do that. The blame doesn’t lie with us.”

Pin looked at you, then and it was like there was some kind of deep understanding between the two of you. He smiled. “Thank you.”

You were interrupted by the sound of an engine outside and you both hurried over to the window. You recognised your father’s car, pulling the horse box behind for Faith. You took a step back, not realising Pin was so close behind. He placed his hands either side of you to stop you from stumbling. You felt a jolt of electricity.

“Sorry.” You said as you righted yourself.

“It’s fine. I’ll go and get Faith for you.” He said, making for the back door.

I’ll come with you.” You followed him out the door and around the back to a rickety old barn. Faith was tied up next to a golden brown stallion who she seemed to be getting along with. You chuckled. “This must be Elvis.”

He’s been my horse for such a long time. I can’t imagine riding any other.”

Yeah, I know what you mean. I’m at my best riding Faith.”

“I’d really like to see you ride some time.” Pin told you, to which you gave him a mischevious grin.

“Well, I’m sure you can when I see you at the stables.” You said as you untied Faith and began leading her out. “I’ll see you at Bright Fields.”

“You’re not going to Holloway?”

“Hmm,” you tilted your head. “I guess something changed my mind.”

You led Faith back around, leaving Pin in the barn but you looked over your shoulder, giving him one last smile. That night changed everything.

***

“I guess fate really did want me there that night.” You remarked. “Otherwise our story might never have happened.”

Pin smiled at the memory. “I think I knew right away that you were going to be important to me. Something about you caught my attention.”

You nodded. “For me, it was your kindness. I’d never met anyone with such a good heart. I don’t think I have since.”

“Even when we fight?” Pin asked.

You laughed. “Oh, I remember our fight when I thought I was losing you to Holloway. I was so scared we’d lost our way, then. I hated that.”

“Yeah, but you knew that wasn’t me. We found our way back to each other because of your strong-willed soul, refusing to let me lose myself.”

“And your kind soul.” You added. “You could tell my fear was just rooted in my love for you.”

Pin nodded at the use of that word. You’d both been eighteen when you realised you loved each other. Now, at twenty-three with your futures lying before you, he knew that it was you he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He squeezed your hand lightly.

“I do love you, Y/N. And it’s because of that I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately.”

You tilted your head. “OK?”

“I think I knew from that first night that there was some kind of string or rope between us, pulling us together, and it’s stood the test of time, we both know. I think it withstand an entire future together, too.”

“Where are you going with this, Pin?”

His hand strayed to his pocket again and he pulled out the tiny box, opening it to display the ring inside. Your eyes widened in surprise as he tried to remember the speech he’d rehearsed with his father.

“I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Y/N. Which is why I’m asking if you’ll make me really happy and say yes to marrying me?”

You were in complete disbelief but after a moment, you nodded. “Yes.”

“Yes?”

“Yes, Pin. I will marry you.” You laughed. The two of you stood and he threw his arms around you, swinging you around the kitchen in pure glee. “Careful, you’ll knock the table over.”

He finally set you down but continued to hold your hand. You smiled. “Thank you for asking me to marry you, Pin.”

“Thank you for saying yes.”

“We are going to have to tell the Bright Fields gang, they are going to go completely overboard.”

“Let’s maybe not tell them right away.”

“Agreed.

I’m Falling

Based on ‘Ocean Eyes’ by Billie Eilish

*********************

Pin had been looking at you for some time. There was something about you that drew him to you. Maybe it was the way your laugh drifted across the yard, light as a summer breeze. Maybe it was your positive energy, the way you smiled at anyone who crossed your path, making them feel as ease.

Or maybe it was your eyes.

Pin found himself looking at your eyes on more than one occasion. They were striking, beautiful, like the sun shining down upon the enigmatic ocean, catching the emerald waves. He was pretty sure if he looked too long, he would drown but it was OK with that. You were worth it.

He caught himself staring at you now when he was supposed to be unloading hay bales. He’d caught a glimpse of you across the yard, cleaning down your horse with the hose. Becky walked past and made some witty comment, making you laugh. It was like music to his ears.

He watched as you led your horse back into its stable, a smile playing on your lips. His stomach did a little flip, as it often did when he was around you. How could one person have such an effect on him? It really wasn’t fair.

“Will you just go and talk to them?” A voice startled him from his thoughts and he turned to see Zoe standing behind him, arms folded. “What’s the worst that could happen?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.

“I don’t know, they could laugh in my face?” Pin suggested, his insecurities getting the better of him. Zoe shook her head.

“I don’t think Y/N’s capable of that.” She assured him. “Go on, just see what happens.”

Pin tilted his head in thought before responding. “Alright, maybe I will.”

He made his way over to your stable where he could hear you softly talking to your horse. As if he needed another reason to like you even more. He reached the stall door and leaned against it. You were inside, giving the horse a quick brush down.

“Hi, Y/N.” Pin said. You looked up and when you saw him, you gave him a dazzling smile that reached those gorgeous eyes. His breath caught in his throat, as if he was seeing you for the very first time.

“Hey, Pin.” You replied. “What can I do for you?”

For a moment, he forgot why he’d come over here, too caught up in your eyes that were so bright they looked like they could contain fifteen flares. He quickly composed himself and scratched the back of his neck nervously.

“I was thinking…well, I was wondering…I…” Why was this so difficult? It seemed he couldn’t form a coherent thought when he was around you. As he sighed to himself, you couldn’t help but smile at how nervous he was. You liked Pin, you really liked him, which was why you decided to take matters into your own hands.

“Do you want to go for a ride?” You asked him with a grin.

Pin seemed relieved that you appeared to have read his mind, and he nodded eagerly. “I’ll go and tack up Elvis.”

***

“So, how come it took you so long to ask me to do this?” You asked him, the two of you riding through the forest. “Or, at least, prompt me to do it.” You teased him and you could have sworn you saw him blush. Did you really make him that flustered? It was hard to believe.

“I wasn’t sure if you’d say yes.” He confessed. “I was scared of being rejected by you, I suppose.”

You shook your head in disbelief. “Did you really think there was a chance I wouldn’t say yes to you? Pin, I’ve been wanting you to ask me out for so long.”

“You have?”

“I see you looking at me sometimes and it makes me think there may be a chance you feel the same way?”

Pin couldn’t quite believe that you were here in front of him, as good as confessing you had feelings for him. How many times had he imagined you saying these things? Now it was really happening. He smiled.

“I like you, Y/N. I really like you.”

The light danced in your eyes, probably making the sun envious at how brightly they shone. He felt butterflies dancing inside.

“So, what does this mean for us now?”

“I guess we’ll find out.”

***

That had been day one in your story. Ever since you had both admitted your feelings, you’d only grown closer and things were becoming more serious. You just wanted to make things official.

The two of you were walking along the beach, hand in hand, the cool ocean breeze surrounding you and the faint sound of gulls in the distance. This was your happy place, although you knew that could be stuck in a damp dungeon and still be happy as long as Pin was there with you. You smiled and glanced over to him.

“Hey, Pin.” You said to him. He looked up at you in question. “Is it OK if I call you my boyfriend?”

A huge smile spread across his face, as if he’d been waiting for you to say that for so long. “Are you sure we’re ready for that?” He joked, to which you playfully shoved him, making him chuckle.

“Do you not want to be my boyfriend?” You pretended to be offended but it was all in jest. Pin laughed before looking at you seriously, brushing his knuckles against your cheek softly.

“I would love to be your boyfriend, Y/N. Nothing would make me happier.”

You smiled, feeling happiness wrap around you just like the cold wind that now battered you. You shivered suddenly. Pin took off his jacket and wrapped it around your shoulders.

“Come on, let’s go back to my place. I have my laptop set up, we can watch a film or something.”

“Can I choose one?” You asked him, looking at him with those ocean-wild eyes. He shook his head.

“That’s not fair. You know I can’t say no to those eyes.” He said, although you knew if it was any other way, he still would have relented to you. Pin couldn’t say no to you, you were his ultimate weakness. He put his arm around you as you walked back to his place, the two of you a complete picture of happiness.

***

Six months later and the two of you were only becoming stronger. You lay on his bed now, resting your head on his shoulder as he traced patterns into the back of your hand. It was just the two of you but that was how you liked it. Pin knew he wouldn’t have it any other way, you were the one thing he was completely sure of.

“I love you, Y/N.” He told you now, causing your head to whip up, your eyes searching his. It was like a whole other world in those eyes, like you’d made friends with time and it agreed that the brightness would never dull. Pin never thought he could feel that way about anyone, yet here you were.

“You do?” You asked.

“I do.” He nodded. “It’s a little scary how quickly I fell for you, Y/N. Since the beginning, those feelings have only gotten stronger. I’m sure I’m always going to be falling for you, a little more every day.”

His words moved something in you, deep down. Leaning forward, you pressed your lips to his, carding your hands into his hair. He reached up to cup your face with one hand, his skin warm against your cheek. When you broke apart, you rested your forehead against his, a smile playing on your lips.

“I love you too, Pin Hawthorne. I think I always will.”

As you looked up at him, your words soaking into his skin, he was struck once more by how your eyes twinkled, like diamonds shining beneath the waves of the ocean, shimmering in the sunlight. Pin was completely willing to drown in them, he knew more than anything that you were worth it.

An uncertain kiss

***********

You were pretty certain that Sam was scheming today. Your lesson was meant to have been taken by Marcus but when you turned up to the arena that day, Pin was stood there waiting for you. Naturally, she would have given you the one person in the yard that you tended to freeze up around. The feelings you had for him were two months in the making and you generally lost sight of any cohesive thoughts around him. You sighed.

There wasn’t time for those feelings to get in the way today. You were attempting to break in one of the newer horses in the yard, a young mare called Luna, and the poor thing was still a little skittish. As you walked her into the arena, you whispered softly to her. “Please don’t show me up today, not in front of him. I need you to be on my side today.”

Luna gave nothing away, tossing her head as you made it to the centre of the arena. Pin greeted you with a smile, that same smile that made butterflies go wild in your stomach. You took a breath.

“Hi, Y/N.” He said. “You ready to get started?”

“Uh…I think so.” You stuttered a little, cursing yourself in your head. Even Luna snorted at you and you composed yourself. “I mean, yes. She’s been a bit scatter-brained recently. Can we take it slow today?”

Pin nodded. “Sure. You don’t need to worry so much, though. Anyone can see the bond between the two of you. You’ve got this.”

“Thanks.” You grinned. “What happened to Marcus, by the way?”

“He wasn’t feeling well today.” Pin explained. “I’ll try not to take offence that you’d rather have him.”

“No, I didn’t mean…” You trailed off as you realised he was joking. “Very funny, Hawthorne.”

He shrugged. “Have to keep you on your toes somehow.”

You climbed onto Luna and squeezed her into a walk, going through the motions with Pin. You’d already mastered walking and trotting but you were yet to work up to cantering. After a while, he gave you an affirmative nod. “I think you’re ready.”

“Are you sure?” You asked hesitantly.

“Y/N, you’re an amazing rider and I’ve been watching you with Luna. You can do this.”

You couldn’t help but smile at his words. Pin had a faith in you that was unshakeable. If he believed in you, then maybe you really could do it.

“OK.” You breathed, readying yourself to go into a canter. However, you didn’t quite get that far. From somewhere inside the yard, there was an almighty crash of someone dropping something and Luna spooked, taking off into a gallop. You cried out in shock as you attempted to cling onto the reins but to no avail. She was in such a fluster that she ended up throwing you off, and you landed on the ground with a thud.

You groaned as you slowly sat up and Pin was at your side in an instant. “Are you alright?” He asked, eyes scanning you for any injuries. You let out a chuckle. “Are you laughing?”

“I’m sorry.” You giggled. “I guess that’s one way to start cantering, right?”

Pin shook his head with a smile before helping you up. You hissed in pain and he glanced at you concerned. “What is it?”

“My arm.” You said, clutching it. “It really hurts.”

“Come on, let’s get you to the tack room so we can check it out.”

***

You came into the tack room and Pin sat you down. He sat beside you and gently rolled up the sleeve of your shirt to assess for any injuries. His hands were rough from all the yard work but somehow he was immensely careful with you. You studied him as he checked over you. After a moment of silence, he spoke.

“Doesn’t look too serious, I think it’s just a bruise. You’ll be fine in a few days.” He glanced up to you and noticed your gaze on him. “What is it?”

“Nothing.” You shook your head. “I just can’t believe this could have happened. I thought Luna and I had an agreement.”

Pin smiled lightly, a little confused. “Do we need to get you checked for a concussion, too?”

“No.” You laughed. “I just meant that I hoped she wouldn’t embarrass me in front of you. I tend to do that pretty well on my own.”

“What do you mean?”

You looked into his eyes again. Did he really not know? You figured your dignity was already in flames so the words slipped out of your mouth before you could really process them. “I like you, Pin.”

He searched your eyes for a second as the words settled underneath his skin. For a fleeting moment, you felt fear churn in your stomach. But then, he reached up to cup your face with his hand before leaning into kiss you.

You melted into him, his skin warm against his cheek. Then, all of a sudden, he pulled away and it was your turn to search his face. His face furrowed in concern. “Is this OK?” He asked.

You chuckled. “I just confessed my feelings and you’re asking me?”

He smiled before moving in to steal another kiss from you. This one was more confident as the two of you realised you both wanted it just as much. When he pulled away, he took your hand, lacing your fingers with his. “I should take your lessons more often.”

You nodded with a smile. “I’d like that.”

“Please don’t be mad.”

***************

It had all started a week ago. Pin had decided it would be funny to fill your locker in the tack room full of glitter. It had been a harmless prank, despite the fact that you had to brush glitter off yourself for whole day, and Pin had found the whole thing hysterical. That was the kind of relationship you had, always keeping each other on your toes. So, of course, you had retaliated.

The next day when he had left for the stables, you snuck up to his house and subsequently covered his room with party streamers. No surface was left untouched. It had taken you a while and just as you finished, he’d returned home, none too pleased to see what you had done. You couldn’t do anything but laugh at his steely glare. You knew he wasn’t really angry, Pin never got angry with you. But it did trigger a prank war between the pair of you.

***

A few days later, you’d been grooming your horse when Zoe had come up and asked you to go for a ride with her. You were good friends with Zoe so of course you said yes. The two of you went out along the beach before she suggested you ride through the forest and take the long way back. You’d fixed her with a raised eyebrow, suddenly becoming suspicious.

“Zoe, are you keeping me away from the stables?”

“What?” She’d said in a completely unconvincing tone. “Why would you think that?”

You sighed, turning your horse around. “What has he done now?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She shrugged.

You rode back to Bright Fields and dismounted just in time to see Pin coming out of your horse’s stable. As soon as he saw you, a mischevious grin crept across his face.

“Seriously, you roped Zoe into helping you now?” You said as you reached him. “What did you do?”

He continued grinning and shrugged lightly. “I have no idea what you mean.”

You walked past him and glanced into the stable. It was filled to the brim with balloons of all different colours. You groaned and rolled your eyes. “You’re an idiot, Hawthorne.”

“Well, I had to get you back somehow, didn’t I?” He chuckled. “I think the splash of colour adds a nice touch.”

You playfully shoved his arm and he laughed, skilfully wrapping an arm around you and pulling you into him, much to your light protest. “This is not over.” You told him.

“Hit me with your best shot.” He told you, kissing you on the top of your head.

***

Which is exactly what you did. You took a page out of his book and enlisted Gaby’s help in retaliating. She managed to get her hands on some horse-friendly unicorn paint and one morning, when Pin had been called away to the castle, the two of you snuck up to the house and into Elvis’ stable.

“How overboard are we going with this?” Gaby asked as she began braiding the horse’s mane. You knew she was completely invested in this, the girl loved to cause mayhem.

“Full on unicorn.” You nodded to her. “I think Elvis will rock the look.”

You set about doing up the paint, giving Elvis a complete make-over. You were really getting into it when you heard footsteps outside the stable. You exchanged a panicked look with Gaby, the two of you scrambling to grab the paint.

“He’s back early.” You hissed to her.

“Should we hide?” She asked hastily.

You didn’t have time to respond as Pin appeared in the stable doorway, catching the two of you in the act. He stood there for a moment in shock before he took in Elvis and groaned.

“Y/N, what have you done to my horse?” He asked you.

Please don’t be mad.” You replied. “You told me to hit you with my best shot.”

“Yeah, but now you’ve taken a hit at his dignity, too.” Pin came over to ruffle his mane, sighing at the braids. He glanced over to Gaby. “I see Y/N roped you in as well?”

“You have to admit, Elvis suits the whole unicorn vibe.” Gaby offered up, causing you to laugh out loud. Elvis looked completely ridiculous. Pin rolled his eyes at you.

“You just took the game to a whole new level.” He said, but there was light dancing in his eyes. The whole was in good fun and deep down, you couldn’t wait to see what he came up with next.

“Challenge accepted.” You answered.

Pin Hawthorne x Platonic!Reader

***************

You’re my favourite person.” + “You’re my best friend.”

********************

Today was the day. After two years of being away travelling with your family, you were finally returning to the island. You were travelling alone as your family had to remain behind but you couldn’t wait any longer. You could barely contain your excitement at the prospect of seeing everyone again. You’d kept in contact with them all and you were looking forward to seeing all of them, but one person in particular. Pin.

You and Pin had practically grown up together. The two of you had become friends when you were five, your own father being good friends with Ted. You would play together when you were children, before both of you catching the pony bug and taking up riding. Pin was your partner in crime, he was always there to cheer you up if you’d had a rough day and you were always there to defend him if anyone talked down to him. You’d missed him so much.

The ferry finally docked on the island and you all but flew of the boat, tumbling onto the pier and pushing through the crowds. Your eyes searched for that familiar face but instead you were met with the next best thing.

“Ted!” You exclaimed as you hurried toward Pin’s father, holding a sign with your name on it. You gave him a quick hug before glancing at the sign, grinning. “This is all very official.”

He chuckled. “It was Pin’s idea, actually.”

“Oh, yeah? Where is he?” You asked, a little disappointed that your best friend hadn’t come to meet you after two years. Ted seemed to pick up on your mood and gave you a comforting smile.

“Don’t worry, he’s back at home. He sent me to get you so he could surprise you.”

You couldn’t help but laugh. Of course he was surprising you, that couldn’t be any more Pin, especially after all this time. “Should I be scared?” You asked as you walked down the pier with him towards his car.

“He’s definitely gone all out.”

***

As you pulled up outside the rickety old house on the hill, a wave of nostalgia came over you. How many times had you played out here until the sun went down or careered down to the beach with the wind hitting your face? It was all so familiar to you. There was just one thing missing from the picture.

And then, there he was, coming out of the house at the sound of the car engine. He looked different to the last time you’d seen him but, at the same time, he hadn’t changed at all. He was still your best friend, still Pin.

You jumped out of the car and ran straight for him. At the sight of you, a huge grin spread across his face and you hurled yourself into his arms. He wrapped you in a tight hug, chuckling lightly. You almost didn’t want to let go, so happy that you were finally together again.

“Careful, Y/N, you’ll suffocate me if you hug me any tighter.” He laughed.

“I don’t care.” You replied. “I’m just so happy to see you.”

You finally pulled away and Pin wrapped an arm around, guiding you toward the house. “You’ve been gone way too long, we have a lot of catching up to do.” He said as you went indoors, making your way into the kitchen. You all but gasped at the sight. “That’s why I made your favourite dinner so we can sit and talk.”

“You did all this for me?” You said excitedly.

“Of course. You’re my favourite person, I wanted to surprise you.”

“Well, you’ve definitely succeeded.” You replied, your eyes twinkling. “What did I do to deserve such an amazing friend?”

Pin smiled at your words. “Afterwards I thought we’d go for a ride.”

“Along the beach, like we always used to?”

“Absolutely. And then up to the yard, I know the others are all looking forward to seeing you.”

You grinned. “Of course. I just had to see you first. You’re my best friend and I wanted to catch up with you first.”

Pin gestured to the table with a grin. “Let’s get started, then.”

Reader faints and Pin takes care of them

Warnings: Overworking, fainting

***********************

You had so much to get done. You were way behind on your yard chores and you had an essay at home that needed finishing, not to mention an evening shift at your part-time job. Things were so stressful and things were beginning to weigh down on you.

You were hastily brushing down your horse in its stable, quickly checking the time on your phone. “Wonderful.” You spoke to yourself. “I should have done this twenty minutes ago. This is a nightmare.”

“Hi, Y/N.” Your boyfriend appeared in the doorway of the stable.

“Hi, Pin.” You glanced his way with a smile before turning back to your horse, completely flustered.

“Everything OK? You look a little stressed.”

“Yeah, it’s fine.” You replied.

“OK, well, I was wondering if you wanted to go out tonight?” He asked you. “We could go for a ride?”

“Oh, I really wish I could, Pin, but I’ve got a shift tonight. After finishing this, cleaning my tack, sweeping the floor, finishing my essay and trying not to fall over at any point.” You told him, as you hurried around to brush the other side, stumbling a little in the process. You sighed as Pin stepped forward, steadying you.

“Slow down, you’re making me feel tired.” He said with a grin. “You’ve got time.”

“I wish that was true but I have no time today. I overslept this morning and since then I’ve been behind on everything.”

“Have you stopped to eat something today?” He asked, suddenly concerned. You shook your head. “You’re working yourself too hard, you need to take a break.”

“I’ll try and fit one in.” You said. “Somehow. I have to go but I’ll try and catch you later, yeah?” You said, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before hurrying away.

Halfway through sweeping, you began to feel a little light-headed. You straightened, feeling a pounding in your head. You set the broom down and slowly made your way outside, desperately trying to find somewhere to sit down for a moment. The dizziness grew worse as you moved and you clutched onto the door frame.

Pin was just coming out of one of the stables and he spotted you. You must have looked bad as he frowned and made his way over to you. “Y/N? Are you OK?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” You croaked out before you felt your legs buckle underneath you and your vision faded out.

You woke some time later to find yourself lying on your bed. Your head still hurt a little but you were able to twist it enough to glance around. Someone had made the bed as you hadn’t had time this morning and cleaned the mess you’d left behind. Suddenly remembering everything you had to do, you tried to sit up.

“Woah, woah.” Pin suddenly appeared by your bedside, holding a glass of water. “You need to take it easy. You did faint.”

“I fainted?” You asked, your voice a little hoarse.

“That tends to happen when you run around all day without eating or drinking anything. I told you to take a break.” He reminded you. “Here, drink this.” He handed you the water.

“Thank you.” You replied, sitting up slowly and taking a sip. “And I’m sorry, OK? I just had so much to do before my shift.” You groaned as you made to get up again. “Oh God, my shift.”

“It’s OK.” Pin placed a hand gently on your shoulder. “I called your manager and explained what happened, they covered your shift.”

“Were they mad?” You asked, holding a hand to your forehead to try and ease some of the discomfort.

“They were fine and they said you can make up the shift next week. You just need to focus on resting, right now.”

You nodded slowly, feeling some of the stress lift from your shoulders. “Thank you.” You said before noticing his crestfallen expression. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” He shook his head. “I was just worried about you. This was really serious, it scared me.”

“But I’m OK now.”

“I know, I just…I didn’t like seeing you like that.” He admitted.

You gave him a small smile, shifting over in bed before patting the spot next to you. “Come here.” He did as you said, coming over to sit beside you on the bed, wrapping an arm around you. You nestled into him, resting your head on his shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you like that. But I’m OK, now.”

“Just promise you won’t overwork yourself like that again. You don’t have to do it all alone, I could have helped.”

You grinned. “What would I do without you, Hawthorne?”

“Let’s hope you never have to find out.” He said as he pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
