I’ve received the seeds for the native plant workshop!one of them is #Purpleconeflower. Purple coneflower is a classic prairie flower that is easy to grow and drought tolerant. I have these in my front garden and leave their stems after to they’ve bloomed for the goldfinches.

~We all live with regrets. When we come to the fork in the path, do we pause? When faced with the paralyzing option, do we gather our regrets close; breathe in their bruised petal scent? Hear them whisper ‘trust’. Then let them scatter, like so many discarded flowers. We have learned all they had to teach. Step forward with last season’s sweetness fading on your tongue.
Purple coneflowers are one of the iconic prairie flowers. The bloom at the height of summer nourishing butterflies, bees and birds. They also have many medicinal healing qualities.
Fade into Purple Coneflower is 11x14" on wood panel. She is part of my prairie series and now available as the original and prints.

Ants stealing a nectar snack from a Fremontodendron at the gardens! I didn’t see a label for this tree (and don’t have a Jepson handy ), so it could well be any of the three species in the genus: F. californicum, F. decumbens, or F. mexicanum. Known as California flannelbush, F. californicum grows in a diverse range of habitats in California, Arizona, and Baja California. F. decumbens and F. mexicanum have much narrower ranges- they’re endemic to the Sierra Nevada foothills and the Peninsular Ranges, respectively, and are federally listed as endangered (F. decumbens is listed as F. californicum ssp. decumbens in ECOS). These stunning trees are cultivated as ornamentals, so this particular plant could even be a hybrid. #Malvaceae #Fremontodendron #flannelbush #nativeplants #plantnatives #california #wildflowers #floweringtrees #ornamentalplants #ranchosantaanabotanicgarden #botanicgarden #botanicalgarden #ants #nectar #orange #yellow (at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden)
