This was actually a really amazing experience. It was extremely painful for the majority of it I’ll admit, but worth it.
Designed and pierced by Mick Swan at Sacred Art Body Piercing, Newcastle.
The stencil for the positioning of the needles was put on first, then with 10+ people in the room which was really nerve-racking, Mick and I decided we may as well start. 10 needles, a break, 10 needles, a break, 15 needles, a break, then dealt with it and just did all the rest in one lot. It probably only took about 45 minutes maybe at most. I kept it in for about 4ish hours I believe, walking around the shop and watching suspensions being done.
Eventually and unfortunately, I had to get it taken out, which was a lot more painful that I expected it to be. I felt some of the needles bleeding out and run down my back which was a weird sensation, the ones that bled the most, bruised the most too. Its currently still slightly inky, and rather bruisey and achey, which came on today. Worth it though.
It made me realise a lot of things. At the age of 16, I’m accomplishing so many things I’ve wanted to do, I could have possibly died last year, and I’ve learnt to appreciate a lot more from it, and this was definitely one of them, an eye-opening experience. I don’t know many other people willing to put 60 needles in their back for something that is only temporary, someone called me something along the lines of a walking artwork, biggest compliment ever.
