As I was scrolling across Rakuten looking for kimono to post, I stopped dead in my scrollwheel tracks because this one just made me smile automatically.
I am so pleased with the background cream color, the soft salmon pink, bright traditional blood-red and olive-green, but best of all is the super-delicate wash of spring green that is designed to look like swirling water— but despite all these complimentary colors going on, the whole design looks super fresh, light and clean.
This motif heavily features chrysanthemums and maple leaves, but I also see some plum blossoms hiding in there– a very early spring motif, and the arches of sensu fans, which are also a fall or winter motif. This kimono is doing its best to play to all the cooler seasons, but it carries a breath of a clear summer day. Just imagine walking into a museum in the darker days of autumn wearing this kimono– you’d look like a little piece of sunshine!

I made a New Year’s congratulations-and-good-luck illustration for a friend and supporter of my creative habit. I wish him the best as he lives out his life’s purpose in Nicaragua.
I left the daruma eyes blank intentionally, and gave him the permission to color them in as a reminder to stay the course, be patient, and work to meet his goals.

Back in March, I met with Mia and Iona to have a picnic with the plum blossoms. As I am still avoiding trains and other crowded/closed spaces, I had to walk 3+ hours to get to the park and back, so that’s why I am wearing a style that would fit sneakers.
We stopped by Fru-Full Umegaoka to get fruit treats and pancakes for our picnic. Sadly, it was really windy that day, so we spent most of the picnic trying to protect the food from the dust. You can see how Iona had to help me detangle my hair from the branches because of the wind.

初めて人の死に触れたのは、14歳のとき。幼い頃から姉のように慕っていた幼なじみ（享年15）を。
18歳で祖父を見送った後は、後輩（享年19）、同級生（享年20）、従妹（享年19）、後輩（享年30）、従兄（享年35）と、同世代の近しい人たちを亡くしてきました。
2年前には同僚（享年42）を、そして先週、高校時代にとてもお世話になった先輩（享年45）を。
誰もが当たり前に明日を迎えられるとは限らない。
じーさんやばーさんになれるとも限らない。
色は匂へど 散りぬるを
我が世誰ぞ 常ならむ
有為の奥山 今日越えて
浅き夢見じ 酔ひもせず
一日一日の大切さが身に沁みます。
