Seed Bearer ~Not all pollinators are bees. The grace and glinting beauty of the great black wasp captivated me since I first saw one as a child. I loved to watch them, hoping for the moments when their wings shown iridescent blue. These large wasps are pollinators, feeding on nectar, and rarely stinging. With our current culture’s focus on bees it’s good to remember that all creatures have an intrinsic value beyond what is normally considered beneficial to us.
Seed Bearer reminds us that our wilderness, our wildness, and our lives are connected. Anyone can bear a seed, and anyone can be a seed.

Prairie Smoke ~To embrace wildness is to humble yourself. Nature has a way of roots and decay. A way of floating seed floss, and sticky seed burs. Seeds swallowed by blackbirds, seeds gathered by others. Seeds called by sunlight and cradled by moss. The prairie smoke, though tiny, sends her seeds far upon the breeze. You do not grow a prairie, but open your land to her wild hand, and a prairie may gather itself to you.
Prairie Smoke is one of my favorite prairie flowers. I love its enchanting wispy seeds and lacy leaves. This painting was shown at the Octagon as part of Prairie Seed Dreaming. It is now available. Link in bio.
