Ok, so I’m going to call this done… I’ve just spent the last hour and a half looking at it, scanning the surface, making judgement calls about the shapes of rocks, the subtle colour of reeds, that extraordinary orangery pop at the top/in the middle. I’ve come to the conclusion that I could tinker with it endlessly, but I’m not sure any of it would change the painting’s character. Whilst I had no intention of doing this, it seems that the last three paintings are the foundation of a series… #markthompson #thedailypracticeofpainting #contemporarypainting #postcontemporaryart #zincwhite #artoninstagram #artistsoninstagram #instaart #instaartist #landscapepainting #gamblinneomegilp #coldwaxmedium #available #proartebrushes (at Skintebo, Västra Götalands Län, Sweden) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuT0KGwB9F3/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11tsef0zhs6l3
There. Photographed (semi) successfully and colour checked. Thank goodness for Lightroom! thank you to the wonderful @proartebrushes for making, well, wonderful brushes.
Complete. This painting has been somewhat hanging over me for a while… started in earnest, let go of, restarted, put away, ignored, moved, ignored again… the revised, renewed and completed. The landscape - this landscape - has an ever present hand in my work, and whilst I don’t think it benefits my evolution as a painter to always be turned towards it, it stands to be re-engaged with when necessary. It’s a subconscious prompt. Photography nerd section: Sigma Art Lenses are razor sharp with no distortion whatsoever!

The early morning light is diffuse in the studio, and makes for ideal documentary photography! No extra lights needed and only a little Lightroom tweaking required… The Memory Palace 80 x 122cm Oil on wood 2018
