Rita Moreno Delivers ‘Hamilton’ Inspired Commencement Speech At Berklee (Latin Times):

Rita Moreno took the stage at Berklee College of Music last Saturday, only to rap her way through a commencement speech, which she says was inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit “Hamilton.”

Thelegendary Puerto Rican actress and singer addressed more than 900 graduates, their parents, and invited guests. “I am delighted to have been invited to celebrate with you on this really superb occasion,” Moreno began. “I’ve never taught a Master Class, but I’ve been a student for 84 years and I have learned a few things that I would like to add,” she continued.

Soon after, Rita’s speech broke into a rap song and the crowd began cheering. “The deeds, they figure into your success and hard work, and discipline. I’ll mention, you must have the audacity, the pluck, the grit, the perspicacity,” she rapped.

“Your talent may be terrific, your writing prolific; but do you have the motivation to use your creation for this generation?” she continued. “Live life with the clarity of who you are; your worth on earth.”

“It’s Mr. Hamilton that brought the rhyme to mind… Damn, I’ve seen that play three time,” she rapped as a tribute to Miranda.
