“they tried to kill each other” yes and? do you have a problem with true love

my unpopular (?) obx opinions

-barry did the right thing turning rafe in as he thought rafe would get the help he needed.

-sarah is allowed to be upset her dad “died”, he’s her dad. but she’s not allowed to be upset that john b and the pouges aren’t upset he literally ruined their lives.

-wheezie deserved better.

-kie’s mum should have been more understanding of why kie was so upset/acting out.

-mr and mrs hayward are the only good parents in obx.

-kie and jj aren’t compatible and i hope they’re not together in s3 especially as it reinforces the idea that girls and guys can’t be friends.

-also pope and cleo shouldn’t be together either it feels too forced they are mlm/wlw solidarity.

Rafe: *Brutally stabbing and killing people*

Barry: Let’s go baby! You put the cute in execute!

hi obx fans specifically rafebarry shippers. i have a new fic in the works and i need to know where is barry from canonically? i can’t find it anywhere. i’m not sure if it’s even mentioned but i have a feeling it was idk. anyway thank you for your help <3

Note: I’m so sorry it’s late, i had a panic attack at work yesterday and didn’t feel like writing. I’m also not sure about how Barry’s accent came out when writing. Also this isn’t the best fic I’ve ever written so if you like any of the characters/ships that my other fics are about pls give them a go :)

Masterlist

Pairing: Rafe Cameron x Barry

Summary: Rafe shows up at Barry’s uninvited again.

Word count: 1.1k

“How’d you know it was me?”

“It’s always you.” Barry retorted. He finally looked at Rafe noticing that he was shaking like a leaf, eyes glassy, blood drying under his nose and at the corner of his mouth, a bruise blossoming across his left cheek.

“I didn’t know where else to go.” He looked like he was about to pass out and before Barry could even acknowledge the statement he did just that. Rolling his eyes and picking Rafe up and unceremoniously dropping him on the couch that had seen better days. “What am I gonna do with you?” The question rhetorical. Rafe answered with with groan. Barry went to the bathroom to get the first aid kit. “Hey, c’mon man you gotta help me out ‘ere.” His words were accompanied by light tapping to Rafe’s cheek. His attempts were met with another groan. “Rafe.” That got his attention. Barry never called him Rafe.

“I’m awake, I’m awake.”

“I’m awake, I’m awake.”

“No you ain’t, but I gotta clean you up okay?”

He was met with a light “hmm” before Rafe was passing out again. Barry got to work cleaning the cuts on Rafe’s face. Once finished he tried to get Rafe into a more comfortable sleeping position before giving up, throwing a threadbare blanket over him and tucking a cushion under his head. He then returns to his room. Barry ignored his quickened heartbeat returning to normal the further he got from Rafe’s sleeping form.

Rafe awoke with a start, relaxing when he looked around the uncomfortably familiar room. “Mornin’ Country Club.” Barry greets from the kitchen.

“Hello Barry.”

“Are you gonna tell me why you showed up at my place in the middle of the night?”

“No.”

“What?” Raising his eyebrows. “You’re ‘ere more than you’re at yo daddy’s house. So you better tell me what the fuck you’re doing ‘ere.”

“I can’t tell you cos I don’t know man. I just woke up here.”

“Ight well can you tell me who caved your face in?”

“Nah not a clue.”

“Ima take a guess prolly your daddy ay.” At that Rafe made to stand up angrily but was quick to sit down again as a wave of dizziness hit him.

“You okay?”

“I feel like shit Barry”

“Go take a shower, there should be enough hot water i’ll put some clothes in my room for you to change into.”

When Rafe entered the kitchen a short time later there was some coffee on the table with a note.

“It’s definitely not at fancy as the coffee at Tannyhill but hope it’s not too cold, I had to rush to the shop. Don’t you dare go through my shit while I’m gone.”

-Barry

Rafe caught himself smiling and stopped, Barry was his dealer. A little voice in his head whispered “friend”. Rafe was quick to silence it. He sipped his coffee, the sound of the early morning filtered through the open windows, the birds singing, waves crashing and the faint laughter of people out for a morning surf. With that he then begins to ponder what to do whilst Barry was gone. Surely turning on the elderly tv didn’t count as “going through” anything.

Barry returned a couple of hours later. “Sorry about that Country Club, some of the guys needed my hel-what are you doing?” Rafe turned around sheepishly.

“I got bored.”

“I told you not to go through my shit.”

“In my defence I didn’t it was on the top of the pile.”

“God I leave you alone for two hours and you manage to do the one thing I told you not to do.”

“It’s actually quite good.” Rafe replies putting down Barry’s copy of Secret Water on the coffee table. A book he was given on his 10th birthday by a dismissive aunt. It was one of the books that sparked his love for reading, he assumes that’s why he kept it. Rafe looks somewhat apologetic, well apologetic by Rafe’s standards anyway. Only then does Barry notice that even though Rafe is taller than Barry, his clothes look too big for him and a little spark of possessiveness lights before it’s extinguished quickly by the shaking of his head.

Barry asks instead. “Have you eaten?”

“I thought I wasn’t allowed to and I quote “go through” your shit.”

“No one has ever told you to shut up have they?” At that Rafe stops himself from saying the retort on the tip of his tongue.

“My dad, all the time.”

“Oh I’m sorry. Ya know I didn’t mean nothing by it. C’mere.” Barry sits down, holding his arms out for Rafe to crawl into. He knows that Ward Cameron is a touchy subject with Rafe. “‘m sorry.” Barry mumbles into Rafe’s hair. “It’s gonna be alright, you can stay here for as long as you need, okay?”

“Mmm” Is Rafe’s reply. “Thank you Barry.” or at least that’s what Barry assumes he says as Rafe’s face is pressed into Barry’s neck and his reply is muffled.

Later that night when Rafe has calmed down and isn’t stressing about Ward, Barry is on the couch rolling a joint and Rafe is in the kitchen getting some beer. Rafe places Barry’s beer on the coffee table.

“Thanks love.” Barry greets placing a kiss on Rafe’s forehead before getting up to grab a lighter, he seems to have misplaced the metal one with the compass engraving so goes to his room to grab a shitty plastic one. Rafe is left on the sofa in shock and does what Rafe does best. He takes a long drink of his beer, goes to light the joint realising that’s why Barry left. Meanwhile Barry gets to his bedroom to retrieve a lighter just as he’s picking it up he freezes realising what he has just said.

When Barry hasn’t returned in the next five minutes and his bedroom light is still on Rafe goes to check that he’s okay. He finds Barry sat on his bed lost in thought.

“Barry, Barry, BARRY.” He’s shaken from his thoughts by Rafe calling his name.

“Yeah, yeah ‘m listening.” He replies slightly dazed.

“Have you got the lighter?”

“Yeah, c’mon then.”

They file back to the living room. Barry goes to light the joint.

“Fuck it.” Before Barry has time to be surprised Rafe is kissing him. The joint, beer and TV forgotten in the background. Rafe breaks the kiss. “Oh my god I’m so sorry I don’t know what I was thinking.” It’s Barry’s turn to surprise Rafe with a kiss.

“Shut up Country Club.”

Only a matter of time. Barry knew that, had known it since he’d seen Rafe’s dead-eyed mugshot on the local news above the headline “CAMERON SON GOES FREE.” They’d released a rabid, raving animal back into the world like it was nothing. Like he wouldn’t go straight to Barry’s place with the intent to kill.

Rafe tries acid for the first time and has a bad trip. Barry is there to help him through it.

Rafe gets wasted on his birthday and winds up the only place he ever really wants to be.
