so I’m reading an older fanfic, where the author has put Logan in charge of memories, rather than Patton’s nostalgia-filing. (this wasn’t unusual at the time, judging from my reading.) which got me thinking about overlap- back when I was just starting to get really into Sanders Sides, I started a Venn Diagram of how the sides interacted; where they stood and how that related to how they related to eachother. it wasn’t great, and I abandoned it, love of venn diagrams and brightly colored rainbows aside.

since we’re dealing with anthropomorphicacations of a comprehensibly narrow aspect of personality, it would make sense that there would be places where their duties overlap, and honestly I think actual memory would be one of the biggest places.

You purposefully put things in your memory with logic and reasoning; nostalgia, as we’ve seen holds on to memories laced with feelings and emotions. related to that intense emotions of all kinds will do that, fear, shame, anxiety, etc, which bleeds into miss remembering things, as your creative mind remembers things differently than what actually happened as though it actually did- but the arts appreciative creative brain will also store away bits of dialogue from books and movies, snatches of songs; not a lot of organization but a lot of congress with the memory; not to mention how creative methods are used to purposefully  retain information that you’re trying to learn.

Patton’s room might be nostalgia central, but the actual memory? That’s shared space. Everyone contributes to the memory archives.

So there’s a fanworks charity auction in aid of Ukraine running and I signed up.

If interested, you can bid on me here or browse other offers here. Bids close on May 30

Though I mostly write Star Wars fic under this pseud, I’ve written for two decades in fandoms huge (LOTR) to medium (Austen, LMM) to tiny (several Yuletide-sized book fandoms). I’m not a fast writer, but I’m reliable; I have yet to default on an exchange commitment.

This is a bit nerve-wracking because I’ve never done an auction before, but I’m very excited and really keen to work with my bidder to develop a story that’s just what they were hoping for! (And the worst that can happen is no-one bids, in which case I’ll donate the money myself.)

Friendly reminder that George Weasley probably left at least half of his sentences unfinished out of habit

I saw one of my friends doing a challenge to draw a fox every day and I think I’m going to jump on this because foxes are my favorite animal. I’m probably not going to do every day because I want to make sure I work on painting, too, but I’ll try at least some of the themes. I’ve never drawn anything other than realistic by looking off photos, so it’ll be a challenge to do fantastical things. Maybe by the end of the month I’ll be better at drawing creatively.

I sketched this out on drawing paper then traced it onto bristol for coloring in. The photo lost some of the shading, but that’s okay. I think it’s maybe the second time I’ve drawn a fox and the fourth animal total, so I’m really happy with this. I especially like how the eyes turned out. (Since I’ve been drawing as an adult, I mean. As a kid I obviously drew animals, so call it my fourth animal in the last 25 years lol)

Sharing this here because I’m super proud of how this drawing turned out

Today I finished up the galaxy painting from the other day using my writing world’s constellations. Or the ones that fit in the circle, anyway.

I’m not happy with this ink, though, and I have a feeling I got a bad bottle from the craft store. I see people using this brand of ink all the time and it works for them, whereas if I do it thin it doesn’t show up at all and if I do it thicker it sucks up the paint from under it and changes color completely. (The white is more pink than it looks on the picture.) It’s like it’s too watery. I’ve had problems with clay from the craft store being old and hard, so I have the sneaking suspicion this is an old bottle, especially since when I got it, the eyedropper was clogged with dry ink. I suppose it could be because I don’t have the best quality watercolor, but I doubt that would make the ink go clear. But at least it looks okay in the photo?

Reblogging this here because it’s another painting I did of my writing world’s sky. :)

I’m so happy with how this painting turned out today! I did an online lesson to learn this one. I honestly didn’t think the masking fluid would work this well on my paper, considering it’s just a cheap Canson pad. After stuggling so hard with negative space yesterday, I love masking fluid much more because at this point it’s much easier to do. I did mess up my old brushes with it, though, so I think I might buy a pen thing for it. I’m glad I listened to the lesson and used old brushes, though!

We were supposed to experiment with it to take advantage of the masking fluid, so I splattered gold ink at the top. (I couldn’t really capture the shine in the photos.) At the bottom I used Epsom salt to get a texture since I’ve been wanting to try that out, too. The last picture is what it looked like as it was drying, with the salt and masking fluid still on it.

Reblogging this particular art because I really love how it turned out. :-)

Today I did two watercolor lessons again, so I’m doing good at this painting everyday thing! One was a continuation of layering shapes and color bleeding, although I was doing it more for the color bleeding because this is something I struggled with yesterday when I couldn’t go fast enough keep the paint wet enough. Today I switched to using a brush pen and that helped immensely. The reason it’s only the top of the page is… well, I got bored painting triangles after doing a bunch of circles yesterday.

The second lesson was on practicing painting around edges in a controlled way. I think I want to try this again because I struggled because I kept trying to keep the blue paint liquid enough to blend. In hindsight I should have used the pens for this, too. I don’t know if it’s just me being a beginner or if it’s my paints or my watercolor paper but dang does it feel like this dries fast. I think I need to try doing the painting around edges thing again without worrying if the background is drying.

I’m going to try to do a painting a day and I realized I should be sharing these to my art Tumblr when I put it on Instagram. I won’t reblog unless it’s something cool, though. Today is just a heads up that I’m using my art account again, too, I guess lol
