Um … hi.
My uh … my name is uh … well you can um call me Fennec and I um … help people.
My um dad was a strong man and he um used his powers to try and keep all kinds of um, things from hurting people and he um … he did a lot of good.
My brother and I we uh we were his newest kids and he um taught us how to use our magic and showed us how to um harness our uh, our gifts.

My brother was a uh a good fighter and he liked using poles and um long staffs or staves. My big brother was always watching over me, he even taught me how to really protect myself.
Our mom was a human and she died after giving birth to me, but sometimes she appears in my um, my dreams and she sings to me.

Dad said that she uh, always watched over me and um, that I could always count on her protection when he wasn’t around.

So uh, one day a Realm Breaker found and killed my dad, and he wanted to get me too, but big brother protected me and I managed to get away.

Well after a few years I decided to stop hiding and instead take it upon myself to uh, help people and make this a better world for all of us.
I wouldn’t hide and cry anymore, mom wouldn’t want me hiding, neither would my big bro.

But one day a scary group of people found out about me and sent men to hunt me down. I was so scared, I thought that they were going to hurt me.
But then one of them came up to me without any of his weapons and we sat down and just talked for hours. He was really sweet and he even told me about his daughter, he told me how they needed my help to make the world a better place.
And so I decided to help his company whenever they needed me.

Well just a few months ago he showed up again, he came into my home and gave me a warm hug and asked all about my life since we last met. We drank tea and watched the snow fall, all the while I noticed that he was older.
Soon he wouldn’t be strong enough to fight anymore, and the world needed him, maybe more people like him.

He asked me if I could help him find magical warriors to fight his battles and I told him that I would do it.
He was shocked and I stood up, looked him in the eye and said, “I am a proud and strong woman and it’s about time I use my abilities to fight instead of hide.”
He just laughed and shook my hand.

So … uh … yeah.
Here I … uh here I am.
Sorry … I got all fired up there at the end.
Just … whenever I talk about him and uh …
Don’t write that last part.

But here I am, I’m here to fight. For the first time in my life I won’t hide, I won’t be scared.
I’m going to be a hero just like my family.

We are always recruiting! Adult and junior skaters and referees! We even have non skating positions open: coach, announcer, and what is known as an NSO - Non Skating Official. NSOs help with game jobs: score keeping, various penalty jobs, jam line up, jam timer, all of which are vital to running a game. If you’re interested, send us a message or come to practice!

“it is a wonder that men selected and packed off to war in this way … should ever have stood their ground at first musket fire.” - Stephen J. Stearns, ‘Conscription and English Society in the 1620s’
.
The historical record focuses much more on men who were forced to fight in the wars of the 17th Century than those who volunteered willingly, and so the view of military service in the Civil Wars is usually a negative one. This seems obvious in view of the account of the desperation that could drive one man to cut his own throat or another to cut off his own toe to avoid service. Men seized by recruiting partiesn for both sides were herded together and imprisoned before being marched off for minimal basic training and almost certain injury or death — the time-lapse between recruitment and action could be as little as three days. Desertion was a constant problem for armies relying on impressment, particularly Parliament’s “newly modelled” army, which was perennially short of both men and pay. Stories of almost half the impressed men who fought at Naseby fleeing the field or deserting soon after paint a vivid picture of unwilling recruits, unprepared for action. This image is sharply contradicted by reports from European sources, who noted English hardiness in war, and praises English and Scottish armies for their courage and resilience. As always, every soldier had his own story and this moment in history between the 'patronage’ armies of the medieval period and the professional armies of the late 17th Century onwards reveals so much about the many and varied reasons why men would march to war.
