I feel like Ikki is less “self worth” and more “egoism”, healthy and unhealthy parts of it.
Daiji is clearly envy and Sakura’s not just weakness, but desire to be protected.
The siblings need therapy hard.
Oh yeah, this was definitely the pared-down meme-y version of it (as well as, in Sakura’s case, how she describes it herself), but I do find it fascinating how each devil is really just something that each sibling has repressed hard.
In Ikki’s case, it’s caring about himself at all - in the name of rejecting egotism, selfishness, call it whatever you like - that’s been shoved down the priority list over and over, in favor of everyone and everything else in his life, until that complex grew into a devil. (And so his devil is selfishness, a bit of a hedonist really, but ultimately, the very main thing is - he cares about Ikki.)
In Daiji’s case, I’d say he’s repressing not just envy but any negative feelings about his family at all, trying to be like his ‘perfect’ older brother who everyone loves - but he can’t shove himself down the priority list like Ikki does, can’t wholeheartedly support everyone else to the exclusion of himself to gain their love. In the background, resentment builds; his clear pattern of black-and-white thinking does not help. He can’t be a gray mix of positive and negative, he must be all positive, or else he’s not good. (And so his devil becomes the most split-personality-like of them all, as well as not only being born of self-loathing and every negative feeling but actively seeking these things out.)
Sakura, meanwhile, is a child, but more unfortunately she’s a teenager. Her repression’s only half-formed at the start, and part of it’s probably one a lot of teenagers might share: she wants to be an adult, to be taken seriously, right now, so anything childish must be shoved away. Add in her need to be not only an adult but a strong adult, one who can fix everything she sees wrong in the world, and quickly any 'weakness’ must be rejected and repressed as well. Hers is the simplest and possibly the least unhealthy (though that’s not saying much); her devil, likewise, is the weakest and least dangerous - unless Sakura chooses to use her weaknesses as weapons, which is an interesting little twist to think about.
