Rupert Everett, Stephen Fry, Patrick Stewart, and Richard White were considered for the role of Governor Ratcliffe in Pocahontas. The role was originally given to White, but afterwards the filmmakers feared that audiences would not be able to separate his distinctive voice from that his previous villain, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast. He was replaced with David Ogden Stiers, who ended up also voicing Wiggins in the film.
