This is my painting SOMNAMBULANT from 2012. This animated version has been created by the outstanding animator, @m4wave. This painting is inspired by dreams, sleepwalking, and hypnagogia. (see previous post) I began sleepwalking when I was around 8. For that, my parents sent me to a shrink who taught me to remember my dreams. That was the beginning of my interest in dreams. ☠️

This is a small painting I just finished. (Title: ‘DUST’ - 13 x 13") for an exhibition of historical and contemporary ‘Memento Mori’ paintings and sculpture at the MUSKEGON MUSEUM OF ART in Muskegon, Illinois. The exhibition is Titled ‘UNDYING TRADITIONS: MEMENTO MORI’* The exhibition will run from December 19, 2019 through March 29, 2020.
* About Memento Mori: The Memento Mori (which translates to 'remember death’) is a Medieval Latin Christian philosophy that encourages reflection on mortality, on the inevitability of death, and the transience of mortal pleasures and accomplishments. While most familiar to Western audiences through the art traditions of 17th century Europe, the memento mori appears across multiple cultures from around the world, from the Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians to the early Buddhists.

“Starry Diplocaulus” 12 x 16 in. The Diplocaulus is an ancient extinct amphibian. There are fossils showing the shape of the head, (Which for some reason has always fascinated me) and basic structure, but no one really knows about the color or body markings.

This is ‘MICROVERSE 1’ My painting from 2014. Several elements from this piece, (like the winged creatures) were taken from previous paintings, and newly developed ones, (like the flower snail, lower left) were used again in subsequent paintings, in an ever evolving collection of my personal visual vocabulary. I persistently draw upon elements that I’ve developed in previous works to help me make new paintings.

This is my painting from way back in 1994, “STRAY THOUGHTS”. In 1995, Les Claypool used it for the cover art for the album “Riddles Are Abound Tonight” for his band “SAUSAGE”, . It was blown up to the size of a giant billboard at TOWER RECORDS in San Francisco

10 years ago I was doing work like this: The painting is titled “ANTAGONY” as in “antagonistic.” As in, “hostility, anger, aggressiveness, belligerence. Like the world actually is.

Back in 2007 I was commissioned to create a painting that was also to be a TATTOO. It’s painted to form perfectly with the contours of the buyers spinal column and back. Precise measurements were taken so that the designs work perfectly with his bone structure. The title became “SPINAL TOTEM.”

Finding the “zone “ in my studio takes awhile, but when i get there, there’s no place I’d rather be. This is where I make the worlds in my imagination come alive.
This is a section from my most current, (Unfinished as of 3/5/2018) painting. I like to create environments in my paintings that the viewer can get lost in. Each time you view my work, there’s a chance you’ll see something that you didn’t notice before.

Dead Boys Dream ~ 2016 - 14 x 14 in. (35.6 x 35.6 cm.) … Something a bit different from my average subject matter. For several years I have avoided depicting humans in my paintings. I like this one because I think including the child adds a touch of mystery.
