Well, since I am bored and waiting on someone, and the wonderful @konako had instigated, let’s do a little thought experiment with some eye candy for the soul. The question on the docket is “What Ruby outfit as The Gayest?”, and as I have posed in the replies one distinction has to be made. A difference between appearance and incitement i.e. Gay Looks vs Gay Thirst. So let’s rephrase:
Which of the outfits worn by Ruby Lucas either pings the Bi-dar or Thirst-dar?
The funny thing is, it appears to be that Ruby goes from one to the other at least once every episode she’s in. At least, in the first 2 seasons. One scene and she’s a queer friend to go to brunch with, the next – help, I need a fan to stop myself from fainting. There’s no in-between. Let’s examine the evidence, in no particular order.
(Good thing I have a whole collection of 0uat sacreencaps for… very scientific fanfic purposes.)
1. Bi-dar *ping* Some sort of jeans shirt, bracelets, very friendly and very queer, definitely a ping there. (Talking about messy eating the pancakes does not count! Get ya mins out of the gutter! xD)
But then earlier, from the same episode we had…
2. Thirst *ping*.Wowza. Gorgeous.

That’s a Thirst*ping*,absolutely. Look at that perfectly sculpted face. But then she goes and puts on a jacket that looks like plaid and that’s definitely a Bi-dar*ping*
4. This one is probably the most obvious Bi-dar*ping* out of all of them. Because flannel.
But at the same time, there are leather pants and studded buts and it’s kinda like that meme. Above the waist: “Hello Sir, It’s Nice To Finally Meet You” Below the waist: “Ya Daughter Calls Me Daddy Too”. So maybe Both? This is getting more complicated.

Outfit from the pilot is 100% Thirst*ping* That was probably the whole point, but they got scared at the last second and gave her a scarf to obscure the sheer shirt.

This one *pings*the Bi-dar very loudly. Whatever fur jacket thingie this is, it’s exceptionally queer. Also a basket with treats for a sick friend, delightful.

Another variation on the same theme. Bi-dar*ping*of course. Fingerless gloves, ripped jeans, another furry jacket of sorts. Yep.

That’s the one @thegirl20 already mentioned. The fingerless gloves make a reappearance. Plus a washed out, oversized a bit tee and a leather vest. Some dress queer to the nines, Ruby dresses queer to elevens.

Ah, yes. Another one that Bi-dar*pings*loud and clear. Another washed out tee, jean shorts over pantyhose and booties plus this leather shirt thing with long tails. Very queer, just to make sure everyone around gets the message. But there’s also…
THIS. Just a little later. Standing up to magicked up Regina when everyone else cowers and shouting “What do you want?!” Dayum, that kinda turns the outfit around and gives it the Thirst*ping*I’m beginning to notice a pattern here.

Nice, very much Bi-dar*ping* Not many can pull this sort of dress? shirt? whatever off, but Ruby definitely does. And then. Once again, she turns around and does the thing.
Thirst*ping*.I’m dead, I’m gone. Too late for an ambulance, I have already soared towards heaven. Those pants, the shackles, the long hair, the confidence and in a jail cell… Sigh. Speaking of those pants…

Thirst*ping*.This is the sort of look that will follow you, imbed into your brain and boil it until you combust. The pants are the star again, but also that hair and those open arms and, um yep. I mean, COME ON! Why does no one else on fire in that dinner anyway? Unrealistic. In real world half of ‘em all would be slain on the spot. But we know the pattern, so what does Ruby do just a little bit later?
She puts on a studded jean jacked on top! Bi-dar*ping*.
Incredible. That’s pretty much the thing with her. Or with the costume department. Ruby flips between the two modes on a whim. Like, when she returned in later season, she managed to ping both Radars at the same time:
Sheer blouse, a giant pendant and then standing against the doorframe with one food like that! That’s both pings loud and clear.
Anyways, I do not have any sort of a conclusion, I hope no one expected such. I was just bored and waiting on someone and the opportunity to gush over a favorite character presented itself – who am I to resist?
I guess, the conclusion of sorts is that Ruby was very Bi all the time and extremely gorgeous all the time. And the costume department was possibly confused most of the time.
