#ruffed grouse
“Autumn Grouse” Ruffed Grouse. 8"x10" oil on panel.
This fluffy fella was painted for and donated to auction for the Ruffed Grouse Society in PA last November, to aid in their habitat work. As an exciting twist, they had me finish the painting in person at the banquet, with the signature going on just before the auction! I was a bit nervous to have bird enthusiasts and biologists peering over my shoulder as I wrapped this one up, but it was a wonderful experience. The backdrop is based on the “grouse woods” we have local to where I live, which is often mixed successional forests. I was honored to get a thumbs up from the society’s regional biologist, Dr. Ordiway!
