thinking about finally getting to see all of the sailor sailor animamates brought to life for the first time and praying that we get to see every senshi have a final transformation sequence
Just before the end I arrive to post something for mermay. Sailor Mercury has always been my favorite as a little girl and I couldn’t wait to draw her!
Moonies, because I love you very much, I come bearing gifts! I have edited a high-res textless version of the Sailor Moon Cosmos poster, and two wallpapers featuring its artwork - one for phone lockscreens, and one for ultrawide (!) monitors!
Anyway these are one big, fantastic analysis on the stars arcs in the manga and the anime!
Those who know me know I live more in the manga than the OG anime, because I have my own personal qualms with some of the choices the animators made (which, truthfully, are not specific to this post, so, whew!)
However!
That doesn’t automatically make the manga/Crystal better than the OG anime, or any other version of SM. And preferring one version of this story isn’t bad.
You prefer the OG anime? Huzzah! There are certainly a lot of elements I still enjoy, and it got me into the fandom when I was a young teen, so I will always be grateful for that.
You prefer the manga? Huzzah!
You prefer Crystal? Huzzah!
You prefer PSGM or the Musicals? Huzzah!
The important thing here is that we all love the fandom, whatever that version (or all of them!) happens to be. One version isn’t inherently better than the other; it just boils down to personal preference. It is possible to express that preference without being degrading to the other versions, insulting the fans of your non-preferred version, or without stepping on others’ joy.
I saw a lot of this during the OG Anime vs Crystal debates. A lot of the complains about Crystal (inconsistent animation of the first 2 seasons aside) usually boiled down to preference for the OG anime, so Crystal was called “bad” simply because it wasn’t the 90′s anime.
Crystal wasn’t trying to be the OG Anime - the OG anime already did that - and the two really can’t be compared for all the reasons expressed in @sailormoonandme’s analysis.
I hope we can all come together and appreciate that we are getting more Sailor Moon content!

Like. I swear half of my daydreamy battle inspirations are drawn from this formative place of when I was young and read about Usagi having to face this battle alone in friggin SPACE. AND SHE DID IT.
(And yes I am an absolute weirdo but one of the scenes I’m most looking forward to is that super angsty torturous scene where Galaxia uses Mamoru’s body as a puppet for her battle because the TRAGEDY of Usagi having to go through Evil Endymion AGAIN.)

The scene on Sagittarius Zero Star, when Mamoru steps through the doorway as Tuxedo Mask, and Usagi sees him for the first time in forever but hasn’t yet realized what he is….

This arc is the culmination of Usagi’s growth as a senshi. We’ve already watched her grow from a self-proclaimed cry baby into a warrior, but here we will watch her grow into a warrior who ENDURES.
This arc is all my angst Sailor Moon dreams come to life, and I am HERE for it.

This this this this this. I will scream this to the hills – Stars is the culmination of Usagi’s growth. Shit gets real. And she hides her pain and steps up and is someone her first season self would never believe she could be.

I love the growth she gets in both versions, her evolution into neo queen Serenity

I’m nervous that it’s 2 films again. All of crystal cut too much content, and I thought the eternal films would be fine adapting the shortest arc, but it still cut stuff and didn’t get the run time it deserved. Plus I feel like sailor moon does better with an episode format in general. I’m really hyped though. I’m still holding out hope for them to adapt the side story vollumes later and code name sailor v. But that feels unlikely unless we get another reboot in the future.
Edit. But this trailer had me in tears again. Lol I have ptsd from the manga arc and stars. I cried for joy with the eternal films too lol
It’s happening! But unfortunately it’s only 2 films again. Why can’t they give sailor moon the attention it deserves? The eternal movies were great, but even adapting the Mangas shortest story arc, they cut a decent amount of content. Like even with crystal 1-3 and a season format they cut material. And sailor moon is designed for expansion in the anime, not less of the story being adapted. Not to mention we have some great side stpries that should of been adapted.
Plus honestly sailor moon does better with a season format considering its plotlines are broken up for episodes while it builds to the final conflict.
I’m absolutely excited. But this process of adaption continues to baffle me considering what a cash cow and iconic franchise the series is. I guess we’ll probably never get a codename sailor v adaption at this rate. Unless they decide to reboot the anime in another decade or 2
