SCP 049 Having a Crush on Reader Headcanons…

Warnings: featuring 035 being manipulative (as usual), mention of carcasses, mention of surgery, 049 falling in love :’)

In spite of his Keter-level classification, 049 hardly acts how you’d expect a potentially world-ending SCP to act when they’re in love.
The fact that he can fall in love at all is miraculous to you.
It doesn’t much matter how 049’s attraction came to be; given his mentality, it could be any obscure reason.
All that matters is when.
O49 doesn’t just invest his interest into anyone; never mind give them his heart.
He’d have to have known you a good while before he allows himself to feel at ease around you.
You’d have to be a very unique kind of person to capture 049’s interest.
This eases into a natural progression of attraction, which occurs only when he feels he can trust you more than anyone else.
Once he realises his feelings for you (and after a long talk with 035 after he wouldn’t stop pestering 049 about why he seems so shy around you) he’ll do everything in his power to try to shut them out.
Although he can’t deny the sensation of butterflies in his chest is a nice change from the barren void that usually manifests there.
And he’ll do rather well at ignoring his feelings until he sees you during interviews or other circumstances possible within the Foundation’s walls.
Your smile would melt him, making him lose all composure.
It’s after he finds that this is absolutely unavoidable that he begins to accept his feelings.
He thinks it’s the only way he can stop feeling as if he’s harbouring such a huge secret and stop feeling flustered around you.
He and 035 definitely have gossip sessions about you, though not in a malicious sense.
035 offers to charm information out of you for the low, low price of 049 having to help him during the next breach.
049 resents the idea at first - or rather, resents the fact that he finds 035’s idea appealing.
But he caves soon after, allowing 035 to do what he does best - on the term that 035 isn’t allowed to possess you.
Given 035’s charisma, he can extract information from you nobody else could, which he feeds back to 049, which 049 then uses to make you like him back.
Or tries to, at least.
He can’t help but memorise all your little likes and dislikes, adopting them as his own.
While he’s in his cell, 049 thinks about you incessantly.
In fact, Foundation staff have noted that 049 seems distracted even while performing surgeries on carcasses - something he usually grants his utmost attention to.
Of course, when questioned about this, he reveals nothing.
But the staff are skeptical.
He wouldn’t tell you why he’s been slipping up, either (that is, if you ever asked).
Not yet.
One day he’ll reveal the true extent of his feelings for you.
But he wishes to save that for when he can lead a life outside the Foundation.
Whether it takes a day or a hundred years, 049 does not mind waiting.
He is a patient being.
