#seppuku
so i think i heard asagi-iro was a color that samurai wore for seppuku somewhere….or at least something along those lines and i’ve been confused because i always thought it was just white
but now i’m going through episodes for photo sets and in 38 the attire has a blue tint to it??
idk if i’m imagining things or if its the light but i never noticed before
id check to confirm with the other one but idk how much of a coward i am XD
i checked in ep 33 and it looks the same btw
Rankin in his book on Seppuku says that indeed light blue was preferred, although no colour was actually really enforced. Satow’s famous eyewitness account of Taki Zenzaburou’s very elite seppuku describes him as wearing blue.
Pure white today seems to be the shorthand for seppuku in the Japanese media, I wonder why … Most seppukus at any rate were not so formal as depicted in media. Low-ranking men didn’t really get all the ceremony and scene-setting and special clothing.
