Cuz he is the one who tell us (the unsatisfied) about prince fate.
The servant, friend and the one who hits Hamlet on the head when it needed. At first I thought about the fact that Guildenstern (and Roenkrantz) was killed in the play. I thought that the same thing happened to Guil. BUT then I reread it and realized that Guildenstern in “Hamlet” was willing to die with Hamlet.
We discussed the nature of the Hedgehog in our Russian Lawphelia sect. And one of my friends noticed some interesting points
Fandom used to think that Lawless was always calm and sane (before The Meeting) but in new chapter we have a lot of gum for our brains.
He always was himself. As we know him now. But:
Lawless changed his behavior so much when he was with Ophelia. I don’t mean AFTER her death, which usually everybody payed attention to, but WITH her.
This can be explained by his love, of course, but it matters a lot to his character:
He is a prince himself. Quite elegant, as we can see when he visits Ash (oh these gloves…) proud, a bit arrogant. This is characteristic of his title and the era. He keeps his posture, in his behavior one can feel noble upbringing.
Now let’s compare this with the old frames, where Lawless is Ophelia’s servamp. Where are these things? Has he changed so much under the feelings? Just look at him…
He become her servant voluntarily, bowed his knee in front of her, despite the fact that he is from the same class as she… This says a lot (although if his kingdom is no more exist, then so is the title. However, we are talking about the soul. And I’m very interested what was in his head at the beginning, when he just became a servant)
Lawless, being the Greed, GIVES all time, one might even say “sacrifices” something (everything) for the sake of his beloved princess. He sacrificed status (he gave her his devotion as a knight, protector, servant, her toy and original coffe table), loyalty and time of his (un)life - I mean when he sat under the statue for so many years (he would have stayed there, probably until his death times), and - most important - he gives his happiness, because he let her go…
I think his behavior is also dictated by the knowledge of how society works. He is not just a guy who became her servant, he knows how a servant should do things, because he had servants himself. This is curious, he was a prince, then he was in love and sacrificial, then he wore the mask of a crazy killer for 300 years and now, after the loss of the power, he returned to the prince (?)

it’s time to let my theories for a walk. Actually we’ve know a lot from the spoiler frame.
The neckerchief. Most often it’s remembered because of dandy. But dandies were in the 19th century. And the flashback obviously happens much earlier. Neckerchiefs were also fashionable in the days of Louis XIV. He lived at the beginning of the 18th century. This is better for us. Shirt cuffs also look like 18th century shirt. All of these mostly worn by aristocratic people, so we can say that Lawless is probably from a noble family.
Btw this is also hinted at by his love for chatter, discussions and his whims (“ordinary” people didn’t have so much time for this). He and Hugh (I think he is from the nobility too) speak more than the rest.
Lawless, as we know, always chooses famous persons for contracts. If this happened at that time, I think any peasant would be uncomfortable in aristocratic society. Hedgehog doesn’t.
Then more. Unlike other servamps, Lawless cares about fashion (I’m not saying he is good at it). Of course this may be a new habit, but other siblings have nothing alike.
I think that dialogue takes place 10-40 years before the meeting with Ophelia, who apparently lived in the middle of the 18th century (we calculate, knowing that the meeting of servamps was 300 years ago). She was the fifth eve, and we can assume - at the flashback Lawless already had Eve(s). Maybe he’s the first who had.

OMG this chapter ;; We are getting closer to finding out some things and I don’t know about you guys, but this strongly suggests that Gear could be sensei. Just want to make a quick note that I didn’t have proper space to write this, but when Tsubaki says ‘vessel’ that was the furigana reading, while the kanji reading was ‘body’. Remember in chapter 81 about vessel, blood and spirit?
Also, I believe this was brought up before, but you know what I was reminded of? The notion of acedia, which was considered the 8th cardinal sin and can be translated as “sloth”. (You can look this up because I can’t explain it that well). But, in a way, Kuro and Tsubaki, with them representing aspects of what is viewed as ‘sloth’ they are apparently like two halves of a whole, and maybe this is why Tsubaki brings up the “Let’s make us complete” part.
