Ana Rubin has been sweltering in her cousins’ hand-me-down winter clothing, so she is thrilled when Mama finds time to make her a simple lawn dress for the summer temperatures that are so much hotter than Ana’s native Russia.
The material is very thin, so you can see the embroidery on her slip. I was originally making the “1912 Apron Dress” pattern from PixieFaire, but it’s morphed into a dress and apron, as I wanted something more summery. I’m still working on the apron, but the dress looked so cute with the ribbon sash that I needed to take a picture.
Emily’s dress has some stains on it, so she needed a new dress to wear while waiting for it to be cleaned. She needs more clothes anyway, as her collection is pretty small, and this pattern (Morning Walks by Bringing Joy Boutique) was too cute to pass up. I like to think Emily’s mum made it for her before she was evacuated.
I also want to make Emily’s school uniform and matching birthday dresses for her and Molly.
I’m trying to get rid of her dye rash, hence the white marks on her arm.
Really cute dresses a grandma made for her granddaughter’s doll. I absolutely love the red polka dot take on Molly’s birthday pinafore! It’s even trimmed with red ribbons.
Felicity’s best friend, Elizabeth, was waiting for her at the pasture behind the Wythes’ stable. They often met there before lessons to visit the mare and her new colt. When she saw Felicity, Elizabeth smiled. “Oh, good. Here you are, Lissie,” she said. “Do whistle and make the horses come to us.” Felicity whistled. The mare trotted toward her, and the colt followed behind like a little, shy shadow. Elizabeth and Felicity pulled up handful after handful of sweet spring grass and fed it to the horses.
Elizabeth is wearing her new summer dress that I made for her this week. I used Flossie Potter’s Betsy Ross Shop Dress pattern with some modification of the sleeves. Instead of buttons down the placket of the bodice, I applied lace and wove some white embroidery thread in a lace-up pattern. I made her straw hat, too, to match Felicity’s. It’s a placemat that I took apart, painted, and sewed on some pretty Rococo-patterned twill tape. Underneath she’s wearing Pemberley Thread’s Antoinette Stays.
