So I just saw Marvel’s Ten rings movie. Honestly, it was a pretty by the numbers “adventure” movie. I think the cast being Asian is the only reason it got traction. A movie’s cast ethnicity shouldn’t factor in my opinion but who am I but merely a internet nerd…

At least it had a giant monster fight so that is a reason for me to rewatch the film. Oh and Hollywood thinks these action scenes are good? Ah, Anything from Toei’s Koichi Sakamoto’s work beats this film’s action scenes. 3 out of 5.

Box Office Milestone: ‘Shang-Chi’ Becomes Highest-Grossing Domestic [Film] of Pandemic Era

The Marvel Studios and Disney pic achieved a major milestone on Friday when hitting $186.8 million in domestic ticket sales, the highest gross of the pandemic-era despite the challenges posed by the delta variant. The record previously belonged to fellow Marvel title Black Widow, which topped out at $183.4 million in North America.

From filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi stars Simu Liu as Marvel’s newest hero and is the studio’s first to center on an Asian lead. The superhero offering has been fueled by positive reviews, strong exits from audiences, and an A CinemaScore. Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Tony Leung, Fala Chen, and Michelle Yeoh also star.

Shang-Chi Director Suggests The Character’s Power-Levels Are Comparable To The Hulk & Thor

During a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker was asked about the Master of Martial Arts’ power-levels and whether they were on the same level as the likes of Thor and The Hulk. Without naming any specific characters, Destin Daniel Cretton suggested that by the end of the movie, Shang-Chi is “standing on a similar level” to the most formidable heroes in the MCU.

“It depends if you’re talking about the beginning of the movie or the end of the movie,” he said. “I think by the end of this movie, I think, he is, you know, standing up on a similar level to some of our favorite superheroes in the MCU. For fun, we’ve debated things but I don’t really know the answer to it. But I’m sure we’ll explore them in the future.”

‘Shang-Chi’ Smashing Labor Day Opening Weekend Records With $60M+ – Midday Box Office Update

Shang-Chi’s three-day total looks to be around $60M, with the potential to do in the mid- to high-$60M range over four days. That’s poised to be 126% higher than the previous Labor Day weekend record opener, 2017’s Halloween. It could even go much higher, but we’ll have a better idea tomorrow morning. This is according to industry estimates, not Disney.

Exhibitors have a lot to be thankful for here as Disney has Shang-Chi on a 45-day theatrical day window. Early PostTrak audience exits show 5 stars for the first Asian-American Marvel superhero movie, with a 99% fresh audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Who is Shang-Chi?

While the film’s version of Shang-Chi differs considerably from the original comic version, it is still worth exploring the origins of the superhero. The superhero was introduced as a master of martial arts and a peerless hand-to-hand combatant in Special Marvel Edition #15 and instantly became popular. Throughout the 70s, he continued to be one of the most famous Marvel street-level superheroes despite his stereotypical characterisation.

Meanwhile,Simu Liu revealed how he along with the director and writers made sure MCU’s portrayal of Shang-Chi was complex and relatable, even if was not authentic to the source material. “Those comics were written by white people. And they didn’t necessarily understand an authentic Asian-American experience. So the character that came out… it never seemed like he was three-dimensional. He was very serious, spoke mostly mystical proverbs and didn’t feel fleshed out. So we crafted this all new character and story.”

Marvel’sShang-Chi Gold Open Campaign Launched by Gold House

The Shang-Chi Gold Open seeks to spark collective moviegoing that to deliver a successful opening weekend, engage as many fans as possible, and more upon the film’s premiere on Sept. 3. Gold House has also set up the Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings Gold Open Community Fund on GoFundMe. The crowd-funding pace seeks to keep fans in updated about the film’s major theater buyout campaigns and connects them with another standalone fundraiser aimed at providing underserved API youth access to the film during opening weekend.

First reactions to Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi’ declare it 'phenomenal’

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings had its world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, finally inducting the titular hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after repeated pandemic-induced delays. If the first reactions are anything to go by, it was well worth the wait.

First reactions to Shang-Chi are rolling in now, and it appears to have earned gushing, universal praise across the board. The overwhelming consensus is that Shang-Chi is a “phenomenal” film filled with heart, humour, and “jaw dropping action” — and not just by Marvel’s standards. It sounds exactly like the fun, action-packed blockbuster we could all use right now. If you weren’t already hyped for Shang-Chi, now would be a good time to start.
