Chris Evans visits Shanghai again.

As the actor of Marvel’s popular character, ‘Captain America’, Chris Evans has many fans and you can also say he’s a regular visitor of China. And this time, he is here because of Chivas new product launch.

We met him on the roof of a hotel located at The Bund. He was seated on the sofa, wearing a casual, dark-colored jacket when he took the initiative and greeted us first. Unlike the 'American Sweetheart’ image he portrays in the movies, nicknamed by fans 'Kiwifruit’, the Chris Evans in real life always kept a beard, dressed casually, totally unlike the 'old-fashioned’ Steve Roger.

Borned in the year 1981, Chris Evans has already been in this business for over 15 years. His first debut was a minor character in the CBS TV series 'The Fugitive’.

In 2011, he was cast in Marvel’s superhero films, gaining popularity as the actor of 'Captain America’. And in 2014, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a director and directed his first movie 'Before We Go’.

He may seem like a chatty, dorky guy on variety shows but in reality, he’s just like what Snowpiercer’s director, Joon-ho Bong once said, a very sensitive person.

Chris Evans often said he is not good at doing interviews with the media as well as the camera. He will feel the anxiety, not knowing what he has to do it, even though he still seems chatty and easy-going on the outside.

In this short interview time, we talk to him about something else apart from those muscles, Marvel and Captain America.

A: Chris Evans

Q: What is the last time you did something with passion?

A: With passion? It’s got to be the last time I was with my nephew. It’s always meaningful to me, everytime I’m with my nephew. Spending time with my family, especially with the kids, it’s always a very important and meaningful experience to me. I’d feel a sense of being, responsibility and passion.

Q: And where do you learn new things from, new opinion?

A: I have a few very, very intelligent good friends. And a few of my family members are highly-educated as well. They’re very knowledgeable and very open-minded as well. Everytime I spend time with them, they are able to expand my knowledge and information, helping me see things from a different angle.

Q: Is there anyone who you felt envious of recently?

A: Dave Foster Wallace. He’s an author. I read a book, 'Consider the Lobster’, written by him recently. It left me in awe. I may be alittle jealous of his talent.

Q: What makes a good actor?

A: I think a good actor needs to be adventurous, brave and also curious. Curious about other’s life experience, and you need to have empathy as well. Because just being curious is not enough, you have to really go and understand what people went through that is different from yourself. And also willing to act and tell these stories.

Q: What do you think is the most misunderstood thing people have about this profession?

A: Most people has misunderstanding of many professions. What I meant is, I don’t even understand the job of a doctor, lawyer and politician. So of course, people will not be unable to understand an actor’s job as well.

Sometimes people think this job is not as hard as it looks. In this business, it’s very hard to do it with ease. You have to make sure you maintain emotional stability, learn to be able to say 'no’, and also be able to cross many obstacles.

Q: What do you think of your fans?

A: I’m lucky that I have the chance to meet many fans. I get to meet them at comic conventions or movie premieres. Most of my fans are really great, very pragmatic, and really love the movies which we put in alot of hard work to make. Because of this, most of the time, I have a great time interacting with the fans, I always think that my fans are those I will love to befriend in private.

Q: Which talent do you most wish you have?

A: I love to sing. I think I’m not bad at that. But I wish I am more talented.

Q: What is your understanding of success?

A: To me, success is maintaining a certain level of existence. We always have so much noise in our brain, we will think about of the past, worry about the future, always living in tension. This is unhealthy. I think the smartest way is to try to maintain your existence, discard the worries, live in the moment. Only by living in the moment, you can obtain happiness.

Q: If you’re not in this profession, what will you be doing now?

A: As a kid, I love cartoons, comics and Disney. Pixar started making really good movies when I was younger. So, if I’m not an actor, I’ll probably be working in the animation industry.

Huxinting Tea House in Shanghai, China

Your visit in Shanghai is not complete unless you have checked out Huxinting Tea House. It was only in 1855 when this place was converted to a teahouse. It happened during the reign of Qing Dynasty’s Emperor Xianfeng.
The first name for Huxinting Tea House was Yeshi. Eventually, it became popular as Wanzai. Soon, it was again renamed as Mid-lake Pavilion Teahouse. The main reason why it got its latter name is because of the location of this teahouse.

The Huxinting Tea House is a great place to visit. The mere façade of this place is fascinating. Before you get to the main pavilion, there is an attention-grabbing bridge which is constructed with a zig-zag style. According to traditional Chinese beliefs, this zig-zag design is not only for aesthetic appeal. It is also important for keeping the evil spirits from getting into the pavilion.

This place is very sophisticated that when Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II visited Shanghai, she also spent some time in the Huxinting Tea House. She drank some tea with her entourage and some local personnel.

Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai, China

The Jin Mao Tower also known as the Jinmao Building or Jinmao Tower, is an 88-story (93 if counting the floors in the spire) landmark skyscraper in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai, China. It is 420.5 metres (1,380 feet) tall and is one of the tallest buildings in the world. It contains a shopping mall, offices and the Grand Hyatt Shanghai hotel, which at the time of completion was the highest hotel in the world. Along with the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Shanghai Tower it is part of the Lujiazui skyline seen from the Bund. It was the tallest building in China from its completion in 1999 until 2007, when it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center which is located close by.
