Question to people who know and use Sign Language.

I’m far from knowing Sign Language of any type but I’m growing more and more interested in it as it also often gives me great inspiration and ideas for how I can animate characters while talking.

I know the best routine would be to hire a pro and request them to record signing the sentences/speech I want to add signing to.

Is it still okay to use singular word signs out of sentence to go along with the spoken word (as it is being said) or is that in a way offensive or appropriative?

From the little I know about sign language is, that it does not necessarily correspond 1 to 1 in grammar and sentence structure to what is being said verbally. Since it’s its own language and all that

So I imagine having a character just randomly suddenly sign words without actually signing the full sentence might come off as weird?

But at the same time for me as an animator these word gestures provide heavy enrichment to long talking sequences.

Is it okay for me to do this? Using singular out of sentence signs in sync with words as they’re being used?

I know it doesn’t actually create real signing or gets even close to what makes the language a language but basically.. I’m asking if it’s still okay to use for visuals?
