Like, I’m not sure some people quite grasp just how much Silco was willing to sacrifice for her. The whole point of the Finn and Sevika “I saved your ass this time but don’t count on it again” subplot was to show that Silco was on very thin ice politically. If it had come out that he picked Jinx over Zaun he would have been *done*. But he was still going to do it.
And the fact that he showed absolutely no hesitation in the matter. The way he threw himself under the bus instantly to try to protect her. It didn’t matter how long he’d been working for Zaun or how much he wanted it, how many lives he destroyed to get this close. As soon as Jayce asked him to turn his daughter over he instantly thought “Well that’s happening over my dead body.”
That right there is what makes Silco a parent. Because parents are the ones that make those sacrifices for their children.
though if you have the first look at silco and his work you would probably presume he’s a strict parent, i think we all can agree that he’s a father that incredibly spoils his child. and not just “i’ll give jinx the life i didn’t have”, with all the food and toys she wanted, but like… “i’m partaking in a teen talent competition, and there’s that girl who’s father totally bought her 1st place already ” situation. like you would see them at their bright-coloured table, with the dad getting his precious daughter’s hair in order and showering her in complements. maybe he threats someone so his daughter wins the contest of children’s crafts from cones and pasta. maybe he is bitchy towards everybody else. this kind of vibe.
though i don’t think jinx would be happy with this attitude since she has troubles with self-perception and self-esteem, so silco probably restraints himself at that front. but i just know silco wouldn’t have any problem with being a dad like that. some random person isn’t treating jinx nice? of course she can stand for herself, oh, she totally can, but it’s not a big deal if a person just mysteriously disappears… right?
so. every little gesture of love he can make just to give jinx a better life. no matter how annoying it might be to anyone else. he’s just like this.

We need more hurt/comfort stories about Silco raising Jinx in Zaun. There’s so much potential for an in-depth analysis about a single father who has trust issue and never have to deal with a family before, raising this traumatized child on his own
Listen, Silco and Jinx are so popular it’s a crime ao3 has only like 500 fics about them, imo when it comes to popularity they’re roughly comparable to caitvi, which has like 3k fics, but obvs there’s a tendency in fandom by fans and due to tagging systems to prefer writing ship-centric fics unfortunately.

Literally everything he ever wanted was being handed to him on a silver platter essentially for free BUT-
for the fact that he’d have to lose his kid for good, give up on her and condemn her to certain death or a fate worse than death. She’d live there being brutalized by colleagues of the enforcers she killed, if she weren’t killed within the first week, and I’m not sure whether it’d be worse if after leaving her there he was still visiting her in prison or if he’d never visit her at all. Either way, it’s quite a bloody sacrifice to make at the altar of progress and one Silco wasn’t willing to pay for super understandable reasons. He couldn’t win like this, it wasn’t really a choice.
Silco is not a Good dad but he is showing some aspects of good dad behaviour. What really counts is that he exceeds the behaviour his background, personality, societal stance and surroundings would predict.
He hardly shows good person behaviour but sometimes good dad behaviour.
The most intriguing part is that his behaviour towards jinx differs strongly from his behaviour towards others. Makes for a nice contrast effect, so he can easily seem like a good dad.
In a Universe full of different dads he is a pretty shitty- to- okayish dad but given what he came from, he is going beyond his limits.
