Still on my Phantom of the Opera Dogs kick. Probably one of the most iconic images from the story is the underground lake beneath the opera house, so of course I had to draw my own version. But with dogs. I had a ton of fun messing around with colors and light, and the crazy design of the boat and the fishes. The piece kind of got away from me a bit and I’ve been working on it on and off for well over two weeks, but I had an absolute blast working on it.

After rereading ‘Watership Down’ I was compelled to give the old animated series a watch. Of course Captain Campion was my favorite character, and I felt like drawing him in all his battle-scarred glory.

Here’s my part of an art trade with @tangled-pnumbra!

I wanted to draw a nice, naturey scene of Hector and Adira, getting some rest and relaxation under some foliage while they wait for the rain to clear up. I need to do more peaceful rainy scenes - they’re so relaxing to draw.

I had a lot of fun with this piece!

Still on my Phantom of the Opera but make everyone dogs kick. Enjoy some quick paintings - one of Christine and Raoul enjoying a romantic ‘Lady and the Tramp-esque’ evening, and Raoul and his brother Philippe going to the Opera, and some small color studies comparing the underground lake to the Opera House. There’s something very amusing and charming to me about a bunch of puppies frolicking around a beautiful old theater.

Decided to finish up this sketch from a comic I never ended up doing. I don’t know if I’ll end up doing more with the other sketches I have. I just liked the composition of this one.

The concept was Edmund and Adira set off after ‘Destinies Collide’ to track down the moonstone, and it becomes very clear, very quickly to Adira that Edmund has no practical skills outside of the Dark Kingdom. He doesn’t know which plants and animals are dangerous, he keeps eating poisonous berries, or mistaking rhinos for boulders, or forgetting which was is north, or trying to ford a river that is way too deep. And then they run into Hector, who is still very grumpy about having his tree house torn down. And being pushed off a cliff.

Maybe I’ll actually sit and write it someday, maybe I won’t. Who’s to say?

Here is the cast of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ drawn as dogs.

Well, except for the Opera Ghost, but I don’t believe he actually exists.

I’ve been having computer troubles lately, and while moving files around I happened upon a bunch of beat boards I had drawn out many years ago. At the time, I had never seen Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, but I had a CD of the cast recording, and a copy of the original novel by Gaston Leroux. And I loved that CD - I listened to it over and over again for hours while I drew (and still do). But since I had never seen the stage musical I had to make up scenes to the lyrics in my head, and being a kid who liked dogs and animation, these scenes were populated by dogs. And I not only drew those dogs, but I storyboarded the songs with said dogs.

I’ve since seen several stage productions, both live and recorded of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, but the dog version I played in my head is still my favorite. I mean, its adorable puppies in costumes - what’s not to love? Finding those old storyboards really reignited my love for it, and I just had to drop everything and draw these cute Phantom dogs. It took me about two weeks to redraw everyone, but it was an absolute blast. And I kind of want to develop it a bit more - it might be a fun little visual development exercise.

I love @empkinilly‘s centaur AU ideas (and some others’), and I haven’t drawn any centaurs in a while, so I thought I’d try my hand at drawing Centaur Cap as a warm up (because of course I’m going to draw centaur Cap), and then I decided to build it up instead of working on other paintings.

I don’t know why I chose to make it painterly. I’m in a painterly mood lately.

A little WolfQuest comic featuring adult Rowan, based on how he met his mate Dolly, in the game. One of her pack mates came to run Rowan off, but he escaped by hiding up on a rock. Apparently the AI can not figure out how rocks work, so Rowan sat on his rock where he continued to woo his beloved Dolly. She just laid there watching these shenanigans unfold. WolfQuest is such a great game.

The designs are all based on coats in-game, with some artistic liberty taken

I wanted to finish this before the year was up, but family things came up. I’m hoping to make more comics this year, and this was a fun experiment to start with.

I pulled out my old Petz5 game as I was feeling nostalgic, and once again began my pastime of breeding hexed breedz into strange and wonderful creations. Some people might call them horrifying abominations they would not want to meet in a dark forest, but I call them my virtual petz palz. Today the twins, Sweet Lips and Porridge posed for the camera set up in their habitat.

Here is the original pic I took of Sweet Lips and Porridge with my sketch.

The breedz they’re made up of are VPZ’s KittyBonez, VPZ’s Llamaz, VPZ’s Ravenz, Supernova’s Reindeer and Supernova’s Roe Deer.

Here’s my take on Vedis from ‘The Rise of Flynn Rider’.This was quite a challenge Here’s my take on Vedis from ‘The Rise of Flynn Rider’.This was quite a challenge

Here’s my take on Vedis from ‘The Rise of Flynn Rider’.

This was quite a challenge - coming up with something totally unique yet still feeling like the Brotherhood. I was tinkering with stuff even after I finished the coloring. I knew going in he had to be large, muscled, and blue eyed, with the Brotherhood tattoo on his bicep, as per the description in the book. After some experimenting I decided on giving him a beard, deep-set eyes, a pear shape, and to incorporate a lot of circles. I figure using circles would set him apart from the rest of the Brotherhood, which are a lot of squares, teardrop and triangle shapes.

For Dark Kingdom Vedis, I incorporated a lot of the Dark Kingdom style - fur, belts, leather, facial hair, dark hair worn long. I made him a longbowman, as I feel like a ranged warrior would round out the group nicely. And I just find the idea of a big, hulking guy forgoing sword and axe, to riddle his enemies with arrows quite amusing. For some reason I pictured him as a few years older than the Brotherhood we meet in the series. I really wanted to give Brotherhood Vedis a slightly shady look. Like maybe there’s a reason we never saw him with the rest of the Brotherhood. I mean, would you trust a man who trains captive animals for a ring of criminals? He also just blabbed to the Baron about the moonstone, the thing that he swore to defend, even at the risk of being controlled by the Mind Trap. Gotta love the idea of a shady Vedis who betrays the Brotherhood, and runs off to join a circus. Unfortunately the final pose came out stiff, but I’m blaming that on my sore shoulder.

The Vedis Eugene meets in the book I designed to be more world weary. Still a bit shady, but the book describes his voice as deep, yet soft, so I leaned into that with the pose. He’s discarded every scrap of his old life: cut his hair shorter, forgone the fur and leather. He sports a brand new scar which I’m sure has a great story behind it. I kept his attire simple - perhaps trying to avoid too much attention for some reason. He’s a bit more grizzled, and with more of a slouch, and a bit more kindness around his eyes. I read into him being very regretful over the Dark Kingdom, but it seems to me the wound goes a bit deeper than losing one’s home. It’s pure speculation, but again ties into my idea that he did not leave the Dark Kingdom on good terms, and is sorry for it.

Just the idea of Vedis - a knight fallen from grace, who winds up joining the circus with a criminal ringmaster and his gang of thugs - I would pay money for that story! That’s such a good concept for a character. And pairing him up with a couple of kids like Eugene and Lance - what an absolutely fun adventure that would’ve been! Where is my story of a grumpy knight-turned-circus-conman taking two orphan would-be thieves under his wing as they try to discover the secrets of his shady past? Like I want to see twenty chapters of Vedis loudly complaining about these two kids, and then at the very end when the Baron tries to kill the annoying pipsqueaks, Vedis takes a stand, and finally does the right thing in his life, and reveals that he has all this knightly training and can actually give the Baron a real run for his money while Eugene and Lance set up the Biggest Con of the Century (and also manage to save Vedis, and he won’t say it, but he’s secretly very proud). I’m sorry, Vedis. You deserve your own story, bud.

@pennumbra’sVedis design is also amazing, and I kind of wish I could have borrowed some elements from it. The sketch for Brotherhood Vedis looks especially cool.

I’ve done badgers and birds - it’s high time I grew the Brotherhood as woofs, specifically werewoofs, because everyone knows werewoofs are the best. Would love if the moonstone just started turning everyone into big monster puppies.

Bonus without shading. Happy Howloween everyone!

Decided to throw my hat into the I Hope So character contest, since, hey I’ve got a lion character sitting on my shelf collecting dust. Came up with him when my friends and I were thinking up funny lion names a while back. Everyone loved his name, so I ended up drawing him.
This here is Manemane. He’s a sweet, gentle, maneless lion, who just likes lounging about. His lioness friends do all the hunting and patrolling, because Manemane’s pretty useless at survival. He’s plagued with awkwardness, watery eyes and sniffles. But his perpetual allergies do have one advantage - his sneeze is loud enough to scare off any rival male. He’s otherwise pretty terrible at being a lion, but when he’s with his friends he feels like he’s the King of the whole savanna.

After reading those Tangled books, I really want to draw some more Tangled stuff, but my brain has decided that none of the ideas I have are worth the effort. So I decided to look through my old stuff for inspiration, and found this unfinished gem. I threw a bit of polish on it, but I’m not super interested in finishing the comic it’s from. The poses and expressions were too fun to not share though.
