I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet but the vest that Eddie gives Steve is his battle vest, (though likely one he’s just started working on since it doesn’t have a whole lot on it yet.)
The thing about battle vests is that they’re very personal, with patches and pins that represent who you are, what you like, and where you’ve been. They’re usually hand-made and contain a lifetime of stories and memories— they’re very much a representation of who you are.
Taking that into account, Eddie giving Steve his vest in particular (he could’ve easily pulled off the leather jacket underneath it instead, which wouldve given Steve more coverage, so why give him the vest?) is a lot more like giving him a part of himself. Giving someone your jacket or clothes in itself is an act of love, but giving someone a vest that you spent hours working on, that contains aspects of who you are, is a lot more like sharing a part of your soul.
