#sora in smash

unpopular opinion but sora getting into smash this late hits different. like i would’ve been hype for him to be in 6 years ago when he won that popularity poll. since he was written off as never getting in because disney refused, we moved on and began backing other underrated characters. it really was like some sort of video game hall of fame awards, who earned the recognition to get into smash? to have their franchises be revived or old games discovered by new audiences? we got really invested in hoping for our niche favorites.

sora for final smash isn’t bad. they needed to “go out with a bang” (and frankly they were probably sitting on him for a while already with this in mind) and he’s an obvious choice. but therein lies the problem. the only surprise to be had at all was that disney actually caved (just a little. squeenix characters and a mickey silhouette keychain is all you get). so i just end up feeling neutral. sakurai had broken my heart so many times with mii costumes and assist trophies, that sora in smash now just feels like “oh. good for them”.

I’m so happy sora is in smash now! I think he is going to be my new main for a while. Haha along with everyone else probably.
