#squid game theory
overanalyzing the squid game players’ numbers bc why not
spoilers ahead! this is just for fun
credits to Heavy Spoilers for Il-nam and Gi-hun’s analysis
Il-nam 001
- his name literally means one/first/first man
- shows that he’s at the top or in control of the game
Gi-hun 456
- him having the last number shows his and Il-Nam’s connection. they’re polar opposites
- started from the bottom
now we’re hereand he won/ became #1 in the end
Ali 199
- nearly 200
- he nearly won the marbles game until Sang-woo betrayed him :’(
Sang-woo 218
- ok i’m bullshitting this one bc i can’t think of a reason but it’s just for fun
- 456 - 218 = 238
- 2 + 3 + 8 = 13
- 13 was the number of the man Sang-woo pushed in glass stepping stones
- 13 could also mean he’s unlucky but i’m unsure of 13’s symbolism in Korean culture
- or 1 + 3 = 4 which is unlucky in Korea
Deok-su 101
- 101 is usually the number you use in academics (e.g. Chemistry 101)
- symbolizes that he’s a know-it-all
- he also has people that follow his orders like how you follow lessons in classes ?? (IDK HAHAH)
Mi-nyeo 212
- notice how she and Deok-su have similar patterns
- pattern: (x) (x-1) (x)
- examples: 101, 212, 323, 434
- them having similar number patterns shows their characters’ connection and also how they died together in episode 7
Sae-beok 067
- i can’t really think of a reason for her rather than 0 + 6 + 7 = 13 which is an unlucky number
- but again i’m unsure of 13’s symbolism in Korean culture
- again, 1 + 3 = 4 which is unlucky in Korea
feel free to add your own thoughts!
