“I made very good friends with a woman of the tribe,” Streisand commented about her experience filming in Kenya. “We didn’t speak the same language obviously, but she understood what I was trying to say to her…[It] shows you that there’s something beyond words—some soul connection between certain people that just exists or it doesn’t exist.” Here, her new friend, Outoula (second wife of the chief), paints the tribe’s sacred insignia on Streisand’s cheek to protect against evil influence.  Photo by Steve Schapiro, c:1972.
