“Damn Peter, you’re so tense today,” you exclaimed.

It was present in the tenseness of his shoulders, the line of his profile taut like a string ready to snap.

Peter sat on the floor in front of you in your small studio apartment as you sat on your bed and rubbed his shoulders. It was a routine the two of you developed over time, and it was something completely unspoken. Your entire relationship with him was unspoken, in fact. The two of you had been best friends for years, and as you grew into adulthood, it blossomed into more. Although he never officially asked you out, the two of you spent most of your free time together and you were comfortable with how things were.

At least that’s what you both told yourselves.

Chapter Three - Free Bird

‘Cause I’m as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

———————

Peter Parker looked at his Aunt May like she had three heads, or like she’d just gone mad, Peter seriously thought that insanity was the most plausible explanation. May looked at him with a raised eyebrow as she waited for him to say something, to say anything but all the words seemed to die in his throat before they passed his lips.

“What?” he squeaked when he finally found his voice and he cleared his throat, “that’s crazy, you know that right?”

May sighed as Peter looked past her at the pretty young woman that he’d saved, who was currently fixated on her cell phone, she was getting discharged today, “what are we supposed to do? She has nowhere to go.”

Peter rolled his eyes as he raked a hand through his hair, tugging a little at the strands, “I vote that we should just tell her the truth,” Peter almost shrank back as his Aunt shot him a death glare.

“Under no circumstances are you to tell her the truth, she must be so confused as it is!”

Peter sighed as he shook his head in disagreement as he watched his Aunt walk into Y/N’s room, “Y/N, sweetheart, it’s late. How about you come and stay the night at my place?”

A look of surprise, then gratitude spread across her face before she shook her head, “thank you, but I’m just gonna get out of the city.”

Uh-oh, Aunt May wouldn’t like that answer, “not tonight you’re not, you can stay the night and leave in the morning, if you still want to leave of course,” she added quickly.

“Thank you so much, I appreciate it,” Y/N smiled.

Peter smiled at Y/N as they walked into the kitchen, “how are you feeling?” he asked.

Y/N smiled as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “so much better thank you, I dread to think what would have happened if Spider-Man hadn’t found me when he did, I owe him my life.”

Peter smiled to himself, he couldn’t help but feel smug but the articles that were published about him in The Daily Bugle were certainly enough to humble him.

“He’s a real hero,” Aunt May smiled before she glanced over at Peter in a way that made him think that she knew about him being Spider-Man, it wasn’t the first time he thought this, “are spaghetti and meatballs okay with you, Y/N?”

“Perfect, thank you Mrs Parker.”

Peter bit his lip, he’d spent so much time either at the hospital or doing an assignment for college that he’d hardly been able to do any of his Spider-Man duties, “do you need a hand with dinner, Aunt May?”

Aunt May laughed as she got the ingredients out and looked over at Peter, “oh, you’re serious? Sweetie, you and I both know that your cooking skills don’t go beyond microwaving a packet of noodles.”

Peter flushed as Y/N looked at him and burst out laughing, before giving him an apologetic look as she covered her mouth, “seriously?”

“Seriously,” Peter smirked, “I’m gonna go out for a little while.”

Aunt May nodded, “okay darling, don’t be late for dinner.”

Peter nodded before he smiled at Y/N, and he was out the door. The streets of New York were fairly quiet tonight; he’d stopped a couple of petty thieveries. No matter how small the crime was, Peter felt like it was his responsibility to stop it. After all, the cops were doing fuck all. He found himself sitting at the top of the Empire State Building as he looked at the dazzling city below. The lights of the city shone like a thousand stars.

He missed Gwen so much, four years had passed since she’d died and it wasn’t getting any easier with time. Nowadays, he tried to keep busy with college and the whole Spider-Man thing, he tried to not think about her. But, it couldn’t make him forget. How could he forget something like that when it had been his fault?

Dinner was great that night, though Y/N seemed nervous, she seemed absolutely fine when the conversation was flowing freely. But, she never initiated it, though Peter couldn’t exactly blame her. He was dying to tell her what he thought was the truth but he’d promised Aunt May that he wouldn’t.

After dinner, Y/N looked over at Aunt May somewhat nervously, “is it alright if I use your computer?”

Peter smiled over at her, “you can use mine, come on I’ll show you where it is,” he took her upstairs and ushered her into his room, “there you go, use it for whatever you need,” he typed in his password.

“Thanks, Peter,” she grinned before her gaze landed on the framed photograph of Gwen that he had on his desk, “wow, she’s really pretty.”

Peter nodded as he shot her a sad smile, “yeah, she is.”

“Is she your girlfriend?”

Peter shook his head as he ruffled a hand through his hair, feeling the painful clenching in his chest, “not anymore,” he cleared his throat as he stood up, “like I said, you’re welcome to use it for anything you need,” he gestured at his computer. He barely heard her word of thanks as he walked out of his room, desperate to get downstairs.

“Is she alright?” Aunt May asked as Peter hoisted himself up on the kitchen counter.

“Yeah she’s fine, at least I think so,” Peter sighed, “I feel really bad for her.”

“Me too.”

Peter was just about to open a bottle of beer when he noticed that Aunt May kept on glancing up the stairs with an anxious look on her face, “she’s been up there for a while, I hope she’s okay.”

“I’ll go up and check on her,” Peter was worried too when he saw Y/N just staring at his computer screen, there was hardly an expression on her face, “MJ?“ Peter asked as he knocked on the doorframe, “are you okay?”

Y/N looked over at him and it seemed like the sight of him made her tear up, “I found the newspaper article.”

“What newspaper article?” Peter asked, cocking his head to one side.

Y/N started to read off the computer screen and Peter’s blood ran cold, “15 years ago, Mr and Mrs Y/L/N died in a house fire, suspected arson, and their 7-year-old daughter went missing in the same night,” her voice was monotone and Peter’s heart clenched with guilt, “is that me? Was I stolen from my real parents? Surely, I’d remember, right?”

“Hey,” Peter crouched to her level and he brushed his knuckles along her cheek, making her look at him, “I don’t know if it’s you but you have the same name on your driver’s license, I wanted to tell you but it wasn’t my place, I’m sorry.”

Y/N shook her head with a sad smile, “I don’t blame you Peter, I understand,” she hesitated, “did you know them?”

Peter shook his head, he only remembered bits and pieces, he’d only been a little boy when they had died, “I didn’t really know them but I do vaguely remember them and they were nice.”

Y/N nodded as silent tears rolled down her cheek, “I think I’m gonna stay in the city, I know that you’re probably so busy but can you please help me look for an apartment? I really don’t know where to start,” she smiled almost bashfully and Peter found it endearing.

Peter grinned, happy that she was staying in the city and that she’d asked him, “of course I will, I’m really glad that you’re staying in the city, Y/N.”

“Me too,” she beamed.

———————

You’d had the best night’s sleep in ages, the Parker’s spare bed was so comfortable but you’d also had a really weird night. Even when you were in the hospital you knew that something was amiss, so as soon as you got to a computer, you googled your parents. You were extremely surprised when an article about a house fire and kidnapping popped up instead of your parent’s Wikipedia page. Could the girl who went missing really be you? In fact, there was no trace of their Wikipedia page anywhere on the internet, it seemed.

As a young teenager you were so unhappy with your life so you would fantasize and read about the possibility of a parallel universe. You threw yourself into that idea, that fantasy, wishing it could be real, and now it seemed that that impossibility could be true. It was crazy to even think about, hard to wrap your brain around but you felt safe, for the first time in a long time.

You smiled when you walked into the kitchen and discovered that it smelled of bacon, May Parker grinned at you from where she was cooking, “good morning, honey. Did you sleep well?”

You smiled with a nod, she was so kind, you couldn’t believe that you’d met someone like her, or Peter for that matter, “I slept amazing, thank you so much for having me.”

“Oh, you’re welcome, would you like some breakfast?”

Before you could answer, you heard Peter speak up, “I thought we could grab some breakfast from the diner, after we find an apartment for you?”

You flushed as you glanced over at him to find that he was wearing black rimmed glasses that made him look even more handsome, “sure, as long as we can get pancakes.”

Peter chuckled and raised an eyebrow as he leaned against the wall and put a hand over his heart, “I promise.”

“You don’t have to rush away,” May started and you looked back over at her, “you can stay here for a couple more days if you want.”

“No, thank you, you’ve already done so much for me,” you smiled.

“If you’re sure, sweetheart. Just don’t be a burden, okay?” she smiled as she gave you a hug.

“So,” Peter began as he started the car, “have you got any idea of what you want in an apartment?”

You thought about it for a second, you didn’t want to move somewhere so expensive that you’d blow the money you had in a couple of months. But, then again you didn’t want to stay somewhere that was infested with rats.

“Somewhere inexpensive, but clean. I don’t really fancy having a couple of rats as my roommates, the little bastards don’t pay rent.”

Peter laughed out loud as he glanced over at you, the smile reached his eyes and you grinned back as he looked back at the road, “duly noted. I know some apartments by the park which are pretty cheap and clean but they’re small.”

You shrugged as you sat back in the car seat, “I don’t mind small, after all it’s only me.”

Peter was right, they were small but they were light, in a good area and they had beautiful views of the park, and you hoped there would be less chances of getting mugged in this area. It wasn’t until you reached the top floor that you fell in love, the views were breath-taking and you could picture yourself having a hot coffee on the balcony every morning as you listened to the hustle and bustle of the city.

You smiled as you turned around and faced Peter who stood in the doorway, “this is the one! Look at the views, they’re amazing!”

Peter grinned and went to stand at your side, looking at you with those chocolate brown doe eyes, “yeah, they are. C’mon let’s go and speak to the landlord,” the landlord was kind of sketchy but he took your cash, asking no questions and as you were walking out of the building with Peter, he muttered to you, “you let me know if he gives you any trouble.”

The diner that Peter took you too was so cute and it smelled so good as soon as you walked through the door and heard the little bell tinkle, you were craving pancakes. You could have cried when you saw they had salted caramel pancakes with vanilla ice cream on the side. It was barely 10 in the morning but you wanted those pancakes.

Peter looked at you with amusement as you stuck another forkful of the fluffy pancake into your mouth and almost moaned, they were so damn good, “are they good?” he chuckled as he took a sip of his coffee. Peter took his coffee black which totally grossed you out.

“So good! Do you want some?” you asked, laughing when Peter grimaced and ran a hand through his fluffy hair.

“Nah, far too sweet for me.”

“Peter Parker, is that you?” your ears practically perked up when you heard the slow attractive drawl. How could a voice be attractive? A beautiful woman with long silver blonde hair and dark lipstick walked up to Peter with a smirk on her face.

“Oh hey, Felicia,” Peter sounded less than thrilled, “how are you?” you exchanged glances and you could tell that he was only asking to be polite.

“I’m good, how are you?” she asked, completely ignoring you.

“I’m good,” Peter forced a smile as he nodded over at you, “Felicia, this is Y/N.”

Felicia’s pretty eyes landed on you and you were very aware of the sticky caramel sauce that you felt on your lips, “nice to meet you,” you smiled.

“Uh huh,” she looked back at Peter, “I’ll see you later, Pete,” she kissed him on the cheek, leaving a dark lipstick stain.

Peter watched her go and then looked back at you, biting his lip, “we aren’t friends exactly,” he laughed, and for some reason, right then was when you realised with a jolt that you really didn’t know anything about Peter. He was practically a stranger.

Tell Him Anything - Peter Parker

Pairing:Peter Parker x Reader

Summary: When your little brother wants to meet his favourite superhero, you have to go to the only person who can help. Peter Parker.

Warnings: fluff, angst, swearing, mentions of death

Words:2312

A/N:Hope you guys enjoy this, and please let me know what you think, I love you all! xxx

For if he knew
How much I love him,
No power on Earth
Could make him stay.

———————————–

You smiled at Aaron, your ten-year-old brother as he excitedly ran out of his elementary school, a beaming smile on his face. You held out your arms wide and he ran into them. As you held him tight you decided to make the most of this because in a few short years he wouldn’t want to hug you in front of his friends.

“How was school, buddy?” you grinned as Aaron pulled away from you and you noticed that he had an excited glint in his eyes.

“It was good! We learned about volcanoes!” he sighed before his little face dropped, “people were being mean again.”

Anger bubbled in your chest as you walked to your car, people weren’t very nice to your baby brother, “what were they saying this time?”

“They were saying that I’d never meet Spider-Man because I’m a nerd and he wouldn’t think I was cool.”

You almost cursed beneath your breath as you started up the car, kids could be so cruel, you wanted to help your brother out. He deserved to meet his hero, so you concocted a plan, “don’t worry, Aaron, I’ll make it right.”

The next day you didn’t have work so you were able to set your plan into motion, unfortunately for you, you had to go to the one person who you knew was in contact with Spider-Man. Peter Parker. You and Peter never really got on with one another when you were in school together and it was completely your fault.

As you walked into The Daily Bugle office, Eddie Brock was smirking at you from where he sat, “and what do you want, beautiful Y/N?”

There was something about Eddie Brock that was unnerving but you just couldn’t put your finger on it, “I need to see Peter, where is he?” you sighed, wanting to roll your roll your eyes but you didn’t want to come off as rude.

“On his break.”

“Oh,” you bit your lip, as you made to leave, “will you tell Peter that I came by?”

“Why do you need to see me Y/L/N?” a snarky voice made you turn around to see Peter smirking at you. He looked so good that you were momentarily thrown off guard.

“I can come back,” you jabbed your thumb at the door.

Peter shrugged nonchalantly, “what’s the point of that when you’re here now?” when you didn’t have an answer he smirked again, “come on,” he took you out into the corridor, “so, talk,” he raised an eyebrow as he leaned against the wall with folded arms.

“I needed a favour, Parker.”

The handsome young man scoffed before he started laughing without humour “seriously? After all this time, you come to see me so you can ask a favour? You’re a real piece of work, Y/N.”

Irritation quickly bubble in your chest as you narrowed your eyes at him, “you know what? Forget it, I’ll do it myself, I don’t want to owe you anything,” you spat and turned to walk away.

You jumped a little when Peter put the flat of his hand on the door you were trying to open, “wait, Y/N. What is it?”

You sighed and turned back to face him, “technically, the favour isn’t for me. You can get in contact with Spider-Man right? After all, you take his picture for the paper.”

For a split second, Peter’s face fell and his eyes were wounded, he looked like a lost puppy, “this is about Spider-Man?” his voice was strained and he heaved a sigh when you nodded, “fine, go ahead.”

You bit your lip, trying to figure out where to start, “my little brother Aaron is getting picked on in school, he’s a little nerdy but his favourite person in the whole world – apart from me of course – is Spider-Man,” you hesitated.

“What are you trying to say, Y/N?” you could tell that he was getting impatient.

“I just think it might be cool if he could meet Spider-Man, I really think that it would mean the world to him.”

Peter was silent for a second as his eyes found the floor and you knew that this was a bad idea, “sorry, Peter. I shouldn’t have asked, Spider-Man is so busy, he doesn’t have time for house calls,” you laughed nervously as you began to back away, stopping when Peter spoke up.

“When and where?” he muttered as he lifted his head to make eye contact with you.

“I’ll write my address down. Friday night, I’m making dinner at half five if he’d like to come for it.”

Peter laughed, a real laugh that made his cheeks dimple and the smile reached his eyes, “I’ll tell him to get to your place for quarter past six.”

“Thanks, Peter I really appreciate it.”

Peter nodded, “you’re welcome.”

Friday rolled around and you were so excited, Aaron’s eyes lit up as he talked about Spider-Man he just needed a little bit of hope. At quarter past six, like clockwork the doorbell rang and you smiled when you saw Spider-Man standing on your porch. It was so surreal seeing the masked hero up close.

“Hi,” you stuttered.

“Y/N?” he asked and you heard the smile in his voice.

You nodded dumbly, you were a little star struck, “sorry, um,” you flushed and laughed, “thank you so much for coming, I really appreciate it,” you smiled and the masked hero nodded.

“Of course, I promised Peter that I would,” he hesitated as he briefly looked at the floor before looking back up at you, “how do you want me to do this? Do you want me to surprise your brother?”

You shook your head rapidly, you didn’t want him to think that you were taking advantage of him, “no, I don’t to parade you around like a show pony. Would you like to come through the front door? I know that you’re probably not used to it,” you smirked as you gestured for him to come inside.

Spider-Man laughed as he stepped over the threshold, he had a nice laugh, it made you feel all warm inside but there was something that was oddly familiar about it. As you took Spider-Man through your house you smiled as you could hear Aaron reading out loud to himself. You hovered in the doorway with Spider-Man standing behind you.

“Aaron?” your brother looked up at you, “there’s someone here to see you,” you grinned, stepping to the side and Aaron gasped.

“Mr Spider-Man!”

“Hey, buddy!” Spider-Man stepped into the living room, you could hear the smile in his voice as he knelt down to Aaron’s level and gave him a hug, “it’s Aaron, right?”

Aaron gasped again and he glanced over at you, “Y/N! He knows my name!” Aaron looked up at his hero with adoration in his eyes.

“He does, sweetheart!”

Aaron’s demeanour changed almost instantly as he looked between you and Spider-Man, and you understood immediately. He wanted to speak to his hero alone but he wanted you to be close, “I’ll be right here, sweetie,” you gestured to the stairs. If you sat on the stairs, you would be able to see Aaron but you wouldn’t be able to hear their conversation.

Aaron’s face transformed with a bright smile as he nodded. It was so cute knowing that Aaron was talking to his hero and though you couldn’t hear what they were saying, you could hear Aaron’s little giggle every now and then.

When Aaron showed Spider-Man the volcano he made in school you heard the superhero exclaim, “wow, bud! That is the coolest thing ever!”

When it was time for Aaron to do his homework, he gave his hero a big hug, “bye, Mr Spider-Man, thank you for coming to see me!”

“You’re welcome bud! It was so good to meet you,” he held his hand in the air for a high five, Aaron giggled as he smacked his hand against Spider-Man’s, “you’re the coolest guy I know!”

The delighted smile that Aaron shot Spider-Man almost made you cry as your brother went upstairs. You nervously laughed, suddenly feeling shy now that you and Spider-Man were alone, “are you hungry? I’ve got leftovers.”

Spider-Man shook his head, “no thank you, I’m not really that hungry,” about a second later his stomach rumbled.

You smirked as you teased the hero, “my, my, Spidey! I didn’t think you were a liar, come on, let me get you something to eat. You don’t have to take your mask off properly,” you had expected him to protest but he said nothing as you took him through to the kitchen. You fixed him a plate and got him a soda.

“Thanks, Y/N,” he lifted his mask so it was just above his lips, he had the prettiest mouth you’d ever seen, lips that were begging to be kissed, “Aaron’s a really good kid.”

You grinned, glowing with pride at the compliment, “he’s the best.”

Spider-Man took a sip of his soda, “so, Peter told me that you went to high school together but that you didn’t get on or something?”

You nodded, biting your lip, “yes. We didn’t get on and it’s my fault,” you didn’t like reliving the memory but you decided that you should finally talk about it.

“What do you mean?” Spider-Man frowned.

“Can I tell you something?” when Spider-Man nodded you continued, “but you can’t tell Peter and it might be too much information but I need to tell someone.”

Spider-Man’s lips quirked into a smile, “you can tell me, Y/N, you don’t know who I am so it’ll be a lot easier because you won’t care what I think. I promise I won’t tell Peter, scouts honour,” he did a mock salute which made you laugh.

“Okay,” you take a deep breath, “it all started when I first met Peter at thirteen, I fell in love with him almost instantly, he was the most beautiful boy that I’d ever seen. At the time I was having a really shitty time, Aaron had just been born and our piece of shit dad dumped us at our Uncle’s who couldn’t care less about us,” you paused when you realised how shocked Spider-Man looked.

“You were in love with Peter?” he asked, his voice going up an octave.

“I still am,” you laughed, and it was true, you still loved him, “but I didn’t trust guys, especially not handsome ones, and he was so nice, he walked me to class after I got lost on my first day. I didn’t want to get rejected by him so I started acting like I hated him.”

“Y/N,” Spider-Man trailed off and you could hear the judgement in his voice.

“I know, I know it was shitty but you have to understand, I couldn’t let myself be hurt by him, I never would have come back from it, it would have been too painful. And, I knew that as soon as I turned 18 I’d have to get a place of my own with Aaron, so I really had no time for boys.”

“So, what about when you’d settled? You’re still at odds with each other aren’t you?”

You nodded with a sigh as you leaned against the kitchen counter, “I guess it was just easier.”

“What if Peter felt the same?”

“He doesn’t,” he sighed, you wished that he did but you knew that there was no way.

“He does,” Spider-Man muttered quietly.

“How do you know that?” you narrowed your eyes at him, “did Peter tell you that?” you wouldn’t let yourself hope, not even for a second.

“Not exactly,” he sighed, “I can’t believe I’m doing this,” he pulled off his mask.

Shock ran through your body as you stared at the unmasked hero with an open mouth, those puppy dog brown eyes stared at you, “Peter? H-how…” the expression on Peter’s face made you trail off.

“How could you do that to me? I loved you from the first moment I saw you,” he sighed and you could only stare, you thought that you would pass out from the shock, “it didn’t matter that you seemed to hate me. Then, I met and fell for Gwen and I didn’t think about you anymore, it was almost a relief that I didn’t love the girl who hated me. Then Gwen died and I was broken but when I thought it was time to move on, you were there again. You’ve always been there Y/N, I love you.”

“Why?” you teared up and sniffled, you didn’t want to cry in front of Peter, “why when I’ve been so terrible to you?”

“Because I know what a good person you are, you’ve been raising a little gentleman, you’ve put your life all on hold to raise your little brother,” he reached out to wipe away the tears that were sliding down your cheeks, “I knew there must have been something going on, but I was too afraid to ask.”

“I’m so sorry,” you whispered as you leaned into his touch, “I love you, Peter. Can you forgive me?”

Peter only smiled as he cupped your chin and leaned in to give you the gentlest kiss you’d ever experienced, when he pulled away he leaned his forehead against yours, “I’m not going to hurt you, Y/N.”

You smiled, you believed him, you believed this beautiful man standing in front of you, offering his heart. Suddenly, a flash of blue and the noise of sirens going past your house broke the moment.

“Go get ‘em, tiger,” you laughed as Peter gave you one more kiss and pulled on his mask.

“I’ll call you,” you could hear the smile in his voice as he climbed out of your kitchen window, swinging on his webs, a vision in red and blue against the navy night sky.

Before requesting a fic or headcanons, please make sure that you have fully read through these rules and assured that the character or characters you are requesting are on my writing list.

Rules:

  • I am currently only writing fics based off of prompts
  • If the request is for a prompt, please do not send in a bunch of extra plot requests with it, as this really limits my ability to be creative in my writing
  • If you send in a request for a fic please include the prompt number (unless the prompt doesn’t have a number), the prompt itself, the character you are requesting, and your preferred pronouns
  • While I do ask that you include your preferred pronouns in your request, my fics will often be gender-neutral, only using ‘you’. I still ask that you send in pronouns just in case the fic needs to be more specific when it comes to gender
  • Only request fics or headcannons when requests are open. If requests are not open I will delete the request
  • Only request for characters that I write for
  • Just because I used to write for a character does mean that I do anymore. The current list of characters I write for is below
  • Please don’t pester me about when your request will be finished, it will only make it harder for me to find the motivation to write

  • I do not write about eating disorders, self harm, suicidal ideations, or other related topics as I find these subjects especially triggering
