Ranuuk Ragemonger

Once a berserker of Clan Kolaghan, Ranuuk had succumbed to the Crave and sought nothing but carnage for much of his adult life. His rage was finally sated when he was swallowed whole by a hellkite, and tore his way out of its chest with the dragon’s heart in tow. The euphoria Ranuuk felt as he bit into the heart was enough to trigger his spark and he appeared in the mountains of Arachis. Ranuuk collapsed into the snow, as the bloodlust that fueled his rampage subsided, the Crave expunged from his body and mind. He would have died, had a band of warrior monks not found the broken orc soon after. Taken to their hidden monastery, Ranuuk was nursed back to health and was trained to control his rage through meditation. Joining the monks in their crusade against the undead, Ranuuk scours the Multiverse for those that live in death, hoping to experience the euphoria of his spark igniting once more.

Koris, Hexbane Paladin

The fortress citadel of the elves looms across the lush fields of Khaital; the inhabitants there, ruled by a monarch referred to only as the Empress. One elf in particular; the youngest child of a noble family, born deaf and mute, had little future prospects beyond being married off to some stuffy bureaucrat, was found instead to have the makings of a Nullwarden. These knights were the citadel’s protectors and commanded the power of anti-magic; recruiting young elves as their squires, and preparing them for the rigorous training ahead. On the eve ascension, this child of nobles would cast aside his assigned birthname, choosing to carry the new moniker, Koris, and the ritual to transform the aspirant squires into proper wardens was upon him. However, as the runes of anti-magic were fully carved into his skin, Koris’ spark would ignite, sending him to Bant.

Kless, Shaman of Avarice

Once a well known socialite of the Sultai aristocracy, Kless spent much of her younger years worrying about nothing but the accumulation of her own wealth. However, as with any member of the Sultai who grows too big for their britches, an attempted assassination revealed to Kless the most valuable object in her possession: her spark. Appearing in the untamed wilderness outside Lexalia’s capital city, Kless lamented the loss of her vast fortune and turned to a life of meditation and shamanism. Acting as a wise witch for the outcasts of Lexalia, she hoarded new valuables not for the sake of wealth but to extend her own life. Absorbing the latent aether and mana laced within ancient artifacts and gems, Kless pushed her lifespan far beyond that of her kin. It would be centuries before her presence was finally acknowledged by Lexalia’s ruler Kerridun, and the sphinx would bring her into the plane’s service.

Gork, Goblin Guildmage

Deep within the bowels of Ravnica’s undercity was a series of Rakdos owned fighting rings; with a trio of goblin brothers’ being one of their star attractions. These brothers fought day in and out in the hopes of earning their eventual freedom; however, a rigged bout against a pair of trolls resulted in the deaths of two of them. Unbeknownst to the surviving brother Neeg, the youngest sibling Gork possessed a planeswalker’s spark and was whisked away to Tarkir. Having to survive on his own for several months, Gork eventually learned to travel the Multiverse and returned to Ravnica. Resolved to set his brother free, Gork joined the Boros Legion, and rose through its ranks at an impressive speed for his kind. Once he felt that he had the strength and skill to oppose the Rakdos, Gork and his brother Neeg staged a rebellion, resulting in the collapse of the dreadful bloodsport, with Neeg remaking it into a more legitimate combat circuit. Paying homage to their fallen brother, the goblins went their separate ways, with Gork being gifted an angel’s flaming blade, and eventually, the rank of guildmage.

Marik, Witherbloom Archdruid

A laidback instructor at Strixhaven, Marik practices the art and science of alchemy while tutoring students wishing to join Witherbloom. Originally from Alara, Marik lived a rather peaceful and quiet life; as peaceful as one could be on Grixis. The Conflux however was the catalyst needed to trigger his spark, which sent Marik to Lexalia and brought him under the gaze of it’s ruler, Kerridun. Marik was sent to Arcavios as a Strixhaven professor to discover what the plane had learned of planeswalkers; however his espionage was cut short when uncovering an Oriq plot to harvest the sparks of several young students attending Strixhaven. Having foiled this scheme single handedly, Marik had unexpectedly become one of the more popular teachers of Witherbloom; with even a handful of students from the other colleges wanting to learn a thing or two from this strange new professor.

Iris, Voice of Thunder

A siren born without a voice, Iris was an outcast of her flock ever since childhood. Her silent prayers for a brilliant singing voice went unanswered for much of her life until they were eventually heard by the God of Storms. Keranos granted Iris her wish, but as she opened her lips to sing for the first time, a tempest of rage and lightning emerged, scouring all before her, including her flock. The shock of such horror had triggered her spark, sending Iris to Ravnica. There she came in contact with Kerridun’s consortium, offering solace and protection in exchange for her service to the great sphinx.

Pitch Eyes, Bearer of the Blades

The adoptive daughter of an elderly samurai couple, Pitch Eyes spent her early childhood as a street urchin, stealing to survive until she was found by her foster parents. The nezumi girl grew curious of the strange martial arts her parents once employed, which led her to the discovery of Spirit Blades; ancient magical swords from Old Kamigawa that had survived to its neon age. Desiring to claim one of these weapons for her own, Pitch Eyes was corrupted by the malevolent spirit contained within her mother’s blade. In an act of desperation, the samurai couple performed a ritual to craft a new spirit blade, hoping to exorcise the dark spirit from their daughter. Their plan was a success, however as the new blade was bound to her, Pitch Eyes’ spark ignited, sending her, and both swords to Creta.

Rildra, Multiverse Minstrel

A wandering bard of Theros, Rildra travelled the realm as a devout and fanatical follower of the Xenagos. Her festivals were widely known across Theros, and her music was said to greatly amplify the emotions of those who hear it. Rildra’s devotion was so strong, that when the rest of Theros rose up against her deity, she was one of the first believers struck down; assassinated at the largest and greatest of her revelries. Had Rildra not possessed a spark, her story would have ended there; instead, she took her survival as having been blessed by the God of Revels, and spreads her music across the Multiverse.

Dodan, Goliath of Dreadflame

Once a volunteer soldier during the Brothers’ War, a critical injury forced Dodan the giant into early retirement; a blessing in disguise given the war’s conclusion. Years of recovery and inactivity had left the giant docile and amenable, when before he lived only for combat. Later in life after having formed a family, Dodan had cause to pick up the sword once more, this time in defense, against the Phyrexian invasion. The bodies of the malformed machines were piled high around his abode, a dread flame burning within the giant’s heart once more; until at last it consumed the remainder of Dodan’s strength, and igniting his spark.

Sky Dancer, Cloudborne Matriarch

The great mountains of Creta are home to a vast flock of harpies, ruled by their enigmatic matriarch known as Sky Dancer. Atop the vast peaks she sits upon her perch, her unequaled powers of persuasion cause thousands of the plane’s inhabitants to journey there to either serve or earn her favour. Very few have actually had the privilege to gaze upon her form, as Sky Dancer is a planeswalker who spends little time warming her throne; choosing instead to traverse the Multiverse in search of new forms of entertainment.

Enkai, Fractal Artificer

A vedalken artificer that hailed from Mirrodin before its fall, Enkai sought out a way to cure her people of blinkmoth addiction for most of her life. She might have eventually succeeded had the phyrexians not conquered the plane. Captured and gazing upon the ruined world that was now New Phyrexia, Enkai would have succumbed to compleation had her spark not ignited. Arriving on Kaladesh, Enkai met with Kerridun, who in exchange for her knowledge of phyrexians, agreed to take part in the sphinxes Archive project, and construct the Map of the Multiverse.

Kerridun, Architect of Lexalia

In an age long passed, on a plane long forgotten, there lived a being named Kerridun; the last of her kind. Her species; the sphinxes, were hunted to extinction for their wings and bones, a fate Kerridun would have shared, had her spark not ignited when her own wings were torn from her body. Now a planeswalker of nigh-omnipotent power, Kerridun set about bringing order to the Multiverse, beginning with her own plane. With her people extinct, she saw no value left of her homeworld, reducing the entirety of the plane and its inhabitants into their base elements, using them to forge her new, perfect world: Lexalia. This plane would serve as her base of operations and archive for all knowledge of the Multiverse. Through these records would Kerridun deem which planes were worthy of existence, and which were not. A monumental task even for one as powerful as her, Kerridun set about recruiting and in some cases, conscripting other planeswalkers from various worlds to assist her in this endeavor, thus forming the Lexalian Archivists.

Buzuga, Djinn of Many Wishes

There once was a vagrant who lived on Rabiah, who found himself in possession of a magic lamp; a lamp that was in fact, the domicile of the djinn known as Buzuga. Normally a fickle and mischievous being, twisting the wishes of his various masters, Buzuga found himself endeared to this street rat, who, despite his poor social standing, would only ever make wishes to the benefit of others. Buzuga kept the boy healthy and well fed, as the pair travelled the plane improving the lives of the less fortunate. Years would pass, and eventually the vagrant would be on his deathbed, having lived a life of benevolence, never having made the slightest of selfish requests to the djinn. His final act was to Buzuga himself, freeing him from his bindings. This wish would cause Buzuga’s spark to ignite, sending him and his lamp into the Multiverse.

Formerly a backup dancer of a Kamigawan idol group, Nami spent many months writing and perfecting her own songs in the hopes of one day taking center stage herself. When she was finally given the opportunity, Nami poured her heart and soul into the performance, resulting in deafening cheers from the planewide audience, causing her spark to ignite. Arriving in the Prismari campus at Strixhaven, Nami applied to the college to earn a more formal education while improving on her musical and magical talents.

Skisui, Disciple of the Dawn

The world of Arachis is comprised of a series of mountainous island chains inhabited by a race of driders, who worship the spider god Arach. Skisui, a young acolyte of the faith was set to begin a pilgrimage across the isles in order to be fully inducted into her church. However, during her travels, Skisui’s ship was struck by a terrible storm, knocking her overboard. Moments from drowning, Skisui’s spark ignited, sending her to Amonkhet. Far from the protective bubble of the city, Skisui developed a talent for summoning; bringing final peace to many hordes of the wandering dead. When the Hour of Devastation shattered what remained of the plane, Skisui was rescued inadvertently by the wandering monk Ranuuk. Though their methods differed, the two shared the same goal of putting the living dead to rest, and thus began travelling the Multiverse together.

Cressa, Magma Speaker

Beneath Khaital’s vast and endless oceans lies the empire of the Merfolk. Centered around a colossal underwater volcano, these deep-sea dwellers rarely venture to the surface, completely cut off from the events that occur on the plane’s single landmass. Cressa, a humble oracle, lived her life within the dormant volcano’s caverns offering guidance and wisdom to her kin that make the pilgrimage within. Upon witnessing her home and the object of her people’s faith erupt for the first time in centuries, Cressa’s spark ignited sending her to Ixalan. Believing herself to be blessed now with the ability to walk on land, Cressa attempted to befriend the merfolk of this new world, however the geomancy she so easily employed on Khaital wreaked far greater destruction on Ixalan causing her to be ostracized and often hunted. Eventually, Cressa was delivered from danger by the sphinx Kerridun, who conscripted her into documenting the oceans and seas of the Multiverse.

Minerva, Butcher of Titans

Ever since she was young, Minerva wanted to be a famous adventurer. She would perform tasks and chores for her tribe day in and day out for hours on end until she could afford her very first weapon. This greatsword would serve Minerva well for many years, as many ogre smiths could attest. The fame Minerva garnered however, was not exactly what she was hoping for; becoming well known as the useful errand girl rather than a fearless explorer of the unknown. She resolved then, to delve deep into the expanse that was Creta’s underground; deeper than any of her kin or other denizens of Creta dared to trek. Encountering a titanic behemoth that dwelled in the darkness, Minerva battled the creature for what felt like days, before managing to impale her sword into its skull. The exhilaration she felt was enough to trigger her spark sending her off into the Multiverse, where she eventually met her fellow planeswalkers Serica and Pitch Eyes. The corpse of the behemoth became a monument to her, and Minerva’s tribe would be known as the tribe who bore the Butcher of Titans.
