calling bernardo inhuman and a “misogynistic brute,” & saying that it makes it hard to root for any of the sharks? ohhhh do NOT piss me off (she goes on to call the jets “human” and “flawed” with no mention of their own toxic masculinity, misogyny, racism, and xenophobia btw)

Cool so we’re just not hiding the racism anymore.

my jaw DROPPED like i genuinely think screeners of this movie went out with a completely different plot and characters to some people

Bernardo is incredibly sympathetic and he’s not misogynistic for wanting to protect his little sister as he feels she doesn’t know better. MOC can’t express anger at their oppressors without being labeled as a “brute” or “aggressive” in both films he was at the hands of racism and he had no choice but to fight back. Bernardo is not always in the right but that doesn’t make him a bad character it makes him a realistic one.

he’s incredibly human and so much of his protectiveness comes from a place of national pride & desire to protect his family from the racism that he knows they’re subject to. he isn’t misogynistic for trying to defend maría, and he DEFINITELY isn’t misogynistic for wanting to marry & have kids with anita

Moon Struck

Summary: Steven asks you out, Marc falls in love.

““Cheers,” Steven chirps quietly, ignoring Marc. He knows he has a goofy smile on his face, he knows that he’s just staring at you.

But you’re smiling back and Marc is strangely quiet now, a glow of happiness lingers there. Steven has a suspicion that he’s happy too, basking in the fact that you said yes.”

Pairing:Steven Grant x Reader, Marc Spector x Reader

Word Count: ~8.3k

Warnings: mostly fluff, canon-typical violence, threats of violence, angst mostly from Marc because he’s just like that

A/N: My first moon knight fic! Please, please, please let me know what you think!

“Steven!”

Steven ignores the shout of his headmate as he hurries through the museum.

He’s late, and he so hated making you wait for him. He had promised you long ago a personal tour of the museum. One you had insisted for months he eventually give you, when he had time.

His heels drag, Marc putting on the brakes as he fronts for just a moment.

Steven nearly drops the travel cup of tea he’s carrying, briefly tripping over his own feet and drawing the attention of several nearby people listening to a museum tour guide.

“Sorry!” He gives an awkward wave before continuing on.

“Would you stop that, Marc!” He glances at his reflection in the display case he’s passing. “You’re making us late.”

“I’m making you late. I didn’t agree to this.” Marc’s shoulders are tense, the line of his brows drawn together.

Steven wonders if he’s wearing the same expression and briefly passes a hand over his face. He doesn’t want to be scowling when-

He bursts through a doorway, into the Egyptian exhibition, and spots you waiting exactly where you said you would be.

A shy smile tugs at his mouth, and he tries straightening his shirt collar and running a hand through his unruly curls. He knows it’s useless, that his shirts are perpetually wrinkled and his hair nearly always a mess.

something about marc going to every length to protect steven from the knowledge of his role as moon knight, including resetting all of the sleepwalking alarms, buying a new goldfish, and fronting long enough to convince him the incident in the alps was a dream, all presumably to offer them a chance at a normal life. then, when the knowledge can no longer be avoided, patiently calming steven down enough to take care of the monster in the museum… it just made me very emotional idk about y’all

I think a lot about the feedback debate in fandom.

And this comes from me having fallen into the “hits are people running away” spiral less than a year ago. I’m here because I was there, recently.

Kudos specifically gets me, though.

There’s this push for people to kudos every fic they finish reading because “It’s the least you can do” or “you owe the author if you read all the way through”, along with some “kudos aren’t good enough, you have to leave a comment”

and I think as @ao3commentoftheday said in the linked post, this is people devaluing kudos. A kudos is literally identical to a comment that reads “Kudos! ❤”

It’s supposed to be a signifier that someone liked your work. It kinda waters down the meaning to consider it an obligation, and the overwhelming majority of people do not use kudos as a way to mark that they finished a work.

But if you’re inundated with people making the argument that kudos should be used as a “made it through the fic” marker rather than a comment reading “kudos! ❤”, kudoses lose their impact. If you imagine them as an obligation, they cease to be a compliment.

And if that’s the slurry you’re in, of course you feel unappreciated and invisible. That’s a totally reasonable conclusion to come to, if you don’t know that very few people devalue kudos that way. Of course it hurts if you think a kudos simply means “I read this”!

And I get why people want readers to understand how authors feel. I really, really do. There’s always a nonzero number of people in fandom who simply haven’t thought about how much it would mean to the author to get a comment, and hearing “authors love comments!!” can be really helpful!

But I do wish that we as authors would put a little more effort into reciprocating that understanding.

I want to talk about this one moment in OFMD episode 10.

Mary just tried to murder Stede in his sleep. It seemed to her like the only way to get out of the marriage that she couldn’t stand and free herself to live her own life with the man she loves. But Stede woke up - and now they’re finally talking about their situation.

Most importantly, Stede admits to himself - and to Mary - that he’s in love with Ed.

Mary - she smiles a little, and then she hugs him.

That’s the moment she getshim. Stede is not the enemy. He’s just as unhappy as she is. They both want out of this marriage. He’s just had a difficult journey to admit what he does want (twice!), because his actual desires are so taboo. And when it finally clicks for him, it also clicks for her.

I love that little hug. It’s a hug of solidarity. They’re both caught in a web of societal rules, but they don’t have to be enemies. In a different situation, they could even be friends. And after that moment of understanding, they go on to solvetheir situation.
