Fewer Traffic Collisions During Shutdown Means Longer Waits For Organ Donations

On Day Two of the San Francisco Bay Area’s stay-at-home orders in March, Nohemi Jimenez got into her car in San Pablo, California, waved goodbye to her 3-year-old son and drove to her regular Wednesday dialysis appointment.

The roads were deserted. No traffic. Jimenez, 30, said it is hard to admit what she thought next: No traffic meant no car accidents. And that meant she’d be on the waiting list for a kidney transplant even longer.

“I don’t want to be mean, but I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Nobody’s going to die,’” she said. “I’m not going to get my transplant.”

Life is Like a Sci-Fi Movie

Welcome to the Thomas School of surgical medicine an hospital . The latest you see in surgical procedures and transplants.

I’m Dr. Josh Taylor

We are a small Hi-Tech start-of-the-art medical teaching school for surgical medicine. Here we develop products and techniques that help in the operating room. With the use of lasers computers and other device is making the operating room more productive and helpful in the survival rate of the patient much higher.

Here I am with my hand selected interns.

These 4 are something else. Upper left is Jonathan the Pretty Boy of the group always making the moves. Upper right is Neil brains of the outfit also known as The Geek. He very gifted. The rest of the team sees him as a nerd and likes to pick on him. Bottom left is Joe more in the gym working out then anywhere else. Bottom right is Richard. He’s in the fitness and likes to run and swim and is heavily into proper nutrition. He is tallest of the group.

One of the things is to become part of this program you have to sign a waiver. This is a transplant training facility. You volunteer as a blood donor to bone marrow. Even part of a liver or kidney to save another life.

They also signed the paper to be donors if something ever happened to them. And when we’re done harvesting anything and everything that we needed from them. They would have their remaining body cremated and returned to the family member.

I have them working as a team. I can’t have them working as individuals or they won’t learn anything this way. They also will learn from each other and they teach others what they know.

Day after day is a working experience with patients coming in and out the surgery in specialized treatments, specialized surgery needs that they can’t get at the normal hospital. We also are asked to travel to a hospital to perform surgery that we are specialized in.

Been kind of slow here and the boys have been getting kind of antsy. I’ve been trying to keep them all busy. But when they’re bored they get up to mischief. They enjoy to pick on Neil since he’s the brains of the outfit. They see him as the nerd and you pick on nerds.

I decided to send them on home there is no use for them today. NEAL took off first started walking towards home.

I can’t believe how quite this place has I hardly see any staff members.

Jonathan, Joe, and Richard hoppen to Joe’s Car and head towards home.

I decided to stay back at the hospital in case something happened and then they needed me. Sitting in the Doctors Lounge watching TV. I found an old black-and-white sci-fi movie so perfect for this place. I was a teenage Frankenstein was on. Doctor Frankenstein uses parts of different teenagers to make a teenager perfect specimen.

Jonathan, Joe and Richard were in a mischievous mood when they left, so I don’t know what they’re going or be doing.

As the boys are driving. Joe saw Neil walking down the side of the road. They decided to play a little game chicken with him. Using the car to play tag. I don’t think it’s a very good idea but boys will be boys.

Neil started running and swerving and trying to dodge them. Joe would stop the car and let Neil get a head start then they go after him again. Being on a country roads with the gravel sides that Neil was walking on. Joe gave Neil at lease of running chance of avoiding them.

Boys are sitting at the side of the road laughing their heads off just from the look on Neil’s face as he was dodging them. That’s when they noticed he got pretty far ahead of them they don’t know how he got there that fast. So they decide to step on it.

Joe is on Neal’s tail driving on the side of the road. That’s when he lost control of the car. The car went off the road and flipped over a few times. Joe was the only one still in the car when the ambulance arrived not knowing the other two boys were thrown from the car and into the brush on the side of the road along with Neil.

All four of them we’re transferred back to the hospital. Dr. Josh Taylor stood at the door away as they came in. He didn’t recognize Joe because his face was bashed in from the crash. Severe Blow to the head both legs severely broken.

It was when Jonathan and Richard entered he knew they were his boys. Jonathan had severe chest injuries and a blow to the head.. I’m being thrown from the car in his chest hitting a large rock. Pretty much breaking all his ribs and damaging his lungs and other internal damages.

Richard was in sad State also his arms were broken I think his neck was broken pretty bad along with his ribs and spine. I don’t think he’ll survive from those injuries. you can barely tell since half his face was crushed.

Last was Neil. He had the most injuries of all of them of all of them. His body was a total mess. The only part of him as that didn’t show any damage with his head.

The police informed Josh. Looks like Joe was driving and lost control and flipped over and the boys flew out of the car.

The hospital staff went to work but there was not much they could do for any of them.

Even having them all on life support wasn’t going to do much butvsustain their lives a few short hours. Waiting for each one pass on. Going to be harvested for what organs and tissues that are available from them before their bodies are cremated and I can go home.

Josh just stood in the hospital hallway all four of his interns laying there waiting for them to die.

Went into the Doctors Lounge for a cup of coffee in the movie seem to been on repeat and being aired again. Looking at “I am a teenage Frankenstein” it got him thinking. There’s enough there I can take from each student and make at least one survivor.

He stood in front of all for interns deciding what he needed to do.

You looked at Joe’s body the one that was in the best shape out of all of them, since he stayed within the car is like they’re the only legs where broken and his face was smashed from the steering wheel probably brain damaged too.

Looking over at the other three notice Richards legs were perfectly intact. Transplanting Richard’s legs on the Joe’s body.

He harvested Richard for whatever working organs we’re able to be used for someone else outside the hospital sent them on their way. Logging in his time of death.

It took a few hours but it was done job. Joe’s body was in a perfect shape. Now with Richard legs.

He looked at Joe’s face which was smashed in when he hit the steering wheel. His eyes were totally dark and he wasn’t receiving much brain activity . Life support was the only thing keeping Joe alive.

He looked over at Jonathan the Pretty Boy of the group and you said I had no choice. It was the first time I ever done anything like this but he will removed Jonathan’s head from his body the only part of his body that didn’t show any damage so we thought.

He went back over the Joe and surgically removed his head and replaced it with Jonathan’s this took quite a few hours. Thank God for the computer age in the use of lasers. This is the first transplant of its kind.

Was he able to save at least one of them with all the work he’s done so far. That’s when he noticed a brain activity in Jonathan’s head which now is Joe was slowing down. A quick scan showed major brain damage. He must have hit his head.

He looked over at Neal. Hoping he was the Saving Grace. Neal’s body showing strong brain activity.

He went over the Joe’s body surgically removing the scalp of Jonathan’s hair from the head and opening up the skull. There was a crack in the skull and definitely brain damage he would never have survived. Keeping Joe’s body on full of support.

Walking over in Neal’s body or should I say what’s left of it remove the scalp, cut open his skull exposing his brain was in perfect shape no damage.

He walked over to Jonathan’s body and open his skull removing the brain carefully. Then he went over Neil’s body and disconnected this brain. from the spinal column and all the nerve endings. Making sure he leaving enough leads on the nevres so we can reattach them into Jonathan’s head, that is now on Joe body.

Josh is done so many transplants over the years just connecting the brain to the spinal column was the easy part. Now is connecting all the nerve endings Joe’s body.

Once that part was done he took a small break and then went to work on Neal’s body see if anything was worth harvesting

Not sure whose name to put on which death certificate.

You have to look at it this way it’s Neil’s brain and Jonathan’s skull on Joe’s body

He placed Joe’s head with Jonathan’s body even though Jonathan’s face. Putting Joe name on the death certificate.

He placed Jonathan’s brain in Neal’s body other than his eyes there was not much left of him. For his body to harvest everything else was damaged when he was hit by the car.

Just now returned to Joe’s body. It now had Richards legs. Jonathan’s face and skull with Neil’s brain inside.

The brain activity was strong as he closed up the skull and surgically reattached Jonathan’s hair to the rest of this head.

The other three are passed on. Saying so long Joe, Richard and Neal. Their bodies were sent off to be cremated and returned to their family members along with their death certificates from the car crash.

Josh was just was going to keep the name Jonathan due to the facial structure of his patient. Really he was no longer Neal.

With the high-tech of modern medicine and use of lasers and computers. healing time was minimal. Waiting for the day’s for his patient to wake up to find out who he really was inside and out.

When he awoke you felt great he had a small headache but he said that would go away once all the swelling is gone away.

Seeing himself in the mirror the first time with this amazing body. The body of Joe. The legs of Richard and the face of Jonathan’s. The three guys who wanted to play tag using the car with him that day. I made him even better than he was before.

Josh instructed Neal since he had Jonathan’s face he should go as Jonathan and it would be less confusing in the paperwork.

Josh said.. It would take too much explaining he was Doctor Frankenstein and piece together four medical students to make one after a car crash that ended up killing the others.

I can’t believe the irony of it all. They wanted pick on me and make fun of me because of my great wealth of knowledge and I ended up with the best parts of their bodies.

Neil was quite satisfied being called Jonathan having his pretty boy face and the body of Joe and Richard legs. Put them together making him who he was today. Joe and Richard happen to be my roommate so I made it easy for him to move into their apartment. Beautiful apartment, nice clothes . And is now a specialized doctor. One you could talk about in medical pepers.

If you look at it, Dr. Josh Taylor was really doctor Frankenstein and I with his teenage monster. If he didn’t see that movie that night. Would he have ever thought of doing this. Or would all four of us would had perished
