So, a few of us are wrapping up a service to auto-migrate Tumblr accounts to a new stable platform. Built with scalable cloud infrastructure to carry us forward with our “explicit” content.

Hey y’all— I know the folks behind this! They’re professional developers and dedicated to making a safe hosting space for blogs that tumblr wants to purge.

Dear people planning to move to pillowfort:

As someone not involved in the development of pillowfort but am a web developer, I think you should lower your expectations, but not for the reason you think.

Pillowfort is a baby. A newborn. A smol bab. If you were here during the early days of Tumblr, think of that. 

Pillowfort simply cannot be the immediate solution to your woes. It needs to be nurtured and cared for to become a mature and happy adult. 

If you want Pillowfort to work, they’ll need feedback, advice, bug reports, etc. This is a chance to make Pillowfort the Ao3 of Fanfiction.net. It’s not gonna happen overnight, you need to give it time and love and it’ll get there. 

If you don’t want to pay money to get into the beta, that’s ok. It will be open to the public soon enough and you won’t have to pay a dime. Their financial model moving forward sounds good (a subscription fee for super extra features), but even an Ao3 model would work swell for them probably. 

We’re living in an interesting time on the internet. Governments across the world are cracking down on content and yet community run websites are starting to thrive more and more. 

Tumblr once upon a time was what Pillowfort is today, but this time, let’s make sure Pillowfort can stay independent from mega corporations. 

Be good to the bab, so one day the bab can be good to you.

Mastodon, another social media, has this thing where you basically make an account in a specific server for specific content. They’re called instances (because coding nerds I guess!)

But there isn’t a furby one! We should make a Furby Instance and just

I don’t really know how to make an instance on Mastodon, but if anyone wants to try and help organize this, I think it’d be a good thing for the community

what is prohibitive about using mastadon if you dont mind me asking? maybe we could manage it with a group effort

does mastadon give us things discord doesn’t? ive considered making a public furby server as a sort of screening space for coming to the curated servers just so. people can find the damn things

Twitter is not very fun and even though I do have one for LongFurby I rarely have her posting… (I also have an insta that I don’t use that I could repurpose but…)

I’d hate to see us all get poofed and I am rather attached to tumblr’s blog & feed/dashboard format but yknow if we have to move we have to move.

Are there any other gathering sites besides Instagram, the Aminos, pillowfort, mastodon?

Migration, Pt 1

I won’t be deleting my tumblr as of yet, and I’m assuming my risk of getting banned is pretty low, but just in case you’ll be able to find me on Twitter @hansbekhart. If you add me, I’ll add back!

I’ll be making a backup of this tumblr as soon as I’m able. Right now I’m also planning to migrate my How to Brooklyn series and other meta posts over to AO3. I’m not great with social media, so I’d be really happy if anyone has suggestions on what other platforms fandom is migrating to.

I’m still figuring out where I’ll land - I guess like everyone else, I’m watching and waiting to see where the tides take us. I don’t plan on deleting this account, but my time on all social media is sort of limited, so I’m sort of expecting I’ll only have a meaningful presence on one platform or another.

I am definitely going to moving over all of my meta to AO3, including the How to Brooklyn series, but because life is in general chaotic it may take me a few days. Gonna try and do it over the weekend! I might be coasting on the assumption that my blog is reasonably safe for work and I don’t seem to have had any posts flagged, but uh yeah. Please feel free to add me on any and all of the above, and we’ll see each other on the other side of all this dumb shit.
