Dear people planning to move to pillowfort:
As someone not involved in the development of pillowfort but am a web developer, I think you should lower your expectations, but not for the reason you think.
Pillowfort is a baby. A newborn. A smol bab. If you were here during the early days of Tumblr, think of that.
Pillowfort simply cannot be the immediate solution to your woes. It needs to be nurtured and cared for to become a mature and happy adult.
If you want Pillowfort to work, they’ll need feedback, advice, bug reports, etc. This is a chance to make Pillowfort the Ao3 of Fanfiction.net. It’s not gonna happen overnight, you need to give it time and love and it’ll get there.
If you don’t want to pay money to get into the beta, that’s ok. It will be open to the public soon enough and you won’t have to pay a dime. Their financial model moving forward sounds good (a subscription fee for super extra features), but even an Ao3 model would work swell for them probably.
We’re living in an interesting time on the internet. Governments across the world are cracking down on content and yet community run websites are starting to thrive more and more.
Tumblr once upon a time was what Pillowfort is today, but this time, let’s make sure Pillowfort can stay independent from mega corporations.

Sadly, I’m not able to use my lifewithAntionette page because Instagram blocked me! Smh. I read when you either post too much, follow too much, or comment the same thing even if it’s on your posts. It’s aggravating but I always find ways around it. I even started a new account. And guess what. Can’t even log into that one. So I’ve decided to just leave Instagram alone for now.
What makes me…
not to be earnest and sincere but using this site really is starting to feel like a genuinely unique and enjoyable experience compared to most other social media apps and how they operate now. and i think all of the cringe i used to feel at still being on tumblr after all these years is turning into unabashed fondness for the people and the environment on here
Can I list “Proficient at taking Above Average Selfies” on my resume under the skills section?
Other skills would include “Facebook Stalking,” “Twitter Creeping,” “Celebrity Gossip Maven,” and “Able to Spend Countless Hours on Tumblr.”
Things I think of regularly
- Damian is half Middle Eastern/Arab?? I feel like a vast majority of the fandom (specifically the ◻️ population ) chooses to forget this and write it out of headcanons and fanfics not to mention the white washing…
- Middle Eastern culture specifically the food is something I know Damian holds on to dearly (which is canon) and I think he introduces his brothers and sisters/ others to it.
- Same goes w Dick, who basically had his whole ethnic cultural background erased he’s ethnically half Romani and I think that should be talked about more. And if u know anything about history you know why it’s problematic to erase this part of his character
- Cass and Duke as well for extremely obvious reason
- I just think it’s incredibly important to recognize the cultural differences of the POC and marginalized groups in the DC universe because let’s be honest if it weren’t for them would people still be that interested in a white man part of the 1% running around “fighting crime”
- Damian, Duke, and Cass calling Bruce a colonizer is honestly the funniest thing to me
I’ve said a lot of this stuff before but I think some people ( *cough* ◻️ Americans) still need to be reminded of it frequently.

EDIT TO EDIT 2(wow): @hillshollow explained that the dc creators did make Bruce ethnically Jewish (don’t get on me I know that he is not practicing but that doesn’t erase his ethnic identity)!! So everything I said down below involving antisemitism applies to him and his mother.
Some other DC characters that are firmly canonly Jewish: Both Hal Jordan and Harley Quinn are Jewish and there is intentional erasure of their cultural/religious identities as well throughout the DC fandom and comics which if u didn’t know is absolutely anti-semitism.

A brief summary of how user engagement is tracked on Tumblr, for the newcomer:
- When you like or reblog a post, that counts as user engagement for the person you liked or reblogged from, and shows up in their notifications.
- If the person you liked or reblogged a post from wasn’t the original poster (i.e., you’re liking or reblogging a reblog), it also counts as user engagement for the original poster, and shows up in their notifications as well.
- This means that user engagement from your likes and reblogs can potential accrue to two different people, the original poster and the person you liked or reblogged from.
- Consequently, you cannot “steal” user engagement from someone by reblogging their post.
- This is one of the very few areas where Tumblr is actually functions more reasonably than other social media platforms.
- Note that this is only true if you use Tumblr’s built-in reblogging function. If you save someone else’s content to your local device and append it to a new post, you effectively become the original poster from that point on.
- This means that on Tumblr, “reblogging” and “reposting” are two different things; if you see someone complaining about “reposting”, this is not the same as reblogging.
- Commenting when reblogging does not affect any of this – unlike, say, Twitter, where quote-retweeting causes user engagement to accrue to the quote-retweet and not to the original tweet – and you can and should do so freely.
- However, every Tumblr user can see who exactly you reblogged a post from, which functions as a soft disincentive against making inane comments; if you make a dumb comment on a reblog, people who see your reblog may “back up” one step in the reblog chain to reblog a version of the post without your comment.
- Nobody understands tags, and there’s a fair amount of evidence that how tags work changes periodically and without warning.
- Tags are a divine mystery.
(For those going “how is this not obvious”, it’s about prior expectations, bro. On many major social media platforms, using the built-in sharing tools does divert user engagement from the original post. For example, as noted above, quote-retweeting on Twitter causes likes to accrue to the quote-retweet instead of the original tweet. This is because Twitter is hostile to human life.)
It’s really good for stuff like this to go around every once in a while! Strange as it may seem, people may in fact migrate here from Twitter or Instagram, where this stuff works differently and where there are different expectations of engagement.
DON’T FORGET - *most* Tumblr users DO NOT MIND if you engage with their OLD posts! (Apparently on Instagram they do? this baffles me.)
Many also don’t mind if you “spam” their notifications with a bunch of likes or reblogs in a row.
Tumblr has a rich culture of Very Old Posts continuing to make the reblog rounds, and people become fond of them.
Also, unlike Twitter, you can reblog the same post multiple times. Heck, you can reblog the same post every hour on the hour for days. (Please don’t.) But you do see a lot of “oh this came across my dash again, must reblog” with posts users are fond of. This is fine.
Tags ARE a divine mystery. People use the tags both for organization (inasmuch as this works, sometimes), and for added commentary. Commentary added to the tags will generally be seen by those who follow that person and see their reblog on their dash; but the OP and whoever they reblogged it from can also see the tags in the notifications.
So again – you can use the tags for commentary, and many people do. But people WILL see it. It just won’t “stick” with the post… necessarily. Tumblr also has a culture of people seeing some tags they think are relevant or clever, and reblogging a post with someone else’s tags included. So bear that in mind as well – something you put in the tags could get “pulled up” into a reblog chain by someone else, and this is generally seen as fine.

**Social Media is NOT real life. Don’t confuse FB friends with actual friendship. Instagram likes with people actually liking you, or Twitter followers with people actually caring what you have to say in 140 characters. The small print of social media sites reads; they just want to be all in your business.
#2014: Time to trim the fat. Delete delete delete.
**There will never be brown tights. Like, ever. I’ve come to terms with it. Somethings will never change.

**Girls are crazy. No, seriously. The moment you walk in the door, they love you or they hate you. They want to be you, they like your pictures but hate your guts, talk about each other over wine, steal boyfriends, walk pass you in the hall without speaking, give advice they’d never adhere to, vow to never speak to each other again, then go out to dinner or the club. Fight, with no reason to, and often keep are fueled off of drama that doesn’t exist or they would never confront each other about. We call each other every name in the book, and then are best friends on Tuesday and enemies Friday. So, until we find a pill for the female races craziness, let’s try and act like ladies. Ladies.
#2014: Women aren’t natural enemies, we’ve just been taught to believe that. Keep it classy ladies.
**Count Your Blessings. I tried a bunch of new things last year, and each time got very close but always came up short. And as I looked around, I’d wonder why or how other seemed to get things that I thought I deserved. I quickly realized how wrong I was. How easy it is to lose sight of our many blessings, worried about what the next person has. If it’s meant for you, you’ll know it.

**Value each moment, because death is real, and can come out of nowhere. Some absolutely wonderful people were called home to glory this year, each time it was more and more unexpected. Value the moments you have folks, because this is a precious life we are given.

**There are still super awesome people in this world. Like seriously. I had my doubts, but I managed to meet people I completely adore in 2013. To every single new person I’ve met this year, thanks for opening your heart and mind up to me, all of me. If you’re still here in 2014, I promise not to eff it up.
**Have I told you lately, that I love you? Mom and Dad, why thank goodness there is just one of me right? Love you both. Family, near and far. I love you all. Friends, my main girls (and guys) since the CSUSB days, I haven’t seen you in a while, but I think of you often. I owe you. Everlasting friendships since college, time can never break. I’m a thug, and don’t party in my feelings, but I owe it to folks to say I love you a little more. And I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know. To the strangers that turned into cowrokers, and to the nights that made those cowrokers my friends and people I love forever. Thank you. And where the party at tho?

**Dance is still everything. I renewed my love affair with dance this year. Moving through five different shows. Teaching when I can. Left one team, joined two. Kept dancing. Auditioned and auditioned and auditioned. Kept growing. Still growing. Still dancing.
#2014 They say dance like no one is watching. No dance like everyone is watching. And kill it. Weeerk.
**Sometimes you got to pat yourself on the back. Don’t hold your breath waiting for your job or the world to acknowledge you with a gold sticker and a high five. Most of the time it’ll never happen. Trust me. Believe in yourself, know that you are giving 100%, and reward yourself.

**Things change. And that’s ok. I spent quite a bit of last year, trying to figure out why things weren’t exactly how I wanted, or rather, how it had been in the past. Little did I know that change is inevitable. Change is good. But growth is even better. There is so much awesome out there, and it may not be what you’re used to, but it can be just what you need.
**Do you. Simply stated. There is never going to be a better version of you. I’ve learned that stepping away from the crowd sometimes gives you a clearer vision of reality. It’s so easy to get lost in what other people are doing, that you lose sight of yourself, and the person God called you to be. I’m slowly allowing myself to appreciate all that am. Good, bad and in between. And I’m kinda dope. I’m still very much a hot mess, but I’m working on that it lol.

Twitter blocks Senate candidate from advertising false claim about Planned Parenthood
- Twitter has blocked current Tennessee Representative and Senate hopeful Marsha Blackburn from paying to promote a campaign announcement that falsely claimed she “stopped the sale of baby body parts.”
- According to the Associated Press, Twitter told vendors for the campaign that the statement was “inflammatory,” and stopped the ad from being promoted on the service.
