You stand in the doorway, watching Elijah with your daughter. She’s a matter of months old, and she rests in his arms like she knows she belongs there – like she knows she’s loved by the man you’re proud to call her father.

You study the way he looks at her, appreciative of the way he let you lie in after being up all night with her earlier in the week. Elijah looks at her like she’s the most precious thing in the world, a smile on his face and he hums what you recognize as your favourite song.

He’s always said she’ll end up a carbon copy of her mother, never saying it’s a bad thing. You start to see how that might happen as she smiles at the tune.

You don’t want to interrupt them, don’t want to disturb this perfect moment, so you stay silent for a little while longer, watching the man you love with your child.

“Are you going to stand there all day, or are you going to come and say good morning?” Elijah never takes his eyes off the baby as he speaks to you, and you’re reminded of how he can hear your heartbeat, how he probably heard you moving about upstairs. You sigh, and walk over to him, wrapping one arm around his waist from behind and resting your chin on his shoulder.

The other arm brushes your daughter’s cheek. “Good morning, sweetheart.” You kiss Elijah’s cheek. “And good morning to you too. How was she?”

“Oh, we had a fair bit of crying, but didn’t take too long to calm down.”

You both stand there for a moment, in awe of the baby that you two created, of how perfect she has, how small she is, how delicate she is. She’s truly yours, and you’ve both said how you didn’t think it was possible to love something so much.

Her eyes close slowly, and at that, Elijah lowers her back into her crib.

It’s then that he turns and brushes his lips against your forehead. Your eyes close as he does so, breathing him in, reminding yourself that in spite of everything you’ve been through, every danger you’ve faced, you’re here, now, with him, with her, as a family. A bond that can never be broken, not really.

“I trust you slept well.” Elijah cups your face, brushing your cheek with his thumb. You lean into his touch as you hum in response. “Let me make you breakfast.”

“You really don’t have to, you’ve done enough today.”

“And you do enough every day, yet you still choose to do more.” You open your mouth to protest. “No arguments. You stay here, watch over her, and I’ll be back with breakfast.”

“And then what?”

Elijah smiles. “Well, that all depends on her, doesn’t it?” It’s not a dig, it’s a statement of love. Your lives now revolve around the baby in the room, and you couldn’t ask for anything more.

She’s Elijah’s baby.

She’s your baby.

And the three of you are the perfect family.

The moon is high
Like your friends were the night that we first met
Went home and tried to stalk you on the internet
Now I’ve read all of the books beside your bed

Elijah looked out over the courtyard of the Mikaelson compound, his tie yet to be tied, shirt buttons yet to be done up. He was nervous, his shaky hands forcing him to give up on the bowtie for the moment. It was okay, he told himself. He still had an hour until she arrived, and he could spend that time making sure everything else was perfect before he focused on his own appearance.

Moonlight bled across the concrete tiles, and as Elijah listened to the buzz of the streets, he could hear the laughter of a group of young women, Y/N’s laughter the most distinguished among the noise. She was a few houses along, hanging out with her friends before she was due to meet him back at the place they both called home.

Her laugh was so familiar to Elijah, so comforting. He remembered the first time he’d heard it, the way it captivated him, the way its owner had left him speechless with her beauty. Two years on, and he still found himself amazed by Y/N, by the way she made him feel so at peace, by the way she let him know everything about her.

He hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her on that fateful night, and as he leaned against the doorframe, waiting for her, he knew he never would. He caught a glimpse of her favourite book left on the breakfast table, making a mental note to move it back to the bedside later.

The wine is cold
Like the shoulder that I gave you in the street
Cat and mouse for a month or two or three
Now I wake up in the night and watch you breathe

The minutes ticked by faster than Elijah would have liked, and he resisted the urge to curse as he heard Y/N’s laughter grow closer and closer. He couldn’t ask her to leave, couldn’t tell her that he wasn’t ready for her yet, would never even have dreamt of giving her the cold shoulder. He couldn’t bear the thought of ever hurting her, which he hoped to convey to her tonight.

He hoped to tell her that despite all the games they had played in the first few months of their relationship, constantly playing hard to get, Elijah had wanted Y/N to be his more than anything in the world. He hoped to tell her how he wanted to hold her hand for the rest of his immortal life, how he wanted to wake up next to her, to follow the movement of her chest as she breathed against him, their hearts beating in synchronicity.

Elijah took one last look at the perfect vintage he had selected, at the evening he had taken so long to create, before turning back to the mirror hanging over the fireplace. He wasn’t used to his hands being so shaky, and as he failed yet again to do his tie, he sighed, thinking to himself that he would just have to leave it.

He leaned back against the doorframe, overlooking the courtyard, and took a deep breath when he saw Y/N walk into the compound, looking as beautiful as ever.

Kiss me once ‘cause you know I had a long night (Oh)
Kiss me twice 'cause it’s gonna be alright (Uh)
Three times 'cause I waited my whole life (1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4)

Elijah couldn’t help but smile when Y/N looked at him, forever captivated by her. She ran up the stairs to see him, stopping when she looked at his dishevelled state. He didn’t blame her for her confusion, however brief it was, knowing that everyone was used to seeing him as immaculate. “Long night?”

“You could say that.” Elijah leaned into Y/N as she kissed him, his hand resting on her jaw. Her lips left his too soon, but it was that simple kiss combined with her next words that reassured him that everything would be fine.

She slipped one hand under his open collar, using the other to pull the tie off his neck, tossing it carelessly to the floor. “Well, I still think you look dashing.” Elijah resisted the urge to laugh at her dramatics, reminding himself that he had waited his entire life for the woman who stood before him, waited for this moment.

Y/N looked past him, an eyebrow raising at the sight behind him – the lights, the wine, the mood perfectly set. “Is it my birthday?”

Elijah intertwined his fingers with hers, pulling her into the room. “Come on.” Pulling her along felt so easy, and he hoped she couldn’t hear how fast his heart was beating, his hands finally having stopped shaking once they found their place in Y/N’s.

I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings
Uh huh, that’s right
Darling, you’re the one I want, and
I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this

Elijah poured Y/N a glass of wine, his fingers brushing hers when she took it from him. She sipped from it before looking at him. “Elijah, what’s going on?” There was worry in her voice, and Elijah wanted nothing more than to kiss it away, wanted to reassure her that everything was going to be fine. He’d had a plan for tonight, but as he looked at Y/N now, he realised that he wanted to abandon that plan. He took a deep breath and began the most important speech of his life.

“Y/N Y/L/N, I always thought my family was complete, always thought that eternity had nothing more to offer me. And then, two years ago, I met you and I realised that I was wrong. I have walked this earth for a thousand years, and I have never cared for something as much as I care for you, as much as I love you. You were unexpected in the best way possible. I want the rest of my life to be as unpredictable and I know that the only way that’s going to happen is if you’re in it. I love you, Y/N, which is why I need to ask you one simple question.” He took the small box out of his trouser pocket and knelt before Y/N.

Y/N didn’t even give him the chance to finish that question before she’d wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

Y/N laughed as Elijah slipped the ring onto her finger.

Uh huh, that’s right
Darling, you’re the one I want
In paper rings, in picture frames, in dirty dreams
Oh, you’re the one I want

Later that evening, Elijah leaned against the doorframe as he watched Y/N walk across the courtyard of the Mikaelson compound. His eyes were drawn to that diamond on her finger, the smile on her face as she showed it off to his sisters. He could hear that familiar laughter escaping her lips, and there was something so endearing about knowing that he would now hear it for the rest of his life.

She was the one he wanted, he was sure of that, and he was so lucky that she wanted him back.

Amidst the laughter, the celebration from the rest of his siblings, Elijah caught Y/N looking up at him, caught her smiling at him. It was a smile that he would capture in photographs, in his dreams, every single day for the rest of eternity.

But for now, he was more than happy to watch, forever captivated by her beauty. So he leaned against the doorframe, tie abandoned, shirt collar undone, lips tingling and heart racing. He leaned against the doorframe, overlooking the Mikaelson compound, the place he called home finally feeling complete.

All because of his missing piece, all because of Y/N Y/L/N, the woman he would soon call his wife.

Let’s take our time tonight, girl
Above us all the stars are watchin’
There’s no place I’d rather be in this world

“Where have you been?” Y/N’s words were swallowed when she looked at Elijah, at the smudge of blood on the collar on his otherwise porcelain white shirt. She looked at the furrow in his brow, the familiar darkness that resided in his eyes. She didn’t need him to answer the question, not when she saw the pain and regret carved into his face, making her want to kiss it all away.

Elijah had been protecting his family, protecting Y/N, just as he always swore he would. He told her so as they lay in bed together, as he asked her why she stayed with a monster such as him. She would kiss him then, mutter words of love against his lips, reminding him that he wasn’t a monster.

Not to her.

He’d tell her that if he could, he would give her every star in the sky, that there was nowhere he would rather be than with her. She felt the same, so when she looked at him now, at the remnants of the acts he had committed, she walked towards him with tenderness.

Elijah leaned into her touch as she cupped his cheek. “Let’s get you cleaned up, shall we?”

Your eyes are where I’m lost in
Underneath the chandelier
We’re dancin’ all alone

In true Elijah Mikaelson fashion, the oldest of the living brothers produced a handkerchief from his shirt pocket with his usual flourish. He didn’t speak as Y/N took it from him, her fingers folding over his for only a moment.

There was a tension between the two that they recognised, one that sparked heat, flames crackling along their skin with a pleasant tingle. Y/N thought it best to let it burn alongside her task, her eyes never leaving Elijah’s as she began to dab at the blood on his collar. “Whatever you did, you did it because you’re a good man.”

“How can you be so sure?” Elijah’s voice was hoarse, his lips inches from Y/N’s.

“Because I know you, Elijah Mikaelson.” Y/N dropped the handkerchief to the floor, that tension overpowering everything she knew to be logical. “And I love you.”

The overhanging light illuminated his face as he leant in to kiss her, and Y/N couldn’t help herself when she grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him close as their lips moved in perfect synchronicity, a dance that only they knew the steps too. Elijah’s hands tangled in her hair as he kissed her, his tongue swiping along her bottom lip and gaining entrance.

There’s no reason to hide
What we’re feelin’ inside
Right now

Y/N pushed Elijah’s suit jacket off his shoulders, let him pull her shirt over her head. There was a rhythm to what they shared in these moments, one they knew like the backs of their hands. There was an understanding to it all, a mutual agreement that there was nothing to hide now, only to show the intent desire that they felt for each other.

Their lips joined again as Elijah pushed Y/N towards the bed, laying her down with a pleasant fragility. There was that heat, burning just as Y/N had intended, scorching her skin as Elijah hovered over the top of her.

She made short work of the buttons on his shirt, and she saw Elijah smile as he discarded of it with a carelessness that was so unlike him. A carelessness that was reserved for her, for these moments, for right now.

He hovered over her before pressing kisses down her stomach, before undoing the button on her jeans. He never took his eyes off her as he pulled them down her legs, kissing his way back up her thighs, and repeating the action with her underwear.

Y/N grabbed the back of Elijah’s head and pulled him back up to face her. She smiled before flipping them over.

So, baby, let’s just turn down the lights
And close the door
Oooh I love that dress

Elijah looked up at Y/N in amazement, one hand stroking down her spine as he leaned up to kiss her. “You really are beautiful.” His words sunk into her skin, her hand trailing down to the zip on his trousers. She pulled it down, reaching inside his boxer shorts and finding just what she wanted.

Elijah groaned against her, and for the first time that day, Y/N was pleased the door was closed. She couldn’t help herself when she sunk onto him, remembering just why she loved him, forgetting everything he had done that she should have thought was monstrous.

He had protected her today, she knew that, and as she began to move, she hoped that she was helping him to forget how bad he felt about embracing his nature. It didn’t matter what the occasion was, whether he was late for a date where she wore his favourite dress or a moment of pure spontaneity, Y/N would always remind Elijah that she loved him for protecting her.

That he was a good man, regardless of what history said.

His hand trailed up her back, resting on the back of her neck, and thus began the moment where they became one.

But you won’t need it anymore
No, you won’t need it no more
Let’s just kiss ‘til we’re naked, baby

Elijah’s lips found hers and Y/N fell into his kiss as they moved together, the only sound the occasional gasp that filled the room. It was in these moments that Y/N was reminded of how she didn’t need anything else, only Elijah, only his love and affection, only his undying willingness to keep her safe, to remind her that she was loved, that she was his.

So she continued to kiss him as they moved, a knot forming in the pit of her stomach, the final flame of that fire within her threatening to burn brighter than any others of its kind. Her lips left Elijah’s only for a moment, only to look into his eyes and tell him that she was close to exploding, close to drowning in him.

And then his lips devoured hers again, swallowing her screams and giving her his own. And when it was over, he rested his forehead against hers, their breath mingling in disjointed unison.

Elijah looked at Y/N through hooded eyes, and smiled briefly, before letting her climb off him. She settled down next to him, head on his chest as she tried to regain her breath.

“I don’t deserve you,” he muttered into her hair. She sat up and looked at him.

“How many times, Elijah? You’re a good man. You deserve everything.”

Versace on the floor
Oooh take it off for me, for me, for me, for me now, girl

Elijah looked at Y/N then, really looked at her. He didn’t understand how someone like her could love someone like him, how she could stand with him through everything, how she could think that he was a good man. She hadn’t been there for the past ten centuries, and whenever he reminded her, she always told him that she didn’t care.

That it didn’t matter who he was then, only who he was now.

She was perfect, truly. A diamond that belonged with the stars, a silk dress that should be worn by royalty. And for some strange reason, she had chosen to be with him.

So when she told him that he deserved everything, he told her that that was what he wanted to give her. He wanted to give her everything and more. She smiled that beautiful smile and leaned up to kiss him.

His hands slid over her bare shoulders as he pulled her back on top of him, and in that moment, one of those moments that he would always wish to share with Y/N, Elijah realised that he truly was the luckiest man in the world.

He had Y/N, after all. He hoped he always would.

Request from @awesome-badass-cafeteria-sauce: Ooo! I just thought of a good one! Would you be interested in writing a fic for this request? So, the reader is part of ‘the gang’ and human. When Elijah first comes to Mystic Falls he is instantly drawn to her and admires her from afar and she isn’t really looking for anyone - just trying to stay alive - but they do become friends. When Klaus comes to town, she falls hard and fast for him - probably the whole bad boy immortal hybrid thing - and it hurts her so much to see him smitten with Caroline. She kind of breaks after the whole prom thing in 4x19 of TVD - the dress (it looked like a wedding dress! Come on!) & him allowing Tyler to live but to leave just because Caroline was so happy with her ending for prom. Elijah sees this and comforts her and she realises that who she needs has been right in front of her all along.

Hope this is okay for you lovely, and enjoy x

It was so you, so typically you. It was just like you to fall for someone you couldn’t have, someone who was so wrong for you in so many ways. It was just like you to fall for the bad boy, but he wasn’t just the bad boy this time around, he was the bad guy.

At least, that was what everyone else thought.

You knew that Klaus Mikaelson was breaking your heart, that he had fallen for someone else, for your friend of all people, but that didn’t stop part of you wanting to see him redeemed, wanting him to look at you the same way he looked at Caroline.

At first, it had been easy to pretend, easy to watch him take more notice of your friend than he did you. It had been easy to pretend that one day he would turn around and he would look at you like you were the most important person in the world.

It had been easy to pretend that he didn’t just see you as his older brother’s friend, Elijah always a source of comfort.

But it was getting harder to find that comfort, especially after prom. Especially when Klaus helped her with the most beautiful of dresses, when he let Tyler leave town just to make her happy.

It was harder to find that comfort when you were sat on your doorstep in a dress you had thought was perfect, alone.

Alone, until he showed up.

Elijah had been watching Y/N all night, watching the way her eyes flew to Caroline, as she overheard what had happened between her and Klaus. Elijah was sure he had seen Y/N’s heart shatter into pieces tonight and there was nothing he wanted more than to stitch it back together.

He had fallen for Y/N the moment he had seen her sat in the corner of the Mystic Grill, nose in a book. It hadn’t taken long for the two of them to become friends, nor had it taken long for Elijah to notice the interest she had taken in his younger brother.

He had known from the start it would only end with her getting hurt and he hated that. He didn’t blame Klaus, the hybrid oblivious to Y/N’s feelings, only himself, for letting it get this far.

He was walking home when he saw her outside her own house, heels discarded on the pavement, her cheeks flushed. Elijah knew then that she had been crying and all he wanted to do was kiss away her tears. He walked over to her, and leaned against the porch frame, looking at her with a sad intrigue. “May I ask why you’re sat here?”

She looked up at him. “Forgot my keys.”

“Ah.” Elijah moved, and took a seat next to her. “Care for some company?”

He didn’t wait for her to answer, giving her a look that he knew she would recognise. A look that would tell her he wasn’t going anywhere.

She smiled a sad smile at him, and in that moment, Elijah thought she had never looked more beautiful.

There was something about being with Elijah that made you want to spill the deepest secrets of your soul. It was the way he had always looked at you, as if he were hanging onto your every word, taking each into his heart and savouring it, keeping it safe from harm.

That was why you couldn’t help it when you leaned into him and cried onto his shoulder. He had always known about your feelings for Klaus, and you relished his silence as you confessed your frustration, your heartbreak.

And then, when you were finished, when you were sure there would be no more tears, Elijah kissed the top of your head, and everything changed.

It was as if a switch had flicked on in your mind, your heart racing faster than it had ever done before at the sight of Elijah. It was a feeling you associated with Klaus, not with the man who was one of your closest friends.

You pulled away from him and looked at him as if you were seeing him for the first time. Elijah. Elijah who had been there for you through everything. Elijah who had never complained. Elijah who had always held your hand when you needed him most.

Elijah who you never thought you would be the one. But yet, here you were, second guessing everything.

“Something wrong, Y/N?”

Elijah hadn’t been able to help himself when he kissed the top of Y/N’s head. It had just happened, as if all his feelings for her had finally bubbled over the surface. And now she was looking at him differently, and he was afraid.

Afraid that she wouldn’t want to be near him anymore.

“It’s you.” Two words, those were all she said. Two words that had Elijah’s undead heart racing, two words that he both understood and didn’t, his hopes and dreams merging with reality.

Y/N continued. “It’s you I’m supposed to be with, isn’t it?” She paused, and looked at him, cupping his cheek with her hand. Elijah’s eyes fluttered closed, having only dreamt of her touching him like this. “That’s what you want, isn’t it?”

So she had figured it out, Elijah thought. He wasn’t surprised; she was an intelligent woman.

“Only if it’s what you want.”

She leaned up and kissed him, her lips capturing his in a way Elijah had only envisioned in the deepest corners of his mind.

He was the person that had been in front of her all along, waiting for her to come to this very realisation. And as he kissed her back, Elijah Mikaelson knew only one thing.

Y/N Y/L/N was the one for him.

Request from Anon: Ok so I just had this idea and since requests are open I was wondering if u could do it XD ok so what if the reader finds out Elijah is a vampire and obviously he goes into the “im a vampire” speech expecting the reader to run and all that but instead when the reader finds out they are just like “nice :)” not even scared or anything I feel like that would be so funny and a big shock to elijah, u can make it as fluffy as u want :)

Hope this is okay for you lovely, and enjoy x

Elijah’s never been terrified before, never known a fear like this one. The fear that comes when you’re staring at him like you are now, having found him in his most primitive state. He’s always wanted to surprise you, always treats you on your birthday, but this is a surprise he didn’t want to give, and he doesn’t know what to do.

So he does the only thing he can, eyes never leaving you as he pulls out a handkerchief and dabs at the blood on his lip. He’s expecting you to run, expecting you to scream. The woman he loves has just found him as he was made by his mother – a vampire, a monster that should only exist in stories.

It’s as you’re looking at him, your eyes wide, that he realises he has to say something. He opens his mouth, and he hates the words that come out, hates how they sound. “Y/N, there’s something I have to tell you. I’m – ”

“A vampire.” Your words are coated in a tone of disbelief, and Elijah doesn’t understand why you aren’t more afraid. Any other person would be.

Then again, you’re not just any other person.

Elijah doesn’t expect the next word that comes out of your mouth, and he’s the one who gets the surprise when you speak. You look at him with intrigue, and a smile graces your face. “Nice.”

He wrinkles his forehead in confusion. “Nice?”

You walk over and kiss him on the cheek. “This doesn’t change anything, Elijah. I still love you.”

Elijah looks at you in wondrous exasperation. You never cease to amaze him, and the fact that you’re not even upset about his lies of who he is makes him love you more than he thought was possible. He’ll always be surprised by you, and he constantly looks forward to the next time.

That night marks the first Mikaelson family dinner that you’ll be aware of the fact that vampires exist. Elijah has spent the day explaining to you who he and his family really are.

Elijah’s eyes never leave you as you take your place next to him at the table.

His brother sits at the head of the table, and the hybrid – as you’ve just discovered – looks at you with a smirk. “So, Y/N. Elijah tells me you know the truth. Scared?”

You look back at Klaus with as much arrogance as he shows you, the two of you always trying to outdo each other in such a game. “Not at all.”

The hybrid smiles, before glancing at his older brother. “Hold onto her, Elijah.”

Elijah’s arm rests on the back of your chair. “Oh, I plan to.”

The dinner goes swimmingly, with Elijah and his family happy to answer any questions you may have. It’s the final one that reminds Elijah just why he loves you, and just why he always looks forward to the surprises you give him. Your question makes him laugh, throwing his hands up in exasperation as he sees how serious you are.

“Can you really turn into bats?”

Request from Anon: You could make a imagine where the reader is invited to a ball and Elijah asks him to dance and it’s fluff but there’s a lot of sexual tension going on between them during that. It would be nice.

Agh, I’m sorry this has taken so long! Hope this is okay for you lovely, and enjoy x

You stand there, you wait, you listen to the beat of the music and note how it matches the steady thrum of your heartbeat. You’re not supposed to be here, you know that, know that you’re not suited for such an occasion, know that you don’t have the charm that exudes from all the men here.

The charm that exudes from him.

You can’t help but notice him, can’t help but notice the way his suit fits him perfectly, almost like it was made just for him, can’t help but notice the way he’s standing there too, as if he’s waiting for something. For someone. Maybe he’s listening to the beat of the music too, maybe he’s noting how it matches the much slower thrum of his undead heart, maybe he can hear yours too.

You shake the thought out of your head, knowing that he doesn’t even know you exist.

Your heartbeat has sped up, you know that, more of a quickstep than a waltz now. It sounds disjointed, out of time with the classical music that floods the ballroom, the setting that you were invited to and you don’t know why. You try to train your gaze on a spectacular ice sculpture, but you catch a shadow, and you can’t help but look at the being that has swallowed the light so beautifully.

It’s him, standing at your shoulder, and there’s that charm again, radiating from him like heat from a fire. It scorches your skin, and you feel it bury itself inside your soul, making your knees tremble. With only a false composure, you turn to face him and you can’t help but study the deep brown of his eyes, the parting of his hair, the way he looks at you with such intrigue. Your mouth is dry as you open it, the one word that escapes it hoarse and crackling.

“Hello.”

He blinks at you, a smile playing on his lips. Your heartbeat only increases as you watch him restrain such a gesture, and you realise then that the stories are true. Of all his family, he truly is the most charming, the most sophisticated, the most handsome. He extends his hand, and you take it, shivering as his fingers curl inside your palm. You never knew a handshake could have such an effect, and you miss the warmth of his touch when he removes his hand. “I’m Elijah.”

You can’t tell him you already knew that, can’t tell him that you’ve known who he is since the moment he arrived in town. You tell him your own name, and that’s when Elijah finally smiles, no restraint necessary and it fits with his nature. It’s a charming stretch of his lips, and you feel as if a spell has been cast on you by some unknown fairy godmother.

But in those stories, it’s always a prince and a princess. Tonight, as Elijah asks you to dance, as you accept his offer with shaky hands, you change the narrative. Tonight, two princes will dance the night away, changing the tale with an ending that suits them.

Elijah puts his hand on your back – ever the leader, as you’d expect – and you let him move you to the beat of the music. It was easy to focus on when you were trying to match it with your heartbeat, but now you have Elijah’s body so close to yours and all rational thought is flying out of the window with every step that you take. Elijah chuckles, and you look at him with wide eyes.

“Your heartbeat is racing,” he mutters, and you swallow out of fear or attraction, you’re not sure. This man could kill you with a flick of his wrist, but you don’t want him to leave you, don’t want his body away from yours. “You should just try to relax, Y/N.”

Even the way he says your name has an element of charm about it. It’s so infuriating, what he’s able to do to you, the way he crafts each letter as if it were its own individual sculpture. You’d heard his brother was the artist, but Elijah’s mannerisms, his voice, his tone, has you doubting such legends.

You try to do as he says, but it’s oh so difficult. You can feel his body swaying against yours, can feel your heart still racing, that spell he’s cast wrapping around the two of you as if chaining you together. You never want that chain to break, never want to be freed from the pleasant prison that Elijah has entrapped you in.

But then the song ends, and you can’t help but look at Elijah, waiting for something, something you’re not quite sure of. He removes his grip, and you miss his touch, miss that warmth.

But it’s replaced when Elijah takes your hand in his and brushes his lips over your knuckles. You almost fall to your knees, overwhelmed by his immortal charm. Such charisma is undying, just as he is. It haunts you into the night, his final words to you ringing in your ears.

We could leave the Christmas lights up ‘til January
And this is our place, we make the rules

Elijah wasn’t really focused on the book in his lap, not when Y/N was sitting opposite him, nose in her own novel. When he was sure she wasn’t looking, he’d look up, spare a glance at her, study her as he so often did. He loved the way her eyes flew over the pages, the way her bottom lip found its way beneath her teeth when she reached a point that had her particularly entranced.

Entranced, just like he found himself every time he looked at her, every time she reminded him that she was his.

It was times like these, quiet, tranquil moments that were so rare, that Elijah reminisced on all the things he wanted to give Y/N. He wanted to find them a house, remembering how she had told him of childhood Christmases. When December came, he wanted to decorate that house the way she remembered it, wanted to dance with her, barefooted under the glow of fairy lights, kiss her under the mistletoe.

He wanted to kiss her every day for the rest of his life, wanted to place his hand on the small of her back and hold her close, whisper his feelings for her until his throat was raw.

Elijah smiled to himself as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her fingers dancing across the pages of the book in her hand. He wanted to kiss each fingertip, but for now, he would settle with watching her at her most content.

And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear
Have I known you twenty seconds or twenty years?

Y/N wasn’t really focused on the book in her lap, not when Elijah was sitting opposite her, nose in his own novel. When she was sure he wasn’t looking, she’d look up, spare a glance at him, study him as she so often did. She loved the way he remained serene no matter the content of the book, the way his fingers turned each page with such delicacy.

Delicacy, just like he treated her with every time he kissed her, every time he held her tight and reminded her that he was hers.

It was times like these, quiet, tranquil moments that were so rare, that Y/N reminisced on the life that she wanted with Elijah. There was almost a golden haze about him, a light that followed him constantly, crushing any darkness he felt he had. She saw it when they were in bed together, facing each other, Elijah’s fingers tracing her cheekbones as if she were made of glass.

She wanted him to do that every day for the rest of her life, wanted to feel like she had known him forever when in reality it had felt like seconds, to feel comfortable with him yet always anticipating just what he would do next.

Y/N smiled to herself as Elijah turned another page, lips twitching ever so slightly at the corners. She wanted to kiss those lips, feel them part beneath her own, but for now, she would settle with watching him at his most content.

Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close?
Forever and ever, ah

Elijah looked on as Y/N neared the end of her book, finally choosing to speak when she turned the last page. “How was it?”

“Not too bad. I’ve read better.” She stood, before walking over to the bookcase and putting the novel back in its rightful place. Y/N turned to face him. “How’s that?”

Elijah smiled. “I’ve read better.” He didn’t tell her the truth that he had no idea what was actually going on in it, having lost the ability to focus with her around. He closed the book, putting it on the table next to him. He would give it another go some other time, when Y/N wasn’t in the room perhaps. But then again, he could think of nothing worse than not having her in his line of sight.

He reached out and grabbed her hand, tangling his fingers with her own. He would go wherever this hand led him, he realised, as he fulfilled his wish of kissing Y/N’s fingertips. He pulled her around to his front, feeling a familiar sense of comfort as she sat on his knee, threading her fingers through his hair.

Elijah would always want to be close to Y/N, he had known that since the moment he met her. He rested his head on her shoulder, nose brushing the column of her throat and she hummed contentedly. “What’s all this about?”

Elijah looked up at Y/N as if she were the only person left in the world. “Do I need a reason?”

Take me out, and take me home
You’re my, my, my, my lover

Y/N looked down at Elijah, his question lingering in the air. He didn’t need a reason, she supposed, didn’t need a reason to show his affection. “I suppose not.”

“Yousupposenot?” Elijah slid his hand up her neck, thumb resting on the point of her chin, fingers splayed across her cheek. He searched her eyes. “Do you have even the slightest idea of what you mean to me?”

Y/N smiled. “I think I have an idea.” She didn’t tell him that what she meant to him probably mirrored just what he meant to her, if not more, didn’t need to as she looked back into Elijah’s eyes with all the affection she could muster. She could think of nothing worse than not having him by her side, than waking up one morning and not being able to have these moments with him.

She continued to play with his hair, hand sliding down the back of his head and fiddling with the hairs on the back of his neck. She dipped her head slightly, realising that he was what being at home felt like, as she fulfilled her wish of feeling Elijah’s lips part beneath her own. Her hold on him only intensified as the kiss grew deeper, Elijah’s other hand sliding up the small of her back.

Y/N would always want to be close to Elijah, she had known that since the moment she met him. She parted from him, nose brushing against his as she smiled. “I love you, Elijah Mikaelson.”

Elijah’s eyes never left Y/N’s, looking at her as if she were everything. “I love you too, Y/N Y/L/N.”

You smiled as you looked down at your stomach, placing your hand over the spot where there was life growing. There was barely a bulge there yet, just a bundle of cells beneath your skin, slowly merging to form a person, a child that you would be able to call yours.

You had only known about them for a matter of hours, and at first, you had been surprised, stunned into disbelief. Elijah was a vampire – he wasn’t supposed to be able to reproduce, but there was the evidence on the pregnancy test, as clear as day. You wondered how he was going to react when you told him, and that moment of doubt flew into your mind. It was brief, memories of how he acted around his niece making you see sense.

He would be thrilled, you knew it.

You waited for him now, your grin growing when you heard the door open. You watched him walk into the compound, studying the features of the father of your child. He spotted you and smiled, making to walk over to you and kiss you, when he stopped.

You watched as he listened to the heartbeat of your child, as his eyes fell to your stomach, to the hand that you placed on it. His gaze met yours, and a single word escaped his mouth. “How?”

There was concern in his face, but you could see the ghost of a smile begin to grow. There was no doubt that it was his child, his faith in you undying. You would never betray him, just like you knew he would never do the same to you. “I don’t know. But right now, I don’t care. Do you?”

Elijah took a few more steps over to you, his hand covering the one on your stomach. His breath mingled with yours, your lips mere inches from each other’s. His fingers slotted with yours in that moment, listening to the beating heart of the child he got to call his own. “Not particularly.” Elijah smiled at you, teeth showing as you saw true contentment in his eyes for the first time in a long time. His other hand reached up and cupped your cheek, thumb sliding over your skin. “Do you want this?”

Your heart began to beat rapidly at his concern for you, his desire to always give you what you wanted. You nodded, close to tears. Elijah smiled again, and it was in that moment he kissed you, closing that gap between the two of you. His lips moved against yours in perfect synchronicity, his hand never leaving the one on your stomach. There was three of you now, and as he parted from you and looked down at your stomach, you knew that Elijah would make sure to protect all of you.

For the next few months, you could see how proud Elijah was to be a father. Pride emanated from him every time he looked at you, every time he noted how your stomach was growing. You could see it every time he looked at Hope, knowing that he was finally to have his own child. You heard it in his voice every time he spoke to his brother about fatherhood, every time he told you he loved you.

It was a terrifying thing, to become a parent, but Elijah managed to make you forget that fear. He reminded you of the joys of parenting, of how there would soon be a child that relied on you, that loved you unconditionally, that would make your dreams of having a real family come true. As you lay in bed, Elijah placed his hand over your stomach, mirroring that moment when he had found out you were pregnant as you placed your hand over his and slotted your fingers together.

And then you felt it.

Elijah’s eyes widened at the action, your child kicking against your hands. He smoothed your intertwined hands over your skin, as if to soothe the baby, but instead another kick was issued. You laughed. “I think someone likes you.”

Elijah smiled and you watched as he leaned over and pressed his lips against your stomach. “Well, I happen to like that someone too.” Elijah moved back up, his hand still on your stomach, your baby have calmed down with the feel of the kiss. Using his other hand, he hooked a finger under your chin, his eyes searching yours. “And I promise to keep you safe, Y/N. Both of you.”

“I know.” You pressed your lips against his, a gentle feather-light kiss enough for Elijah to understand just what he meant to you. There was so much weight in his eyes, so much strain from constantly believing that he had to be the responsible one. Your kiss reminded him that he wasn’t alone, not as long as you were by his side.

You settled into him, your head in the crook of his neck, and Elijah placed a kiss on top of your head. “I love you.”

There was still a few more months to go until you could meet your child, but you knew that when that time came, everything would be perfect. You would try your best to be the perfect mother, and you knew that most things would be uncertain but it didn’t matter.

Not when you knew the truth.

Elijah Mikaelson would be the perfect father. And the proudest one, too.

Summary:

the hollow got you. now elijah needs to save you.

You are the one taken by the hollow, not elijah. How far will the family go to get you back and how it’s going to affect your relationship with him?

rewriting of season 4 episodes 9-11. in this is you who gets taken not him. does not follow completely the same the episodes. includes also your platonic relationship with the others and flashbacks of new scenes of you and elijah in the centuries. first two parts follow the show closely.

genre: angst and fluff with happy ending

Notes:
The first two parts are mostly rewrite of the episode featuring you and I added some scenes. the rest is my interpretation of what the storyline could be with you, featuring again heavy canon rewritten but mostly made up scenes

Warning: temporary character de4th but with happy ending, canon violence/threats, grief, lots of angst, fluff, main character death and resurrection

———————————————————————————–

‘it’s all ready for the ritual’ you cheerfully say opening the door to see Klaus seated on a chair with Elijah standing behind him. elijah’s hand is resting on his brother shoulder as he is looking with a fond expression behind klaus’s shoulder at one of the fake moon and sun curses artifacts Klaus drew, the roman one, one of your favorites.

The two men turn towards you smiling. ‘sister’ Klaus greets you, he is smiling. You understand that he is in a good mood by the way he is smiling at you and Elijah and not looking at the girl you noticed next to the fireplace as if she is his next meal.

‘my love’ Elijah says, moving towards you and helping you out of your coat. then you turn and briefly kiss him as he smiles against your lips, as you curl your fingers in his wavy long hair as you keep him close ‘I missed you today’

‘me too’ he replies

You smile at him as you let him go. elijah takes his place again to stand behind Klaus’s chair, as you bend down and ruffle Klaus’s golden curls before kissing his forehead as he smiles.

‘finally I’m not going to be the only hybrid of the family’ you say as you sit next to Klaus on the chair Elijah prepared for you before raising your legs and resting them on Klaus’s knees, as you relax by laying back on the chair.

‘500 years, can you believe it? And I’m finally going to be free’ Klaus contemplates

‘finally brother’ Elijah smiles at him sqeezing his shoulder as you say ‘you deserve it niki’ squeezing his arm

You all smile contemplating that Klaus will finally unlock the hybrid curse, after a moment of silence Elijah asks you ‘a bit of wine my love?’

‘yes, please eli’  you reply looking up at him, Elijah pours some in a glass and handles it to you.

You thank him, take a sip and let out a content sigh

‘what were you boys talking about? ’ you ask them ‘niki let me see the stroll’ you say grabbing carefully the stroll from Klaus and looking at them

‘I was telling Elijah that I was quite proud of the African tribal carvings’ Klaus explains proudly

‘and I, that his finest work are the Aztec drawing. Who can resist a shaman’ Elijah adds

You hum but say nothing as your gently pass your hand over the stroll

‘y/n what do you think was my finest work?’ Klaus asks you, his eyes shining

‘I particularly loved the roman ones’ you reply smiling at him ‘but I agree the Aztec was the best’ you finally declare giving it back to Klaus

Elijah chuckles at your admission while klaus rolls his eyes

‘there is no point. You always agree with Elijah’ he notes faking to be offended

‘ Well niklaus he has impeccable taste, he did choose me’ you reply proudly as Klaus lets out a chuckle

‘touchè’ Elijah adds, he then bends downs and kisses you, his hand tilting your chin up as you deepen the kiss as you melt in him

‘well it’s quite late isn’t it?’ you say breaking for air.

Elijah takes the prompt immediately ‘it quite is’

‘If you’ll excuse us niklaus’ he says, trying his best to putting on an emotionless face and giving you a hand to help you stand up

‘Yah yah have fun.’ Klaus laughs knowingly not falling for elijah’s expression, Elijah kisses your hand leading you to the door

‘Don’t exhaust her Elijah! I need her in full strength for the spell tomorrow!’ he shouts as you two exit the room. Elijah looks at him sternly as you giggle, before Elijah turns again towards you his eyes shining with love and lust‘I make no promises niklaus’

The door closes behind you and Elijah, your giggles can be heard from the corridor as you make elijah chase you down the corridor to your shared bedroom as he cages you against the door as you kiss him eagerly before slipping in your bedchambers and closing the door. Meanwhile Klaus in his room smiles at himself and puts the down roman stroll before he looks hungrily at the girl that you had noticed in the room before entering .
