“Consider it,” Clara pleaded. Her hands latched onto your upper arm, a pout setting on her face as the two of you made your way out of the lecture hall.
“The club isn’t really my scene, Clara,” you mumbled. You tried to shrug her off with no avail. For the past week, Clara had been on an all-time high; she groaned about spending too much of her time with her nose in the books and not enough time “in the moment.” She was determined to live out her best life from now on, which included getting an early start on her “hot girl summer” in the spring. One of these experiences included clubbing downtown.
“How do you know?” Clara whined. “You don’t know unless you try.”
“What does Hansol think about all of this?” you asked, trying to divert the attention from yourself.
“He said he was down,” Clara replied smugly, “It’s just you now.”
“Lies.”
“Nope!” she retorted, popping the ‘p.’ Clara fished her phone out of her back pocket and quickly scrolled to her most recent conversation with your friend. You squinted at the back and forth between them, surprised, but also not at Hansol’s casual agreement.
He was Hansol: always down to try new things, but never seemingly excited.
“Come on,” Clara dragged, “It’ll be fun! And you can bring Seungcheol.” She poked at your armpit, eliciting a jump from you.
The mention of your fake boyfriend reminded you that you had to go meet him this afternoon. Rolling your eyes and ignoring her comment, you crossed your arms and marched ahead in the direction of the location you had agreed to meet.
“Hey! Wait up,” Clara called, jogging after you. “Where are you going?”
“Thanks for the reminder,” you waved back at your friend though you didn’t turn around. “I have to go meet Cheol after class.”
“Oh, you guys are on thatlevel now,” Clara wiggled her eyebrows and nudged you teasingly as she caught up.
You cocked an eyebrow at her in confusion.
“Cheol,” she repeated after you.
“Clara–”
“What? It’s kind of cute how comfortable you two are getting.”

“Yang Kyungsoon,” Wonwoo pushed his phone across the table over to you.
You peered up at him briefly before taking it into your own hands. An Instagram photo of raven-haired beauty posing in a strapless white satin gown appeared on his screen. A closer look and though her hair was darker than it was now, it was unmistakably the same woman you had just met moments earlier. Scrolling down, another image of Kyungsoon appeared; this time a selfie of herself laying in a hammock with a pretty red flower in her hair, her lips painted a matching seductive color while the rest of her makeup was kept simple and natural.
“S-she’s … stunning,” the words fell from your lips before you realized it. You couldn’t help, but feel a sense of inferiority looking through her pictures. You looked back up at Wonwoo, your finger hovering over his phone.
Wonwoo reached over to take his phone. “Undoubtedly so – it’s no wonder Seungcheol fell for her.” He tapped out of Instagram and clicked the screen dark, shoving the device into his back pocket.
“Ah … so they were together?” you asked nervously, pretending to not be bothered by the fact.

It was as if everything went backwards after Seungcheol and your first official date as a fake couple. The acts of intimacy, holding hands in the hallways and pulling you close into his side during lunch, became a seldom occurrence. Perhaps if his hand accidentally brushed against yours when the two of you were walking side by side, he found himself slotting his into yours before you would tighten your grip on him as if it were natural – he noticed your cheeks didn’t heat up like they used to either. Rarely, did he come find you after class – opting to surprise you (gently of course) if he saw you lounging around campus. If you wanted to spend lunch with just Clara and Hansol, Seungcheol left you alone, eating lunch with Jihoon instead. Even the rumors and whispers about the two of you have quieted. All of this wasn’t a bad thing, per se. In fact, Seungcheol felt more at ease with how natural being with you.
How easy it was being with you made Seungcheol question the reality he knew, however. Was this love he was seeking all along? Or was this just the two of you being something a little closer friends? The rom-coms and melodramas he watched were always filled with big gestures that left both parties’ hearts fluttering. In What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, Park Seojun was always back hugging or kissing Park Minyoung at the most random times. In Love Alarm, Hye Yeong always did cute boyfriend things for JoJo, like hanging up her curtains or teaching her how to put on ties. The things you and Seungcheol did were nothing close to being that cute since the date. You studied together in the library whenever the two of you had free time, though frankly, Seungcheol only joined you because he knew you were a diligent student and he needed to focus more on his final senior project. Every now and then, he’d walk you to work at the cafe, but he never even stepped foot in there because insisted he not walk further than the corner of the street in case Jisoo saw the two of you. If he was lucky, you’d invite him over for dinner a couple more times than usual each week – and Jihoon was always present.
It wasn’t romantic at all, yet he kind of liked it.
Kyungsoon having to ruin our lovelies and their sweet time together with third wheel Wonu, idc if you’re for plot development bitch get out
Personally, I like the pacing of the story! Considering where our leads were in the beginning, it’s clear they need a slow burn romance to take down their walls and differences then rebuild a new love between them. Having the claw machine moment was really sweet, it definitely juxtaposes everything else and ugh
I wish my phone and computer had the capacity to see what emoji you used after talking about that lesson
I’M WHEEZING - yas we don’t like Kyungsoon, but she’s important for Cheol’s … errr … character? LOL.
Thank you so much for your input on the pacing! I feel like between the main couple, they’ve been in this weird wishy-washy state for a really LONG time. I’m worried that it’s not obvious they’re growing fonder of each other, especially more so Cheol than OC because most of the story has been written from OC’s experience thus far

I think the pacing is perfect but maybe a Cheol POV drabble of sorts in between chapters might do something… oMG CHEOL POV OF THE CHERRY BLOSSOM DATE imo I think it’s pretty clear that Cheol is growing fonder, maybe it’s less noticeable with reader because we don’t get to see the little actions that reader does without giving it much thought that may actually send Cheol for a mental spin
