This is Jake in Bellevue, WA shaking me down for treats. I’m a new driver, training on a route for a driver that just retired. Apparently the recently retired driver took really good care of Jake. I’ll make sure to have treats for him while I’m still training on his street going forward

Our awesome UPS driver Tony… here in Newberry, Florida… always brings a treat for our Standard Poodle Fiona when he comes to deliver.  Fiona gets so excited when she sees the big brown truck coming up the street, knowing her friend Tony is coming.  These two have bonded so much, that Fiona will now take a treat from Tony, before she made me get the treat and save for later… Fiona never eats a treat unless she is inside house.  Well, now… Fiona takes the treat from Tony’s hand, gives him a wet kiss and then plays with the treat wanting Tony to try to get it back, before settling down to feast on it.  Our UPS driver Tony is a very special, friendly, ‘Fiona approved’ guy, and we are so lucky to have him delivering packages and friendship in our community!

The Snorfeling Piggle: a field guide.

The Snorfeling Piggle (canis moochus snuffleupagus) is a fascinating creature that roams the hills and back roads of Newberg, Oregon. Although no actual DNA testing of this animal has ever been done, scientists have theorized that the species is a common pit bull/ domestic swine hybrid. It combines the gentle face, friendly temperament and personable mannerisms of a pibble (see inset) with the persistent, probing, poking, pocket-sniffing porcine proboscis of the common pig.  This animal typically feeds upon the offerings of the UPS drivers whom it jovially greets upon their arrival at its home, whereupon it commences to swiftly seek sustenance with its sniffing, snorting, swine-like snout. Possessing a wagging tail accompanied by adorable bleps and mlems and licks, it will energetically confront the driver with slobbery kisses and, with all the force and fury of a 10 HP shop vac, proceed to meticulously inspect every pocket, crease and fold of his uniform for whatever crumbs or biscuit remnants might have been left behind from previous dog encounters. Although the Snorfeling Piggle is an absolutely benign and loving animal, the driver who is confronted unawares by one is usually quickly overpowered and left with few options but to abjectly surrender any snacks that might be hidden upon his person. It is also a highly intelligent creature who can quickly deduce the location of additional biscuits that might be stored in the cab of the UPS truck, and its strength, agility and dogged determination mean that any attempt whatsoever to prevent it from stealing said stash of snacks is silly and pointless. It is therefore the opinion of zoologists and experienced UPS drivers alike that the best course of action to take when faced by the Snorfeling Piggle is to simply dump an entire box of biscuits on the ground in order to divert its attention long enough to deliver the package and escape!
