I’ve seen Fanon Vergil turn him to this cold, unfeeling bastard. He’s angry, temperamental, feels his emotion to the fullest. Vergil fathering Nero is not out of character. He’s stoic, yes. Extremely cryptic. But when no one is watching, he’s kind, despite himself.
Fanon has not understood that beneath his cool and collected exterior, Vergil is actually just eternally caught between not thinking far enough ahead, freaking out, coming up with a half-baked plan B, and freaking out again because Plan B didn’t work - but he would rather seppuku himself than live with the shame of the world finding out that he is actually the idiot twin and has no idea what he is doing and how to even properly function half the time.
He wants to be calculating and clever. He is actually an impulsive mess.
This!!! Sure he seems unfeeling but the dude actually feels too much. He implies as much in Visions of V.
His emotions are overwhelming and painful, that’s why he tries to cut them off and throw them away. Were he not so afraid to feel and to be seen as weak he’d probably be more similar to Nero. Both feel incredibly strongly, but where Nero had made his emotions his strength Vergil has instead thought of them as weakness.
And about fathering Nero- I’m not even gonna argue whether or not he cares about Nero (though he absolutely does.) Even if he was as cold as people make him out to be, you can’t forget that his cold persona came to be because he grew up absolutely alone. V said himself that Vergil wanted nothing more than to be protected and loved, but instead had to settle for survival. He wouldn’t want to put his own kid through that.
